Starting off Sunday with a roast dinner, I had to go with the roast beef gravy Yorkshire pudding roasted potatoes and veg. and it was excellent. The meal was all I could want in a Sunday dinner and finished with a wonderful dessert. The pub main floor is beautifully decorated with perfectly sized rooms that give you a little bit of privacy, the bay window at the front is a great spot to sit and look out the window on a beautiful day. The building is over 400 years old and just a treat to visit. The wedding itself was set up in their back room The Stables, Kes and her team knocked it out of the park the place was decorated beautifully and you couldn't ask for a better service. All the meals came out without a hitch and everybody seemed to enjoy them, the cake was set up and displayed beautifully and again the service was top notch. And then an evening spread came out, perfectly cut finger sandwiches so many different kinds all so fresh also sausage rolls, quiche, man what a meal. The Horse and Groom is a perfect location for your pre-party and your wedding, with a beautiful setup in the Stables. Oh and of course let's not forget the Inn part, the rooms are just magical upstairs in the top of a 400-year-old pub are some most beautifully decorated rooms. Our room was The Avon up three flights of stairs perched in the very top of the beautiful pub through a magical little door slips you in to a perfectly sized room very well appointed with a nice bed that boy I slept well in, not to mention the bathroom was beautiful the overall stay could not have been better. If you ever get a chance to book the Inn and have your dinner and have your wedding in the Stables this is a perfect destination, it should for sure be considered.

Again, another excellent country pub. I feel more passionate about this one in comparison to the…read moreothers I've visited. It comes across more uniformly with the professionalism of a restaurant - yet with the aesthetics of a pub; and not just any pub, but a very smart and shiny one. I was taken here on a date once and thoroughly impressed with the taster menu for the pudding. There must have been at least seven or eight individual puddings on our tray. Second time around, I was taken with friends on a Sunday (they allowed a dog - which is good if you like dogs - a bit distracting if not). The alternative to Sunday roast - was nut roast - but done with a fantastic meaty consistency and flavour. I was left wanting more. The price was reasonable, and less than I had expected to pay. Although lunch was great - I feel there is more to be had from this place if you're going for dinner. Look out for the authentic wall illustrations - these are originals and signed by the author. Of course there are vintage photgraphs of hunting and grooming scenes - but this didn't bother me so much. It's all done in a 'Ralph Lauren' stage-set sort of way - but works elegantly. I can't wait to go back and try something new. I anticipate this will be great in the summer as there's lots of parking and outdoor space.

I'm a vegan, so my expectations for finding something tasty at a UK Pub didn't seem very high. Even in the US, I find pub menus about the most vegan-unfriendly. I didn't see anything on the menu to eat, so I e-mailed them in advance to see if there were some options available. Not only did they get back to me right away, but they offered me several off-menu options for starters, dinner, and even dessert: Starters: Soup of the day (we can do a veg soup if you book) Orange & Walnut Salad with Watercress & Balsamic Dressing Sun-Blushed Tomato, Olive & Artichoke Salad Dinner: Mushroom Stuffed Vine Tomatoes with Tempura Veg & Salsa Verde Dressing Cous Cous Stuffed Peppers with Mixed Salad & New Potatoes Marinated Tofu & Noodle Stir fry with Bean Sprouts Dessert: Red Wine Poached Pear With Sorbet Fruit Salad with Fruit Coulis Glazed Pineapple with Mango & Chlli Are you kidding me? I don't get great options like this even when eating at restaurants with vegan options. I got the orange/walnut salad, cous cous stuffed peppers and glazed pineapple and everything was fantastic! Some of the best food I've ever eaten. This place can really cook. (By the way, my non-vegan colleagues loved their food as well) If you are vegan and want to go here, please e-mail them in advance, so they can provide some options and plan for your visit. Not only was the food great, but the place has a nice cozy atmosphere and the owner and staff are great. Not only was the service great, but the owner actually drove us all back to our hotel in Swindon, which isn't that close. I can't say enough about this place, because it was such a surprise. I wish they would come to Minneapolis and set up a restaurant here, because it would beat every pub in town. The next time I go to Swindon, I will be back.

I discovered Three Crowns while working as a consultant in nearby Swindon one summer. This cozy pub was the "go-to" spot whenever the team needed a break from our normal routine (hotel food or late night kebab trucks). Particularly memorable was the "Taste of the Wild"-- kangaroo, ostrich, and venison. The meat wasn't too gamy, and cream sauce was amazing! The homemade desserts are also fantastic. They even have a proper English cheese tray that they roll right up to your table. The Stilton I tried was far and away the best I've ever eaten. And cheese for dessert! Boy, the British sure know how to live! It's a lovely drive into the countryside (including some sketchy single-lane roads!) and well worth it once in a while to splurge on a great meal!

I'd had a busy day in London - it was a Friday and very very cold - so I was itching to get out and experience something rural - heartwarming and cosy. As you drive into Oaksey - everything in Winter is dark - so unless you know your way - you have to be careful not to miss any of the signs. We pulled into what was a very very small village - typically Cotswolds. Small cottages etc - think 'The Holiday' with Cameron Diaz. The pub is off the main road. Inside is a bar area, with a smart looking restaurant around the back. The crowd looks country-ish - yet smart and welcoming. We were shown straight to our table. Usually you'd have to book, but on this occasion - and it being bitterly cold - it wasn't too busy. The menu is fantastic, and our waitress (working alone) knew a lot about the food - despite appearing to come across like an A-Level student. There's an 'Award winning' burger which my friend had, and a spectacular selection of vegetarian offerings. I say this is as most British country pubs specialise in meat; the good ones will have vegetarian options that surpass the meat equivalent - not seeming like 'a second option' or a 'viable alternative'. The bill was reasonable (I guess that) I was lucky enough not to see it. In any case, most country pubs don't exceed London prices - some of them may try and match them. The exception being where there is a celebrity chef involved. As we left, everything was covered in a blanked of snow, and I felt very sleepy whilst being driven back to where we were staying. Possibly because of the Chilean Merlot I had. Overall, I would say it's a gem of pub - which in the winter - is like a haven amidst the darkness.
