My father likes this little little eatery and for the past several years we often go when I am back and he goes there virtually every Sunday with other family and relations when I'm not.
It's a pretty traditional British pub menu and on Sunday they do a roast. On this occasion I went there with my father and we had the special Red Thai curry and the Lasagna. When my lasagna arrived I realised it didn't come with chips (fries) and ordered a portion. When the fries turned up after 10 minutes they were brittle like they had refried a batch of old chips. I discretely pointed this out to the waitress and as I'd almost finished the lasagna I asked her to take them off the bill.
A little later on she returned, and in a loud voice so that virtually everyone in the restaurant could heat, asked if I wanted a fresh batch of chips. I said no because I'd finished the thing I wanted to eat them with. She then said that as I didn't want a fresh batch of chips then they would stay on the bill. I mean, how ridiculous to take this stance of what amounts to a few pennies of potato? It was also a little embarrassing as now other diners were now looking over at our table at what was going on.
We paid and left - both my father and me agreed we wouldn't come back. I think that particular waitress needs some customer service training and the restaurant needs some business sense training. read more
