Note: I'm not having any issues but scheduled my annual & routine eye check up. At the appointment they start by doing some standard tests and then the DR does their normal and routine tests. If they don't find any eye issues, I only pay the $10.00 co-pay. However, (little did I know) if they find an eye condition they automatically change this to a medical appointment which now costs $65.23. Here is my complaint. The only thing different is them telling me about the condition of my eyes. So instead of saying your eyes are perfect and come back in a year they tell you about an eye condition, they'll keep an eye on it and come back in a year. Is this not the purpose of a check up is to find out the condition of your eyes. Let me repeat: Nothing (no tests, eye checks) was done different from it being a $10.00 visit to a $65.23 visit except they TOLD me about a situation with my eye. There was absolutely no additional work done during that appointment. When I have my dental check-ups they tell me the condition of my teeth. If they find work that needs to be done they don't go back and charge me for the check up. We move forward with my treatment plan. United Health Care said they pay according to the code the doctor's use. The Eye Care Clinic changing this to medical billing generates more money for them and more out of pocket for the customer. The optometrist took extra time to get to know me and learn about my life which was very refreshing. The selection of frames and sunglasses are spot on in terms of variety. I was a longtime patient of Dr. Hansen (10+ years) and always felt I received good care with him. I…read morerecently relocated but was back home visiting family and was having problems with the fit of my glasses, which were purchased elsewhere. A family member suggested I visit St Anthony Eye Clinic because they had also had a pair of purchased-elsewhere glasses adjusted there at no cost. Because I had been a patient for many years, I stopped in and politely asked whether they might be able to help me adjust one of the arms, which was loose, and which I'd been having trouble tightening on my own. The woman who met me at the door was polite and said they'd be happy to help, but the person I spoke with at the optical counter (an older woman with short hair and glasses) rudely rebuffed me, sneeringly saying that they won't touch glasses they didn't sell without a $40 fitting fee. After handling my glasses she shoved them back at me without wiping them off or apologizing for the inconvenience or cost. Ten to twenty dollars I could understand, but to charge a patient of 10+ years $40 to tighten the loose arm on a pair of glasses is extortionate, and the attitude was galling. I was really taken aback by how dismissive and rude this person was. I left the office feeling humiliated and upset. If they couldn't offer the service at a reasonable cost, that's their prerogative, but as a small business working with seemingly locale clientele, a little kindness and basic courtesy would go a long way, and it was disappointing to encounter the lack of it. I wouldn't recommend St. Anthony Optical to anyone after this experience.

I thought I was having a consultation to assess my eyes for a condition which would be helped by scleral lenses. When I asked what the visit would cost as a cash paying customer, I was told they wouldn't know the exact cost because the exact tests they perform aren't known until I am seen by the Dr. Ok fine, can I at least get a ballpark? Is it going to be, like, $300? $1000? The front desk person literally laughed and said "no, much closer to $300". Doesn't sound crazy, so I sign the HIPPA form and walk in. I see Dr. Holland and after a few minutes he determines I do not have the condition for which I came in for, but since I am here he pulls out test lenses and pops one into my eye. He explains how they work and what to expect (improved comfort over soft lenses but same vision as before). Dr. Holland gets up, walks out, and in comes Tiffany the office manager to show the cost of scleral lenses and subsequent appointments should I choose to move forward. She says since I am paying cash, I get a 30% discount. Total cost? $1620 for two lenses and unlimited future visits to get the fit "just right". I tell her I need to check with my HSA on reimbursement and think of this is right for me. She asks me to sign a document saying she explained the costs (mistake #1) I asked to pay for today's visit on the way out of the office and they said they would prefer to bill insurance first. I said that I am certain my insurance will not cover this visit; they said "we will just try it - you never know what they might cover!" (mistake #2). It was quite surprising to receive a bill several weeks later for $1073.99 for my 20 minute visit. Apparently I agreed to move forward with the lenses and unlimited future adjustment appointments by signing the document which explained go-forward costs. Expensive lesson learned. I spoke with Tiffany, the office manager about the bill asking if there was some sort of mistake and clarification on what was sent. She claims that I agreed to move forward - absolutely not, but she says it's my word against hers so... whatever? I asked if I can at least get the 30% cash paying discount - nope the best she can do is 10% since I am NOT MOVING FORWARD. So I guess I am, like, being punished for not moving forward with a treatment that Dr. Holland deemed unnecessary? Cool. I'm sure that Cornea and Contact Lens Institute will be in business for many years operating this way because, really, what can a patient do once this place sends the bill? You pay and they profit. Other things you should know: * Your $1000+ consultation (and I, guess, fitting?) appointment is only good for 90 days - unlike a regular contact lens rx which is typically good for 2 years * they seem to pack an extraordinary amount of work into 20 minutes. * if you happened to be swindled by this operation you can argue for a 10% discount * oh, and a consultation costs $1073.99 as of 8/2021

I checked the web site and saw that this place was nearby. Contact lenses in the name? Five minutes away? Yes please! I was very impressed with their COVID precautions--definitely the strongest I've seen: phone screen before entering the building, masks for all, lots of hand washing and sanitizer, and temperature and blood oxygen checks. Everyone there was friendly, courteous, and communicative. I had the first appointment of the day, and although I had set aside an hour as a buffer, I was in and out in less than three quarters of an hour. The exam was thorough, and while I didn't get met eyes dilated this time (and can't comment on their retinal exams), I can say that the pressure test was the least unpleasant I have experienced--no horrible air puff! Dr. Holland recommended some new contact lenses for me, and I am testing them out. So far, so good! I definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a new place to get an eye exam.
