We have used the Wayne facility since it opened, always very happy with day care and boarding. Our big guy loved it and was going once a week for several years. In this place they mistreat pets. Horrible Experience, I left my english bulldog for 6 days, when I picked him up my puppy smelled bad, but the most disappointing and worrying thing is that my puppy had wounds on his testicles, the entire area was irritated, he had allergy rashes on his legs, his nose was dry, we had to take him to the vet for treatment, I will never bring my puppy to Madison Resort Wayne again, I complained to the manager who apologized but there is no justification for the mistreatment my puppy was a victim of, I do not recommend this place. I paid $ 468.00 for them to take care of my puppy, not for them to mistreat him in that way. Do not bring your puppies to this place. read more

I've taken Hiro back a few times and the groomer that was there before was gone. Each time I told the groomer not to shave down his hocks and tail. Each time they did anyway. I really wanted to continue taking him here bc they do a wonderful job with deshedding him, but I can't keep giving the same instructions and be ignored. read more

Left my fur baby here for 4 days and he came back such a well behaved pup. The structure definitely help with my unsocialized pup. I'll be bringing him for daycare periodically. I'm very happy with how reliable the team is! Natalia also does a great job with grooming. He always comes back smelling yummy! The owner Shawn is very personable and kind! I brought my dog there for the first time, I was disappointed with the results. My dog"s hair length was fairly fluffy and I had asked if the groomer was familiar with modern teddy bear style cuts and could groom to certain requests. I was told yes. I was given an additional charge for de-matting; however, my dog was basically just shaved short in the traditional "small dog "cookie cutter" style. read more

I have to say I'm really disappointed with the Madison. I was very happy to find a place that was clean and allowed me to watch my pup play while he was at doggy daycare. Here are a couple of red flags that brought me to write this review. On Monday I notified the employee that my mother in law was picking him up. I left his bag with toys, dinner and treats. I simply told the employee please give this bag to her when she picks up my pup. There was no directive to feed him. I received a message from my mother in law saying that his food and whole bag of treats were not in his bag. She called the Madison and they said they fed him lunch and he ate all of his treats. #1 Why are they going through his bag. #2 Why would you give him lunch at 12:30 and feed him ALL of his treats! Most dogs do not eat 3 meals a day. I get there's certain circumstances, but I never told them to feed him. He's a 10 Month old Mini-Aussiedoodle. He was going to the Madison for about 3 months. I found that he wasn't as excited to go as he was to his first doggy daycare. I began watching a little more closely. There were many times I couldn't find him with the pack and wondered where he could be. On Tuesday Around 8:30AM - a half hour after I dropped him off - I decided to watch a little more closely. He wasn't with the pack. I looked to right where the kennels are and I saw his head popping up and down. Thought that maybe he needed a break and that's why he was in there. ( not sure why because there were only 4-5 pups in it at that time anyway) Then it turned into 45 mins he was in there. I called immediately and told them I want him with the pack - he's there to learn to socialize not be kept in a kennel. I was told the staff wasn't able to be with the pack because they were cleaning, he has a lot of energy and needs to be watched. Isn't that what I pay for - shouldn't they always be supervised? The owner called me directly and heard my concerns, but did not offer a solution to the situation. Again, I am really disappointed and was really hopeful to find a state of the art doggy daycare. He will not be returning. read more

Our 7 month old Hound Willie has been going to daycare at the Madison 1-2 times per week for the past few months and we could not be happier. He is very happy there and comes home exhausted (which makes for relaxing nights for my husband & me!). Does he sometimes come home smelling like dog? Yes but it's to be expected and goes away within a few hours. The staff has been great, especially Sean who went above and beyond for us when Willie gave the groomer a hard time getting his nails cut (ps Willie says sorry for breaking the grooming table!!). This place deserves 10 stars... family owned and operated... Always greeted with a warm hello and they are always happy to see my dog Mia .. My dog comes home and she is exhausted for about 2 days.. The place is clean and never an odor. They have 3 locations... Waldwick.. Wayne and now Hawthorne.. Grooming and boarding on location.. Update: we spoke to the owner of The Madison in Waldwick and he refunded us our money and was very apologetic. He completely assured us that these errors would never happen again in Wayne and he would make sure of it. We were very pleased with his response to what happened, but will not be using their facilities again.* My 11 month old Chihuahua mix Mary Jayne was dropped off on Wednesday for a two night stay. I packed her food in sandwich bags that were measured out for each meal, yet she wasn't fed the proper amount. During her stay, she was fed only twice!! She should have been fed 4-5 meals during a three day period of Wednesday afternoon to Friday night. We told the owners she was to be fed twice a day and wrote it on the instructions they provided us to fill out. When I unpacked her belongings, there were three bags of food that were never given to her!! I did some further inspections of Mary Jayne after bringing her home and her paws were completely blistered and raw. Mary Jayne spends about once a week at another doggy daycare and this has never happened to her before. She comes home with little scrapes, red spots and little bites from playing with other dogs and that is completely expected from rough play. But along with those marks, all four of her paws are raw and blistered. Mary Jayne also does not have sensitive paws. We run together almost every evening, she frequents a dog park and a daycare and she is very used to rough surfaces. The worst part is that when we picked her up, no one made mention of the condition her paws were in. My dog was put in their care for three days where she wasn't properly fed and came home with blisters and raw paws. I have no doubt that the owners are well intentioned in running this business, but they certainly need to re evaluate the care they are providing to these dogs. I feel completely betrayed by them. The owners offered a free future stay to us, but why on earth would we bring our dog back here? read more

