I asked for an amenity for the birthday celebration and we were promised something waiting. I had to ask again and we ended up with two pieces of chocolate. I've paid a lot less for hotels that have included way better birthday amenities. 3. The room is nice but nothing exceptional. 4. Smores hour is cute but the smores are definitely stale. 5. I dropped something behind the tub and it was clear things had not been cleaned back there. Everything else was very clean, and that is important to me. 6. The restaurant is overrated. Go to other spots for the vibe and food. The pros: 1. I absolutely love the connections that this hotel has to wineries and wine tasting. We would come back just for this as staying at farmhouse gets you exceptional service at the partner wineries. This is what makes it special! 2. The wine happy hour hosts were also great. The most amazing example is that we had breakfast around 9 am last Saturday June 27 in the outdoor area with folding fabric "roof". We finished our breakfast and left for the day. When we returned to the hotel at 4 pm, our dishes with bits of food and used coffee cups were still sitting on the table as we had left them 7 hours earlier! At $900/nt, you might have thought the hotel staff could circulate and clear tables. But you would be wrong. Unfortunately it was common throughout the hotel to see dirty used glasses and plates lying around. After checking out, I received a survey request from the hotel "Manager" asking for feedback. I mentioned the plethora of dirty plates/glasses during our 3 night stay but no one has ever responded. Also, the staff in the spa were having extended conversations on their phone's loudspeaker which was a bit jarring. It's a pretty hotel but it needs to figure out the basics of keeping it clean and sanitary.

Just paid another visit to the Olea Hotel for my husband's birthday. Still love this place but it's…read morestarting to lose some of the charm it once had. But first, the good: their accommodations remain fabulous. We stayed in the Upper Poolside Cottage (Room 10) and it's just wonderful. The Comphy sheets are just heaven. Their bath towels are also plush and luxurious. Two thumbs up for in-room linens! Heated floors in the bathroom and 2-sided fireplace provide nice warmth and comfort. Complimentary snacks and fizzy water in the mini fridge are a nice bonus, too. The poolside cottages are the cat's meow, and just a short hop to the pool and hot tub. But there are several things that I noted during our last visit that made me feel like maybe this may have been our last visit to the Olea. First, there was a goodly amount of trash strewn about the property. At the hot tub, there was a wine bottle cap on the bench (I know, wine country, to be expected, right?), but what truly grossed me out was the wad of used athletic wrap right next to the hot tub. Blech! As I grabbed both of these items and took them to the trash (all of five or six steps from where they had been scattered), I noticed even more bits of trash in the corner area near the planters. Like more trash than would be expected by just one party being messy. (Also, the planter area was weedy and just seemed neglected.) I dismissed it as just not getting some needed attention, until I returned to our cottage and noticed several more pieces of trash right by our front door that I had missed earlier. And apparently so did housekeeping and management. Plus broken tree limbs atop the roof of the main building. And a huge rip in one of the pool lounge chair pads. And a very large hole (~3") in a pool towel. Just signs of general neglect and subpar for this place, especially at their price point. Second and perhaps even more disappointing is how much the included breakfast service has changed. It's gone from a 2-course, made-in-house gourmet affair to a continental style DYI breakfast, apparently now even on the weekends. The only thing made to order is the avocado toast (for obvious reasons). For those guests who hadn't enjoyed the previous offerings, perhaps it doesn't seem too bad. Nice spread. But I sorely miss the delectable morning meals and the awesome homemade chai along with the service for breakfast. I'd give this an updated 3.5 stars but will round up to 4 because I still really want to love this place. Also, Star provided friendly and welcoming service at the front desk, which was appreciated.

Every interaction felt genuine. Everyone was approachable, conversational, and incredibly kind, and by the end of our three days we felt like we knew the staff personally. The spa was top-notch. When you book a massage, you also get a few hours to enjoy the spa amenities, which is a huge perk. This includes the outdoor pool and hot tub, indoor warm pool, relaxation room, steam room, showers, and vanity area. The vanity area is stocked with anything you could need. Brushes, toothbrushes, ear swabs, lotion, and showers, have great shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The outdoor pool area is fairly new and the addition of the outdoor bar was a great touch. The therapists are always friendly, professional, and do an excellent job. The relaxation room includes light snacks, flavored water, and tea, which makes the experience feel even more relaxing and luxurious. Overall, we've consistently had stellar experiences. My one complaint is that the administrative staff can be very rigid and inflexible. We've experienced this twice over the years: 1. I woke up extremely sick with an upper respiratory infection and laryngitis and could barely speak. I called as soon as they opened and was told I would still be charged the full cost of the treatment if I didn't come in. Later they offer to cancel for a $50 fee, I was disappointed that they were not able to waive the fee given how sick I was. 2. During one visit, there was significant construction noise while they were building the pool area. It's all I could hear during my massage that was probably the worst experience I've had there. They didn't give me a heads up to the construction, I almost didn't go back after. One pro tip: don't book the 4 p.m. treatment slot. The spa closes at 5, and amenities start shutting down right at closing, even if you're just finishing your massage. Since they typically bring you to the relaxation room afterward, you won't get the full post-treatment experience with a later appointment. They shut off the fireplace, and steam room, and give you a time limit to exit. It all makes sense, because they have to close at some point, but it's helpful to know if you're looking for that post massage experience.

My mom specifically wanted the Pinot Noir listed on the menu, so it was disappointing to find out that it wasn't available. We ended up ordering two glasses of Sauvignon Blanc. The menu clearly lists it at $14 per glass, but we were charged $18 per glass ($36 total). I'm not sure if the menu was outdated or if there was an additional charge that wasn't explained, but the discrepancy was confusing. After having our drinks, we went to sit in a couple of lounge chairs that did not have reserved signs on them. Leo, the bartender, came over and told us that the chairs were reserved because they were in front of a cabana. We were happy to move, but it was frustrating to be told this after the fact when there was nothing indicating that the chairs were reserved. The pool area was also fairly quiet, so the interaction left us feeling unnecessarily unwelcome. None of these things individually would have been a huge deal, but together they made the experience feel less polished and relaxing than we expected from a spa at this price point. The property itself is lovely, but for over $400 for two massages, I expected more attention to detail, accurate menu pricing, and a more welcoming experience. BEWARE: No Parking…read more Healdsburg Inn on the Plaza has absolutely no "overnight" parking. I repeat: NO PARKING. Visitors are left to fend for themselves, hoping they can find overnight parking (which is almost nonexistent). How did we solve the problem? We went to a hotel down the street who graciously offered us valet parking even though we were NOT staying at their hotel. The response from the Inn is NOT true. The lot behind the Inn does not permit overnight parking. We checked into it. Parking in front of the Inn is limited to 2 hours. However, that does not apply for vehicles with handicap placards. Incidentally, other hotels nearby are aware of this problem.
