    chocolate martini time

i usually stay away from quaint inns, as i am more of a vegas, large hotel type person. i was unsure what to expect. thanks to rainy weather, my plane was delayed and i did not check in until after midnight. the inn sent me several texts - one reminder that cancellations needed to be made 48 hours in advance; a following one welcoming me soon. i replied to the text while i was gazing mournfully out my airplane window at the unrelenting rains that kept us from leaving the terminal. much to my surprise, someone actually texted me back and told me it would be no problem to check in late - someone was there 24 hours a day. i was relieved. almost as relieved as i was when my lovely flight attendant brought me an overpriced glass of wine and a tiny bag of stale pretzels. these things are necessary when flying. we arrived after midnight, check in was a bit slow, but these things happen. when i booked, i chose the king size suite. however, i obviously suffered a temporary bout of not comprehending the written english language, and booked TWO king rooms - they were adjoining rooms. yoiks. our rooms were not in the main building, there is another building across the parking lot - warning, if you have unwieldy luggage, there are no hotel trolleys to help with this. also, there are no elevators. think of it as exercise. happily, the stair flights were not copious, and i made it to the rooms without believing my death was imminent. rooms are spacious and clean. the 'larger' room had a mini refrigerator and fireplace (the fireplace did not work, maybe they turn them off during the summer months, idk). the adjoining room was nice; bathroom and closet were both smaller than the first room. however, both bathrooms had towel heaters and jacuzzi tubs. yay! here's a little tidbit - if the keurig machine does not work in your room, turn the master switch on, rather than calling down to the front desk and telling them the coffee machine is not working. this may, or may not be from me experiencing it firsthand... this inn is also used for weddings and other gatherings. judging from the wine fueled shrieks i heard the following evening, people were preparing for a future wedding. the grounds are well kept and spacious. a golf course is across the highway from the hotel. if you want your room to be cleaned each day, put the housekeeping request tag on your door - the staff is amazing - our rooms were so clean and fresh smelling. as well, visit the pub and enjoy the chill service while basking in the sun. our waiter was great, we had mozzarella sticks, which i guess were yummy. i didn't eat any; my dining companions did not clutch at their stomachs or groan, so i am assuming the sticks were tasty. i put my energy into my chocolate martinis. someone had to do it. sadly, i did not have the chance to sample the sunday brunch. everyone i encountered at this site was friendly and always helpful. it was a very pleasant stay. the only thing that is pissing me off is how tedious and boring this review turned out. where's my usual lack of decorum? the snark? i must do better...

    flies on ceiling

ROOM INFESTED WITH BUGS!! Spent a night in room 27 over Columbus/Indigenous Peoples weekend. It was supposed to be a 2 night stay. However when I returned to my room Sat evening I found it infested with flies! I killed 4 with the tissue box in the room, then called the front desk to ask for another room. I was told they were full and couldn't move. More bugs were found in the room so I called the front again and ask for that night to be refunded as I wasn't comfortable staying. The very nice young lady at reception called the owner and informed me that he was willing to offer a $65 credit for Sat, because I stayed Fri and not had any complaints about insects the first night!!! I have included pictures of room 27 and its extra inhabitants, on the ceiling in the bedroom and bathroom, as well as dead on the rug. I actually had to dispute the charge on my credit card because the owner didn't feel that flies were a valid reason to cut my stay short. I will add that the young lady at the desk was very sweet and as understanding as she could be, as she was obviously in a very awkward position.

I'm a food connoisseur and I'm make chef style dinners. I choose this restaurant based on the Chef. I was very disappointed the risotto over cooked it should have a bite to it. The swordfish was over cooked dry and had way too much blackened seasonings. The rack of lamb said Parmesan encrusted and it was really breadcrumbs patted on it right before service. The presentation was nice. The lady who sat us was rude but our server was very nice.

View was lovely. But pool was locked up :(

The view was beautiful. The deck was nice but had lots of problems with our orders. The amenities state that the pool was available but it was locked up. We could not even sit in lounge chairs near pool. The owner spoke to many locals but never spoke to us. We spent over $525 for dinner, a night stay and drinks, it would have been nice to have been greeted. I do not feel we would stay again. The food was absolutely wonderful from the restaurant for dinner. We had the special lobster with scallops and shrimp stuffing. It was the best meal of our trip. We would recommend for dining but not a stay.

