This "pub" used to be my local, and I'm incredibly lucky that I managed to get out after eating the "food" here at the Old Lane, this has been the only establishment where I had food poisoning twice in 3 months, also the "Locals" aren't too friendly to people who were born outside of Chippenham, the staff are also very unhelpful, preferring to serve the person who can shout the loudest or the most drunk rather than the person who is next in the queue. It is also known for certain people to have their drinks spiked in here as well, I've known at least one person who was hospitalised because of the shoddy way this "pub" was (or is) run, mainly by the (former?) manager Tanya Rosmond and her cabal of locals, who have no respect for honest custom. But then it's very cheap, so you get what you pay for, but in my honest opinion, go to the Pheasant along the A4 Bath road to the west of the town (opposite B&Q) recently refurbished, excellent food, atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff. read more

We went out for sunday lunch, the four of us, two adults and two children. Both adults had the mixed grill, one medium and one medium rare. Both the mixed grills were over cooked, we didnt eat it as it was burnt, the chicken was black on one side just like a peice of coal. We were surprised that there wasnt any salad served with the mixed grills, but the chips were nice. The grills were £6.79 each so were expensive when you consider the only good part of the meal was the chips. The children had sausage carrots and chips and fishfingers beans and chips. Again apart from the chips, it was all over cooked and we had to peel off the black outside of the sausage to get to some meat instead of coal. The toilets were smelly and the cutlery not clean. Sorry to say but it was the worst pub lunch we have ever had, I would not recommend eating here. read more

This pub (and i use that term very loosely) has the most vile food and drink i've tasted in the whole county of wiltshire (they aparently don't even clean the pumps when they change the barrels resulting in a pint with no head!), it's full of inbred chavs (including the severely mentally and emotionally retarded and very surly bar staff) the manager was the most sour faced misrable misanthrope i've ever met, a face like a duck who had just been violated by a rusty chainsaw!, the toilets were filthy and some of them broken or damaged, most of the regulars were most likely the result of siblings fornicating too much, if anyone with half a mind comes to chippenham avoid the old lane and pewsham in general altogether they are truly the fetid arsehole of the county of Wiltshire. read more

what a shame!.almost a year on from richards review and still no change! comments like "maggies Bar" and "the only good pub is an empty pub" still hold true. This is a pub "ran by the staff for the staff and their cliques" the food is unpredictable at best , the ale is,,,, well much the same. And the attitude of some of the staff is lousy at best , even though i love a drink and live under 10 mins walk away from the lanes aka "the old stains" i will now not go in there. This could be such a cracking community pub not by spending loads of money but just by getting staff that actually make you and your kids feel welcome and not an inconviniance ,ones that don't spend their time moaning about how much work they have to do , or having Attitudes with other staff or customers , how many eyes roll when you dare to ask for something differnt on the menu?. Food ... the kitchen just can't cope if there are more than a few tables on the go , over an hours wait for a portion of chips! come on M&B sort it out !! this pub is detracting from you brand ,you have some craking sizzlers out there , like the one near gosport. move the team from there to here Please read more

old lane is my local and despite other reviews - this pub is fantastic - great meals at affordable prices and they now have renewed there menu. i always go here as staff and owners very friendly and the pub has a good atmosphere. specially on a monday, bingo nite people have won upto £170 and quiz night on a thusday upto £400! Also monday - thursday themed meal such as 'mexican night' or 'burger night' or 'curry night' with good deals and a free drink. i love this pub, and also its not empty, visit it on a saturday night and its packed with good music and live music sometimes. people complaining its 'run for the staff, by the staff and cliquey' well yes, regulars go there and u see the same young, elderly and middle aged crowds there, isnt that what a small community pub is about? for the community, for the staff, regulars go there and young people cause they enjoy it and also it keeps young people off the streets, if u wanna have a laugh, good food, nice staff, mixture of all ages, come here. i live 10 mins away from pub also. also never heard of it as 'maggies bar' shame people are giving it low stars, i love this pub and if i move out of pewsham would go out of my way to return to it x read more
