Really a special place, in a historic building from the 1800s. The host was extremely welcoming and friendly throughout. And t the food was really excellent. The chef is very creative and original. We shared a few appetizers, the tuna crudo was very different and very delicious but they're homemade pasta was quite inventive and really outstanding. Our dinner entrees were excellent we had the pork and the halibut entree but truthfully the dessert that we finished with was out of this world quite excellent. The name of that dessert was simply a strawberry and rhubarb dessert and the name didn't do it justice because it was very different very special very delicious we probably could have eaten that for the entire night because it was so good.. unexpected. We've come to The Madrona so many times, and time and time again, the experience has been nothing short of wonderful. Chef Phi is easily one of our favorites in all of Sonoma. The man can truly cook. We've tried a variety of his dishes, and each one shows such intention, from the flavor profiles to the textures; and everything is always beautifully presented. It never misses. His congee is absolutely to die for, and those thinly sliced pork pieces with crisped skin and tender, juicy meat are a standout every single time. Check out that pic of burger he made for us for burger week! You can really taste the quality, especially knowing he uses fresh vegetables straight from the garden on the property. That is farm-to-table at its finest. On one of our visits, we stayed in a suite above the restaurant, which made the whole experience even more special. It was so nice to head upstairs after dinner and fully relax in our own space. Our room was stocked with thoughtful treats upon arrival, and we had access to the most beautiful private gym. The pool area is stunning, and we loved riding the bikes they provide to explore the property. I would absolutely stay here again. Everywhere you go, there's curated art to enjoy, which adds such a unique and elevated touch. They also host special events throughout the year. We especially love their summer movie nights, lounging on the lawn with fresh popcorn, wine, and Red Vines is such a vibe. All in all, our experience started with the restaurant and kept us coming back for more. It's made even more special by the team, who consistently make us feel so welcomed every time we visit. My husband and I had the best Valentine's Day brunch here! Whoever is managing this place is doing a great job. The service was friendly and attentive at every turn--from the front desk person to the hostess to our waiter, all were excellent. The hotel is beautiful, well kept, and tastefully decorated. We ate on the terrace and they had heaters to keep warm. It's pet friendly too! We ordered the waffle to share, the lavash, the grilled cheese and cocktails. All were very high quality and delicious. Prices are a bit on the high side, but that's what I expect from a hotel restaurant, especially in Healdsburg. We will be back! read more

Definitely worth a visit to this 1881 historic building in the middle of wine county. When arriving, you drive up and become in awe of the estate where the dining takes place. There are multiple units on the property where you can stay. Dinner service starts at 5pm (and recently lunch/brunch is offered). Cocktails offered are filled with unique flavors, appetizers were perfect lite bites, and dinner was good quality but not necessarily all were Michelin star quality. Can't wait to visit again and try rest of the menu. Burgers were a very popular item that was being brought out. Skipped dessert since we got appetizers. Elegant Escape Let Down by Comfort and Cuisine We stayed for two nights and three days at The Madrone. It's a beautiful estate with an excellent porch, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee. The hotel staff were exceptionally attentive and kind, and the valet, Michael, was an absolute gem. The rooms were charming and picturesque. Another highlight is the location, two wineries are within easy walking distance, making The Madrone not only convenient with its own in-house bar and restaurant but also a premium choice for wine lovers looking to enjoy tastings without the need to drive. Unfortunately, the biggest drawback was the rock-hard beds. I quite literally left with back pain. Thankfully, Healdsburg has plenty of spas to help remedy that. The Madrone Bar was lovely, with talented bartenders who clearly take pride in their craft. The restaurant, however, was hit or miss. While it offered a beautifully curated wine list sure to please any sommelier, the food itself was inconsistent. The duck dish and halibut crudo were excellent, but the remaining courses fell flat, particularly the "caviar," which turned out to be little more than roe. Our dining experience was quiet and calm, likely due to the off-season of November, but our waitress seemed on edge and somewhat inattentive, which detracted from what could have been a more polished service experience. My partner, a wagyu enthusiast who has enjoyed authentic wagyu in Japan, found their version over-salted and charred, more reminiscent of a standard steak. For a $400 meal, the experience didn't live up to expectations. Overall, while The Madrone is undeniably elegant and the service staff generally warm, the comfort and dining experience left much to be desired. The convenient access to nearby wineries adds undeniable appeal, but the overall stay was somewhat a disappointing experience for what was meant to be a special birthday getaway. read more