Overall the best option in town. Not perfect. But the best destination option in reach of bangor. Plenty of room for amazing experiences.

When I got there at the height of summer, they were totally booked. So, before anything else I want to point out something that really meant a lot to me. I have multiple sclerosis and I forgot to ask for a handicap room. The room had two grab bars in the tub which was amazing! Generally, the world doesn't automatically think of people with mobility issues, but this place did. Otherwise, beautiful place with a lovely room. The room was clean, spacious, well appointed and was well lit with a nice window out front. Check-in was easy and the people who work there are very nice. The gentleman cleaning my room was outside when I was putting my duffel bag back up in the cargo carrier on top of my car and came right over to help me. Like I said, 10 out of 10!

Chips & candy would have been nice but again there's a store very close. Definitely gonna save this place for nxt visit to Maine.

Despite it being a weekday the bill was $343.35 as the tourist season had started. We had a rented a vehicle and the Bar Harbor Hampton was priced even higher than this one. We choose Hamptons because of the Hilton ownership oversight, although individually they are privately managed so quality will vary. We came from Minnesota an had just spent three nights at the Portland Downtown-Waterfront Hampton and were in Bar Harbor for a cruise and to check out Arcadia National Park. As it turns out we should have spent the three nights here and just one at the sketchy Portland Hampton. My girlfriend's daughter insists on separate beds for all of us. One great thing about Hamptons is that a rollaway bed added to a double queen room is not an issue, although the quality of the bed itself varies greatly by location. Here our requested rollaway was waiting for us with linens and pillows, and it was a decent one unlike the broken one we got in Portland that also didn't have a pillow or top sheet. My girlfriend actually commented on how nice the room was, a rare nod of approval as we are both a bit cynical. The thermostat had its own remote, the Hilton app actually worked on the TV if I remember right, there was an ice bucket and even a couple mini recycling bins. The view was just the local shopping mall, but that's not what we got the room for. One slight disappointment was being refused the token Hilton Silver Level membership benefit of free bottles of water on arrival. Maybe this isn't a 'select' Hampton. The workout room here was large and modern, unlike many Hampton workout rooms. The pool was also well kept. The normally no frills Hampton breakfast was way above par at this property. There was an abundance of choices and healthy options in bakery, hot and cold items, fresh fruit, toppings, and beverages. This included dairy free and gluten free options like Silk almond milk and Udi's gluten free muffins. See the image postings. This was an especially welcome sight after the sparse Portland Hampton breakfast bar of the previous three days. A surprising discovery I got on checking out the lobby after unpacking was the 'Iced Coffee Bar'. The receptionist told us they were the only Hampton to have one. It had a nice sign, coffee container, a dozen Monin syrups, creamer, ice bucket, cups, stir sticks, and napkins. See the image posting. My girlfriend and daughter planned to try it before we left early the next morning as I had understood from the receptionist it was available 24 hours. Unfortunately, it was taken down during breakfast. I'm not sure the girls even saw it. Other then missing out on the Iced Coffee Bar and not getting the token Hampton Silver Membership bottled water perk, this may have been our best Hampton stay of the dozen or so different Hampton properties we have tried. It should be the textbook model in management for other Hamptons to follow.

I love the 19th century feel. Did not love the nonexisting wifi - I had to go down to the living room to get any semblance of connection, but my room was up top with zero service. Not the quietest place but I've had worse. The weird part - for the cheaper rooms there's a shared bathroom. Fine, it's an old house. But the other person didn't lock the door. Didn't notice the "VACANT" when you walked in, eh? Well you sure noticed me! I hightailed it back, heard that person rush back to their room, and the bathroom was all set for my shower. Unforgettable is a positive thing, right? Can't really speak to the hotel staff as they were never present - just had my key at the front desk and name/room number. Anyone could walk in there and take a key and a room - until the person whose room it was supposed to be walks in and doesn't have a key. Not great, but at least the room locks! Oh, and my room had a reclining rocking-couch. I kid you not. I wanted to sit down and I had to jam a fireplace log under it so I could sit without it rocking all over the place. (I wanted to try to sit down with wifi. That wasn't happening.) Verdict: If you need to stay in Lincoln, I don't want to be too harsh with my star rating. It's not a terrible place, it's just very much walk-in-and-sleep. Nothing else to recommend for it.
