We tried to seek out something different and with some local flavor. Something different from all the chain restaurants that had flooded our neighborhood. But this place wasn't any better and same type of menu that can make finding Waldo a breeze. They had too many items on the menu. I think they should slim the menu down a little and focus on what they are good at. The buffalo wings were below average. And I can't remember what else I ordered. Some food menu items were overpriced for a family night out. The good was they had my favorite beer Kentucky Bourbon Barrel on tap but overpriced served in a 10oz glass. I have been going to The Main Event in Farmingdale for a long time and decided to try the Plainview location. WHAT A MISTAKE. The menu is very small and although the food was good, the manager who is named PETER is a real jerk and does not understand what customer service is. I could not believe my eyes when we got our bill and an extra charge was there for extra salsa we had asked for. Peter was the one who put it on the bill. REALLY, AN EXTRA CHARGE FOR SOME SALSA. My husband and I came here to celebrate our 1st Anniversary. Needless to say we were very pleased. My husband had been here several times. I had not. We started off with The Masters Grilled Shrimp. It was wonderful. Four large, plump juicy shrimp over garlic bread. The bread was thin which was great because we did not get full off of it. Next we ordered the Fish and Chips. This is something I had not had in over ten years and that was what I was wanting. My husband and I split it. Three huge pieces of battered fish with tartar sauce and lemon. I meant to ask for malt vinegar but I forgot. It was wonderful. My hubby wanted dessert so we got The Main Event's Classic Dessert which consisted of a warm walnut fudge brownie with sauce and a generous portion of vanilla ice cream. We usually split the dinners because they are enough for two people. Everything was wonderful. We went on Friday around 4:00P.M. The ambiance was pleasant. Our server, Gina was very attentive and nice. She did an excellent job. A male server with dyed hair took our dessert order. He was also pleasant but I did not get his name. My husband and I went early on a Saturday night. We were seated right away but sat for 20 minutes with no service. My husband got up to find someone. Another several minutes goes by and a waitress came over explaining how the hostess never told her that she had customers in her station. I waitresses for many years and it was always MY responsibility to watch my station.The music was loud so I asked for it to be turned down. She took our order, said she'd tell the manager, and it was turned down. She came Hi my with our drinks a few minutes later and as she approached our table the music proceeded to turn up louder than it was!!!!! She said the manager did it. I enjoy coming here for sporting events with some friends. They get a very good bar crowd, especially when the nfl games are on. Everyone is pretty friendly too, and not obnoxious like some bars you goto. The food they serve is pretty good too. The environment is fairly loud, but tolerable for sure. Once upon a time, a gal named Christina spent a day in the city, walking from Penn Station to the Guggenheim, spiraling up and down the exhibits, and then walked back to Penn. The gal was slightly idiotic for doing so in "comfy" boots so said gal wanted to go out to a bar where she could wear sneakers. Enter The Main Event. The clientele is of all ages and sizes and fashions. I've gone there in sneakers and I've gone there in boots and I've drank the night away with my gal pals and I've met some boy pals there too. The kind that are make-out-able. The bartenders are very friendly and mostly attentive but don't do buy backs, at least not ever with me. I don't know if they're allowed to. The managers are also very helpful, always offering to bring over extra bar stools if possible. The food is good bar food. The songs are good bar songs. And flat screens show every sporting event going on at the time, even curling. New York Sport fans also get to bask in the glow of red flashing lights and the brain-racking noise of sirens whenever a NY team scores any kind of goal. I've been to the main event a bunch of times when I was younger and it was still called "Sluggos." I remember the small arcade in the back corner, the big TVs, and the good food. Going back now and I gotta say... Eh. The food was blah. The nachos had all soggy chips, the potato skins were missing something. I got a burger in a hero roll. It was two-quarter-pound patties with barbecue sauce, bacon, cheese, the works. Problem with the extra bread was the bread was the worst part! The burger patties were mostly dry and tasted like they came out of a sterno. The best part of it was the bacon, and it's really hard to mess up bacon without completely leaving the room. The desserts, however, were better. I tasted the oreo pie, yummy, the ice cream cake, also good, and the apple pie, not so good. With the amount of options nearby for good american food, I don't think I need to go back to The Main Event any time soon. read more

