It is in a converted high school, and I appreciate that an existing structure is being utilized instead of tearing down and building new. Loose Screw is a pretty chill spot with an impressive selection of craft beers on tap. The seating options are diverse, ranging from tables and stools upfront to a more lounge-like setup in the back with sofas and such. They organize their menu by number, which makes sense given the wide variety of options available. Just give them the number when you order, and you're good to go. Service was friendly and prompt on the busy day that I went. You can take your beer to go and explore the rest of the building/check out other vendors or stay put and check out the funky signage adorning the walls. It seems family-friendly. I saw several groups with young children. So, if you're bringing little ones along, this might be a plus. Inside tables and barstools along with comfy couches make it like Taylor's living room. Or garage or even throwback teen bedroom given the classic concert posters. This place is pretty cool...it's in the old Taylor high school in an old classroom...not kidding. We drove up and were like...is this a school?? It...was. Now it is a bunch of shops, a bar, a bakery, a salon, and more! They have a really good beer selection and the staff was really nice. You can take your beer outside and sit down at some picnic tables. They also had live music with a guy playing guitar who was pretty good. We don't live in Taylor and were expecting to meet friends at a club to see a band, so when we pulled up to a high school parking lot thanks to our GPS, we were sure we had the wrong place. Nope, that's where this "club" is, in a barely converted vintage high school building that kept its original signage. You walk up several steps into the main entrance and you'll find that a number of small businesses are inhabiting what used to be classrooms. The lockers and original restrooms remain intact. It's a bit surreal. The club looks more like a coffee house inside, but they do have a full bar and quite a lot of beers on tap. They have a small stage in one corner, but that evening they had the band set up outside by the front steps of the school, against the building under the trees, where there isn't a stage. There are picnic tables out there and you can order drinks through a window that feels like a drive through. Prices were higher than what we pay at an Austin bar ($9 and up for a beer), but they weren't charging a cover. There were a lot of local families there that seemed to be regulars, so it seems to be a local hangout. Not really my scene, but if you're in Taylor, it may be yours. read more

This place is certainly pretty great and a hidden gem in Taylor, Texas. We were visiting a friend who just moved to Taylor and we found this spot. It's located in an old high school so it's not the easiest to spot. The bartender was exceptionally friendly and helpful. There are about 45 beers on tap. They also have wine and sooner non-alcoholic beverages. We started with two flights of four different beers. All the beers were very smooth and full of flavor. After two flights, I got a pint of one of the beers that I enjoyed the most. Regardless of the type of beer drinker you are, there's a brew for you. They had a band playing and a food truck in the parking lot as a nice touch. They also allow you to get a sealed double pint to go. That's my only small complaint. The "to-go" double pint was much more expensive. I wanted to get two but only got one since it would have been $52. Yikes. I'm still very pleased with my experience and if you live or visit Taylor you should definitely go to The Loose Screw! read more

I came into town to visit my son and his girlfriend and help set of their home they just bought in Taylor which is a few blocks from The Loose Screw. We popped in to check out the old Taylor HS businesses and met the owner and she was a sweetheart from hello! She was familiar with a place we love Brookwood so it was an immediate connection. We came back later Friday night for some drinks and music, what a cool vibe of family, dogs, good beer and their daughter played in the band as well! Great music! I highly recommend this local place for a great beer and ambiance! I spoke with a few locals that frequent this place and they all had wonderful things to say about it and the family that runs it. I visited this on an impulse, so happy I did. The school is pretty open and you can drink and roam around. They have some pretty dope slides (old fire escapes) around the school grounds and no one to stop you from playing on them. From the moment I stepped into The Loose Screw, the owners talked to me as if we had been friends for years and each time I visited after that they would make it a point to come sit down and say hello. One of my favorite and fun places to go. Tammy and Don are amazing owners. I love going when they are there. Very relaxed atmosphere and I love sitting in the back room corner. Love the live music and sitting outside sipping on some of their well selected 40+ drafts. You can take your own food to enjoy with your beverages. So relaxing sitting outside under the huge trees.