We loved this wonderful hotel! We were celebrating our anniversary and there was a lovely handwritten note left for us in the room. We had a bungalow room, and it was wonderful! A small private patio off to the side, a sitting room, bedroom with another sitting area with a working fireplace. So cozy and romantic. All the decor was lovely, unique and high-end. The bathroom was large and it had heated floors! Also a jacuzzi tub, and a shower with good pressure. Breakfast was included, sort of an expanded continental breakfast with a different hot dish included each day, along with coffee, juices, yogurt and small breakfast pastries. Everyone was so pleasant too. We were greeted with a glass of champagne from the nearby Orsi vineyards. (You can have a 2 for 1 tasting as a hotel guest.) Beautiful property and grounds. The house had a charming character. The hotel staff declined our request to see a sample room as we were leaving the property. This was a missed opportunity by the staff as we were considering it for a small corporate team's multi-day meeting. We should have known better given the lack of attention to details during the meal. Despite noting in the reservations that we were celebrating a birthday and mentioned to the restaurant host and waitstaff, there were no special efforts to recognize the celebration. On July 4 2025 I had one of the best meals I've ever had. This was my first time at the Madrona, and the entrance gate charmed me from the get go. We wound up the driveway and the gracious main building came into view. I felt like I was invited to a fancy party at someone's summer mansion. I immediately made a not to check hotel prices--located just a few miles outside of Healdsburg proper, it's the perfect mix of "close" and "away." Onto our meal. Cocktails/mocktails: we ordered a variety, and all were sublime. You really can't go wrong. I can't even recommend one over another. We started with warm rolls--subbing butter for the chicken schmaltz--and the almost crispy tops of the rolls contrasted with the soft, piping hot middles. A smattering of flakey salt made each bite perfect. The tempura is almost a tempura pancake--the individual vegetable are coated and fried and then sort of melded into a crispy disc. How can each piece be distinctly flavorful but also complementary?! My rock cod looked a bit watery. Then I tasted the broth, and it would have stood on its own as a brothy soup. Is that a hint of coconut? The dish was completed with both peas and pea sprouts, and they provided a crisp counterpoint to the tender fish. Truly a delight. We were too full dessert...or were we? Sharing a seared peaches-and-cream dessert was just the thing. Im a sucker for a warm-and/cold dessert, and this one was delicious. A few bites and then we really were done. Exiting the building, there was a popping sound, and we watched the fireworks from Healdsburg from the porch for a bit. Could not have been a nice evening. PS shoutout to the outstanding staff, everyone was friendly and professional. Plates and silverware were changed between course in a quiet way. Skylar was extraordinarily nice and was so informative when we had questions about food. I recently had a birthday dinner here and was disappointed. First off our server was incredible. She went above and beyond. The food was just ok. The burger seems to be the best option on the menu! They never switch it up , kind of disappointing . The birthday girl got a glass of champagne but none was offered to the rest of the party. Seriously , do you think she wants to celebrate by herself? How much could a glass of bubbly cost? They just don't go out of their way if you're celebrating a special occasion. Our server actually bought the birthday girl a dessert! Very kind of her. The restaurant is located in beautiful Sonoma county in an old Victorian house, which is supposed to be haunted, unfortunately we didn't see any ghosts. The decor and layout of the grounds and mansion are simply breathtaking. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The menu is very eclectic, and very creative, the portions are on the smaller side, but expected due to the type of cuisine. The wine list and cocktail menu are also very vast. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Our server was very friendly, but I did feel a little pressure as she was recommending the most expensive items on the menu. I also thought it was interesting and I saw this in other places in Sonoma County that the restroom was unisex. The Madrona has the most beautiful grounds I have ever seen. The building along with the interior design is equally beautiful. In fact, as I walked around the Manor I was considering what a wonderful place to host a party or special event. So, why 1 star? Buckle up kids! The evening started with cocktails and an appetizer in the bar. The cocktails were average, nothing special. The warm bread, some may consider crispy but it was more stale / over heated. No big deal. We had dinner reservations and surely dinner would be amazing! We were seated on time. Got our water and menus and then? Crickets. 