Great start for our first visit - sat at the bar. Both entrees were really well prepared. Glad to have a great food option back in collinsville! Looking forward to seeing what else they can do and enjoying the patio this spring!

That's because when you pull into the shopping plaza.....you don't see it. But if you circle around to the right, you'll see it on the side of the strip mall's buildings. And trust me, this spot is definitely worth hunting down to experience a standout breakfast or lunch. We walked in a little before 1:00 yesterday and found a table for two in the back left corner of the dining room, so we had a good view of the entire room. I have to tell ya, the place was packed! Breakaway closes at 3:00 every day except Sunday (2:00), and there were breakfast and lunch menus out, plus a few daily specials. My wife went with a "William's Ham Panini" ($17) with thin sliced ham, bacon, caramelized onions, cheddar and honey mustard on a grilled panini. We both were struck at how much ham was piled onto her sandwich. She had a few choices for a side dish and put her nickel down on potato salad. I went with The JT Salad ($16). The menu says it's been their "best-selling salad 25 years and counting". It was a big portion of mixed greens served with house balsamic dressing, grape tomatoes, gorgonzola cheese, and grilled chunks of teriyaki glazed chicken breast. It was stellar, with plenty of that yummy cheese and chicken. The only sour note with our lunch was a rather steep $4.25 for a glass of iced tea that was half-filled with ice. The food was very good and a decent amount of leftovers came home with us for another day. I was unexpectedly impressed by how crowded Bistro was on a random Monday. I bet you'll be too.

My favorite purchases were the fresh cut egg linguine and the Ritz-based stuffed cod. The fresh linguine cooks in a minute and the texture just hits different in the best possible way. The cod was nice and firm and the Ritz stuffing was crazy delicious. I also liked the Chicken Francaise. You can't really compare it to restaurant quality Francaise because it's specifically made to be re-heated and eaten later. With this in mind, I though that the small chicken pieces and lemon sauce were very solid. My other purchases included clam chowder and Tuna Mac Salad with peas. The Tuna Mac was pretty good. It wouldn't be in regular rotation for me, but I'd get it once in a while. The clam chowder was my least favorite, but I respect that New England Pasta seemed to go for something different. The texture was good and it had plenty of clams and potato. But it tasted like it had a little blue cheese flavor. I can't say for sure that they used blue cheese, but the chowder definitely had something different that gave it this vibe. For me, this flavor was a bit too assertive. I don't live near New England Pasta, but if I did, I would visit once in a while. Four Stars

Actually the dining area is small, and the feeling in the room is almost like you're in the basement of a house. Aluminum gutters as crown molding is an unusual touch! The service was great. Very attentive. Food did not come out fast. Dinner was fun. Cheesesteak was good. The sandwich was a bit messy to eat but that might be expected. Custom chicken sandwich was not quite as stated on the menu. The "tempura" fried chicken was more like a frozen patty than a tempura battered piece. I had a fun dinner. Two chili dogs and fries! Have not ordered that for dinner since Lum's was down the street! My only criticism is that they were not on a New England style roll. (Buttered & grilled). My fries were cold. The tater tots are the way to go The real surprise of the night was the bottle of root beer. It tasted like the real thing and not the big brand sugar water! We finished the night with lava cake and cannoli, which were ok. The ice cream served with the cake was the winner!

We stopped by for lunch yesterday and had one of the best hamburgers in recent memory for just $8.50. It was a big thick patty on a soft roll that was pretty much perfect on all counts. The building has a long ordering counter, so be prepared to check out the menu board for all your choices. Think hot dogs, fried fish and seafood, burgers, sandwiches, wings, salads, soups, fries and rings, soft serve and shakes. Their kids' meals are a good deal - burger, dog, tenders, or grilled cheese plus fries, juice box or water, and small ice cream for $10.95. There is limited seating inside, with a few small tables and counters. During our visit we saw a ton of take-out orders, so that seems to be most of their business. One cool thing I saw was a businessman in a suit and tie grab a stool and eat his lunch at a window counter seat. Beau's has plenty of outdoor seating in front and behind the building, so with yesterday's balmy weather we grabbed a table behind the building and dug into our lunch. Between us, we bought two burgers, a cup of Rhode Island Chowder, a Heath Bar shake and a soft drink for around $35 after tax. My chowder was pretty good, with a tasty broth and plenty of diced potatoes and tender diced clams. My wife enjoyed her shake but noted those Heath Bar bits were all clumped together at the bottom of the cup instead of being mixed in throughout. Our first visit to, and experience at Beau's were both quite enjoyable!

It has some hometown charm with a relatively large menu. We enjoyed the pad woon sen (flavorful), tamarind duck (crispy), fried rice, vegetable soup (healthy and nice broth that wasn't too salty), and lemongrass stir fry with tofu. The entrees are about $16-20 each. The sauce for the pad thai wasn't our favorite and tasted a bit too sweet. We also enjoyed the crispy spring rolls with taro and nonsteamed spring rolls. We would pass on the hot tea next time as it was just a regular tea bag. Service was welcoming. The space looks like a small two-story home with a few tables inside. Reservations are probably necessary since the place isn't big. They have a private parking lot so finding a spot is easy. Since it's on a busy road, making a left turn leaving can be a pain.

Their mission is imbued in their staff, products, how they set up their space, and how you order. We came here for breakfast on a weekday and had a lovely experience. They have breakfast and lunch cafe menus (+catering), yummy pastries (cookies, muffins and scones) and various coffees and drinks. We enjoyed the omelette (if you order more than 3 ingredients there's a charge) and the village breakfast which was eggs, potatoes (slightly blackened), sourdough toast (or wheat) and bacon. Prices are fairly standard ($11-14) and portions not very large. The panetonne, toasted coconut, and chocolate chip scones ($5 each) were all good and baked well. The honey latte and hot chocolate (most drinks are $4-8) were also very creamy and delicious, though slightly too sweet for our tastes (made it taste good though!) You order at the counter and then take a table and place a marker with nice words like "love" and then your food is brought to you. The actual space is very inviting, with lots of nooks and crannies (tables with chairs, couches, a fireplace). They also sell t-shirts ($30) and sweatshirts ($40-50?) which are pretty soft material, as well as ground coffee, cards, granola, etc. The other half of their space is their homemade pasta place so it's a unique layout and looked fun as well. There were plenty of customers cycling in and out, many sitting down with a warm drink and a pastry. Parking isn't huge but was not super super small but could be an issue if they got an influx of folks hanging out. Wouldn't blame them though because it's a comfortable place with free wifi. Looking forward to returning! Shopping like Whole Foods, walmart, and Shop Rite are all within a few miles.