I have been bringing my dog to The Madison since May 2015. I was reluctant at first to leave my dog anywhere, as I've heard some horror stores about these types of places. But I was really impressed with the care and quality of this place. First of all - I shopped around at a few other places before deciding on The Madison, I DO NOT trust Yelp reviews as some of my favorite restaurants and other places that I've been too have a few terrible reviews or a place I know to have lousy food has great reviews. So back to the other places I looked at...(I won't name them since I'm not here to bash any other businesses) but most of them smelled kinda funky - like old pee. That was an instant flag for me and I also got a fake impression from the other staff I met at these places. The owners at The Madison (who are ALWAYS there), Sean and Ryan, are really friendly but genuinely seem to have a great love and appreciation for the dogs and the clients. My dog has A LOT of energy and bringing her to The Madison 4 days a week has done wonders for her behavior. I was walking my dog 2 (sometimes 3) times per day and it just wasn't enough exercise and she had a lot of anxiety as a puppy. I really think the time spent playing and being around other dogs has improved her overall behavior. It's also really convenient that I can get her groomed at the same time (I forget the groomer's name but she is also really nice). I haven't had to board my dog yet, but I was shown the kennels when taking a tour of the place and they are not at all what I expected. I pictured stacked metal crates like they do in animal hospitals, but the "rooms" here are more like little stalls with windows at the top but privacy walls in between - if that makes sense? I recommend this place all the time to anyone looking for a place to let their dog run around and play or board overnight when going away. But I always tell them to just go there and check it out - it's worth the trip! read more

This place is wonderful! We bring our dog to the Wayne location to run his energy out while we're at work. The staff is great, and they really know our dog and treat him amazing. There are cameras to watch the dogs during the day, so it is really nice to see him when I have a minute to check on my phone. There are always people in the room with them, and our dog absolutely cannot wait to get there. I would definitely recommend this place, they do an amazing job. read more

I went on a tour and it just smelled like pee and poop. There was no supervision on the dogs, they are short staffed it looked like. Would not take my dog here after what I witnessed! When I talked to the managers I think the names were Jason and Ryan were very rude and they both had very poor attitudes. When I tried to ask a question all I got back was an eye roll. After visiting the Madison Dog spa resort in Wayne, I would absolutely never leave my dog there and would NEVER recommend them to anyone I know who cares about their pets. When I called to schedule an appointment, Jason told me to bring my dog Basil in for a 30 minute "meet and greet" which I thought was standard. To my surprise however, upon arrival, they told me to promptly leave so my dog, who is a small rescue chihuahua with PTSD, could get acquainted to strangers and other dogs without me there for even a few minutes. They called me to come back 15 minutes later because basil was not a "good fit" for them. When I went back to get him, a woman was holding him, calmly, and told me it took her almost the full 15 minutes just to hold him, which apparently makes my poor terrified little puppy unfit for their dog spa. She told me he wasn't growling or biting any of the staff or other dogs, but he wasn't "warming up to them"... hmmm I wonder why? We take him to the dog park all the time. He is a very social pup and very good around other dogs and new people. I asked them if they could try again with me there to make him feel more comfortable and they said absolutely not. Overall, the staff was extremely rude, unprofessional and cold. I assumed an establishment specializing in hosting pets all day would know how to properly acquaint a scared puppy to a new environment and people. I regret ever bringing him there and I feel so terrible that I even left him alone with people who clearly know NOTHING about dogs. Do not make the same mistake I did. We were looking for a place for our French Bulldog to stay for 9 days while we went away on vacation. We visited the Madison in Wayne, as it was recommended by a friend. Upon the first visit, I loved the place, super clean, the staff was kind, and they seemed to have proper precautions for bulldogs (overheating etc). We took him for 2 saturdays in a row to socialize and play with the other dogs and get used to being away. The first time he came back fine, a little nervous and a little bit more separation anxiety, but he was in perfect condition. The next weekend we brought him in for 3 hours, 10:30 AM - about 1:45 PM. While we were picking him up, the owner came out and said that Louie had ripped his toenail off to the quick and that it was pretty bad. When he came out every toe was bleeding or broken. OK. This happens, my BIGGEST issue now is that he was NOT being watched. He was sitting in pain with his paw up with NO ONE noticing. They didn't see it until we came. Would he have been sitting in his blood longer if we didn't pick him up early? How can I leave my dog for NINE days at a place when he was injured with a $300 vet bill in 3 hours. I could have left him home with water. A place can be up to date and have all the amenities, but without the right staff watching, it is nothing. I am very upset that they didn't recommend to take him to the vet (we did and it was considered and emergency and is bandaged up to the top of his leg). The next day no one called to check up on him and even see how he was. I feel like I paid to have my baby hurt. I think this is a well intentioned place, but they NEED to have better care in the back with the dogs. I just don't understand how we have no answers to how this happened and he was sitting in pain without attention. I feel like he was neglected. He should have been watched and I should have had a call IMMEDIATELY. Needless to say, I will be calling to cancel his stay sadly. *** Sean is a great guy, but he isn't in the back with dogs. Been bringing our dog there at least once a week for 6 months. He is a huge fan of the Madison Dog Spa. He comes out tired and happy. When we occasionally check on him remotely via webcam we see him running and playing with all the other dogs. Its a tremendous resource for us to be able to have our dog stay for the day, and we go off fur-kid free for a few hours of exploring NYC. Never had an issue, and have no complaints.