30 MINUTES later we asked someone to get our server. Still, that's certainly not deserving of 1 star. Right? Well let me tell you! Let's just stick with what I ordered and ate. First up. Warm bread with edamame spread. Bread was okay. The spread was very salty which covered the blandness. On to the salad. The Madrona salad. Snore! The most boring salad I have ever had. The sherri vinaigrette seemed watered down, dull and was the only hope of this small salad having any flavor. The main entree, the Chicken Paillard. The herb salad was more like an over sized garnish not part of the meal. The chicken. The chicken, although a filet, was paper thin. It was dry and rubbery. The way it presented tells me it was over cooked in the first place, left under a heat lamp too long or the chicken was cooked way before then breaded. Again, the only chance at having any flavor was the "spicy" brown butter. But alas, there was only just enough to make a couple of bites worth taking. Followed by a gulp of water to force it down. Everyone in my party noticed the presentation and were like "Uh...WTF is that?" I have head better chicken at my grandmother's nursing home to be honest. But! There's always dessert! Right!? I ordered the cheesecake mousse. It came with two short bread biscuits that had been sitting too long inside the dish. there were soggy. The mousse itself tasted nothing like cheesecake and was really sour. Awful. Couldn't finish it. Anyway, we finished our watered down decaf, paid our bill and left. SO! The next morning. After finishing dinner around 9pm the night before. I get up to to go to work. Huh. That's weird. Why does my stomach feel...off? Oh well, off to work I go. By 0700 the cramps kicked in. Uh oh. At 0800, it was GO TIME! Right into the bathroom! Liquid explosion. From both ends. By 0900 I had to go home sick. The rest of the day and into the night it was diarrhea and vomiting along with cramping. Had to go to the hospital today. Labs including blood, urine and stool. I have a bacterial infection. My kidneys are strained, I have elevated Ketones and I am waiting to hear which bacteria it is. Was it the chicken? The "sour" mousse? Not sure but I do know with certainty that whatever I got it was from eating there. I made an attempt to call Madrona and suppose to hear back from their food and beverage coordinator. Nothing. I wasn't looking for anything. Just wanted to let them know what happened so they could look into it. So, in the absence of them taking responsibility I am here to tell you, the folks looking for fine dining, to be cautious if you go here. I won't be returning. read more

Admittedly this is a very busy night at any restaurant but the service levels we experienced were better suited to a diner than a restaurant that aspires to a Michelin star. We were seated and then ignored for 25 minutes until the hostess walked past and asked if our server had checked in with us. After promising attention, a server arrived and brusquely asked what we would like to have. Delivery of our order was irregular and ill-timed. It felt throughout the meal that we were a burden to the waitstaff (which might have been accurate given how busy any restaurant is on 14 Feb). Whatever the reason, it wasn't the experience we expected. To be fair to the kitchen the food was fine. The scallops appetizer was excellent and the duck breast entree nicely balanced. My wife thought the chicken paillard was a miss. However the service was so consistently inconsistent that it was hard to look past it. read more

This was an amazing venue for a wedding, everything was so well put together and the venue really stood out. The staff from The Madrona was incredible for the entire party. Mabel really took care of the guests and made sure the dinner went smoothly as well. The bartender inside was great and kept the bar lively while people were there, and the whole staff was very engaged with the needs of the guests. Instead of one larger dining room, there are a series of smaller rooms which provide more intimacy but the place still has a nice energy. The new Madrona restaurant is perfection! We had a beautiful celebratory 17th anniversary dinner there last night. They honored the occasion with complimentary sparkling wine and a very sweet card for us! That was the sweetest gesture, and was greatly appreciated. We enjoyed the following dishes: -The caviar onion dip & chips -the little gem salad -the chicken paillard & - the snake river farms New York strip. We started with two fantastic cocktails "the dirty word "& "the madrona cup." The wine list is extensive & we had a wonderful Rafanelli cab although to be honest, in comparison to nearby restaurants with many similar wine lists (with some of the same bottles listed) the prices of many seemed inflated here. We will most likely bring a bottle next time and pay the $40 corkage. The atmosphere is fun and hip now with extensive renovations. The setting is very beautiful and romantic. The 'maitre d' was a super nice and personable gentleman, we enjoyed meeting him and he made up for our server (who was a nice young lady but was not personable and seemed in a rush). Beautiful place to get away! The staff was extremely helpful and planned all our activities from biking, wine tasting, dining and spa treatments.