This is definitely a chill Sports bar. There are 3 things I like at a Sports bar.. good food, abundance of TVs, and some good libations. This place delivers on everything. They have flat screen TVs in almost every angle, so you never have a bad view of a game. They have a nice variety of alcoholic beverages which is good for those experimental types. The food is of good quality and they have an amazing sampler platter. The waitresses tend to dress in football jerseys during game days which adds a fun touch (I love a women in uniform). I've been here a few times and no real complaints All the times I went it wasn't too crowded although I am sure that's not always the case. The thing about the Main Event is that every time I decide to go eat there, it's the allure of watching a game on twenty flat screen TVs and not the food that draws me in. This is a nice, clean sports bar with tons of TVs providing every seat a great view of whatever game, match, tourney that's on. The food is just ok, and when you factor in the price it gets even more bleak. In the past I've tried their nachos, potato skins, and buffalo wings with none being particularly great. For entrees I've ordered burgers which were returned to me undercooked. Since the burgers have been mediocre I've yet to pony up the extra dough and try any of their steak products. Your probably asking, like I'm doing to myself, why do you keep going there and trying their food if it's leaving you unhappy? Because once and a while when there's a good Monday night football game on, it's march madness or the NBA playoffs are gearing up, my buddies and I will go enjoy the atmosphere and settle on food that doesn't really satisfy. Be careful with the outdoor seating. The waiters and waitress are half wearing their masks. The tables on the concrete are not socially distanced. The people working there put a group of 10 table directly next to us- not 6 feet apart. I went to other local restaurant who was definitely following safe protocols. All of the staff at another restaurant were properly wearing masks and gloves. Here they were not. I told the waitress (who did not seem to care) that people were walking back and forth with no mask on. It is very misleading since the sign outside says that masks must be worn. Terrible cafeteria style food and over priced to boot. I suspect the majority of the food is frozen. Don't go here thinking your going to get a decent meal. Beer selection was odd and limited. Another Sports Bar haunt of mine from time to time to watch a hockey game and it can fit the bill if the location serves when meeting someone there, but otherwise, they are not my first choice. Mainly because of the food. It's average at best. And when I think sports bar, I'm thinking "Blow my diet eat everything fried for a few hours" kinda of place. So when I'm using a cheat day, I wanna make those calories worth it in flavor and so far, Main Event has been disappointing. Nachos were a discombobulated flavorless mess. Salads are nothing special and the main courses, well if you saw this menu, the number of choices would make your head spin. But it's almost TOO much in choice and delivery is just "Blah". On the plus side, i will say they have a pretty extensive bar with many types of liquor on hand and THAT is impressive. While the usual place will have two tequilas, usually the standard crap Jose Cuervo and the baseline Patron, Main Event actually has a plethora of choices! Cabo! Partida! And that makes this girl very happy. Plus they have tons of TV's so you can basically sit anywhere and be able to watch your game. Pluses and minuses...just like life. Went on a Sunday at 2:30pm to watch NFL. Had never been there & I never expected there to be so many TV's! Every single NFL game was on & there were even some games on multiple TV's. For any type of sporting event this is def. the place to go! Most Sports Bars don't have a great food menu EXCLUDING this place! The food here is amazing! I started with 1/2 dozen raw oysters on half shell & they were very fresh!!! Then I had the peppercorn steak which is delicious. Coming to the main event under company expenses is nothing to complain about. I didn't really know what to expect from this place, but seeing all the flat screen TVs kept me entertained from the minute I walked in. Going out on your first company lunch outing may cause a lot of anxiety, but this place is lively even if there aren't that many people at this spot. The food was great! my co-workers had some steak, burgers and salads and all of them loved it. I had a panini, and I would say it was ok, although it did live up to its menu descriptions for being very crispy. I was originally going to give this place a 3 for giving me the afternoon runs at work, but after being reminded about their special sweet potato fries and free refills, and not to mention the abundant spaces for parking, I have to bump it up a little to a 4. so there you have it... till the next visit, which might be during happy hour, we shall see how well it can remain a 4. read more

The hostess had a terrible attitude from the beginning - should of been a red flag to automatically leave. They blamed having a party on the other side and therefore the "kitchen being backed up." How would everything be cold if the kitchen was backed up? More like the food was just sitting there? I will say, the waitress, Dani, was absolutely wonderful and did everything she could to accommodate the situation. Big kudos to her. Very nice place. Bar was not too crowded, noise level was what you'd expect. Prices were average, which was good. Drank and ate at normal levels, normal pricing. Then I ran into an issue. I'm in for work and was given an American Express Business Gift Card for my per diem. It's a AMEX just like any other but they would not take it because - and I quote - "it messes up our system". I've never heard that at all. It's like using a debit card, which they did take after refusing my AMEX GC. Anyway, still a good place. 4 stars if they fix the GC issue. read more
