Came here for a quick bite and drink after photographing some beautiful sunset on River Liffey. On a Friday night when most of the bars/pubs of Dublin would be packed and hard to get in, this little neighborhood pub still had plenty of seats to offer for 1-4 guests on the side room despite an equally crowded and noisy group area with seats and chairs for larger groups. Vibe is totally classic local Irish pub with dim light and sporty and lively. Kitchen stayed open till late. Staff was very friendly but on a busy Friday night there seems to be only two servers/bartenders taking care of the whole packed pub so service might take a while. Or you could just rush to the bar area and grab your drinks and place your food order. Had two Irish whiskies, Redbreast 21 and 27. Server kindly reminded me that they would be expensive but I was aiming for them anyway. They were both phenomenal. Worth the price. Also had a plate of fish and chips. You could tell they were freshly made, as the chips/fries were piping hot and warm and creamy, and the fish came with a crispy, crunch, nicely seasoned crust and creamy, flaky, savory texture inside. Overall, quite satisifed with this enjoyable experience. 4-4.5 stars. read more

We booked two nights Sun 7/24 & Mon 7/25/22 at The Lombard Townhouse in Dublin. Ireland. We had spent a week at the Farrell Clan Rally in Longford, IE but wanted to be in town for our return flight on Tue 7/26. We found this place on the Booking.com website. Easy to book, value priced for us, & centrally located for walking or public transportation. It was a 20 min. walk from the Connelly RR Station and only a 5 min walk to the bus stop to get the express bus to the airport. So very economical for the thrifty traveller. $255E incl 9% VAT tax for our two night stay. This location was great for easy walking to Trinity College, the Temple Bar area, EPIC Ireland, The GPO, Grafton St, & St Stephen's Green. Note: On & Off city tour bus can take you to everything for one price all day. This corner is very busy during the work week. But our room was clean, tidy, & quiet at night. Nothing fancy here but it was just what we needed. The barman in the pub was very helpful as he showed us to the room. Note: just stairs here. Also no USB outlets so bring your handy travel converter outlet for charging phone, etc. Only one minor problem w/ bathroom sink drain that was resolved while we went exploring. After we checked in we went to the bar to get some local knowledge, which was plentiful. Good thing b/c their internet was out. So we some pints while watching the All Ireland Gaelic Football Championship match on TV. We enjoyed the bar on both evenings and had one pub-style meal here. Dinner for two 32E. Travel Tip: The Lombard accepts Euros, Pounds, & US Dollars. This was the only place we visited that offered all three payment options. Again there many options for accomodations in Dublin but this is good one for the thrifty travel. We enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again. We randomly ended up here on a lazy Wednesday afternoon in March with just the kids and me. They loved it and that is why I am giving it a 5 star rating. First, our waiter was spot-on about what beer I should get based on what I wanted. Second, the boys loved their chicken goujon and chips and whatever one calls the Irish version of a fried potato skin with cheese and bacon. I definitely was not going for healthy. I had a tuna wrap, which was tasty - good but not great. Also, we happen to be watching a horse racing event (Cheltenham Festival), which we had never seen before - not avid horse racing fans. It was fun to watch the local folks cheer on their horses and they patiently explained to us the different events and about the Cheltenham Festival. read more

After an all-night flight, and no hotel room to check into, the idea of breakfast was a welcome one. The sole server in the bar/restaurant recommended the full Irish breakfast. The Lombard is a real gem with friendly and accommodating servers and bartenders who genuinely make you feel welcome and who offer their suggestions in regards to choosing the best menu item. I had the Guinness stew that was so hearty and flavorful, the sirloin steak lean and quite different from meat in the U.S. I was told to be ready for a difference in food because there are less chemicals and preservatives and the people told me this were so on point. The stew was served on top of mashed potatoes with carrots and it was the perfect Irish meal that I could not wait to have. I also tried the Dublin Seafood Chowder since I shared with my friend and it was seriously delicious. Salmon, shrimp, potatoes, carrots, in a rich but not overly heavy cream sauce perfectly seasoned to perfection. Yum. Literally. I highly recommend this amazing pub to anyone wanting nothing with frills or flare, just amazing food. read more

I had a pint here today and that's about it. There's nothing really special about this place. It does food, the kind that comes with a ketchup and tartar sauce dispenser. The pub has a larger than usual selection of wine. What else? It's supposed to be popular with Trinity scholars but it being summer and all, I didn't see any students or professors having intellectual debates. After being ignored by a gruff barman I took a seat and waited to be served, but the busy floor staff (also quite gruff ignored me too. Normally I'd speak up but as I said, the staff weren't approachable so I left after 10 minutes so I've no idea what the food is like. Tourists around me got served in that time so I think if I hadn't been local I may have been more tended to faster. Probably more a tourist place, I don't know, and I won't because I won't be back. read more

First review of my eurotrip. The food was very good. I ordered a steak burger with a friend egg on it. Right outside of a popular university, I was expecting the prices to be astronomical, but I was pleasantly surprised. The Crowd at lunchtime was mostly working Irish professionals, I seemed to be the youngest one there. The reason for the 4 star review and not 5? The service. I was handed a menu without a word or greeting, and when it came time to pay, I was siting for 20 minutes without the bill. All in all, great place to grab food or a drink. read more

I often like a quite place to drink, where you're not eyed suspiciously by the regulars, to read my paper or converse with my friends with out shouting. And so I ended up in here for a few weeks in a row (after a class) and I thought it was great. Nice clientèle, nice atmosphere and most importantly great staff. It's a bit far away to be my local but if I had to wait for somebody coming of a train in Pearse St I'd happily go in here, and give them directions. I was here before with a 'large group' of photographers and still found the service to be great. I haven't had food here, so I can't comment like Alexandra. But for a nice beer and a bit of peace and quite I would recommend here! read more

This was a very cool restaurant and bar in the heart of Dublin. We had a large group of friends in town for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic back in September, and we frequented The Lombard while we were in town - we came in at least three times! We came here for lunch one day (the Guinness beef stew was yummy), and while we were there, we found out they would be one of the few bars open on the morning of game day. Since it was supposed to be rainy on game day, we decided to hold our pre-game tailgate at the Lombard. Everyone enjoyed our breakfast, and the staff was quick to get our food and drinks out to such a large group! They were very accommodating, and we continued to come back since the food and drinks were great! We even came back post-game for celebratory drinks and food too! read more

This lil pub doesn't look like much from the outside but if you're looking for really good pub food and a pint this is a great spot. It's tradition for me and my college pals to get breakkie and a pint after our exams here and the breakfast is whopper! Full Irish is 10 quid and they do massive toasted sambos for 8 quid. The club sandwich looks amazing! It was ticking over here from 11am until I left at 8pm which speaks for itself.... The pints are pretty good too :-) read more

My first day in Dublin from San Francisco, I was surprised to see a pub called the Lombard. On Lombard St. no less! This pub is a fine place to sit. There's a covered smoking lounge outside, free wifi (check the chalkboard behind the bar for the password), and often a sports game on the TVs. The bartenders keep the TV volume obtrusively high, which is a plus if you are interested in watching. Pints are about $4.80, the kitchen is open until 10pm, and the food is passable to very good. I ordered the soup of the day, potato and leek, which was served piping hot with a matching hot baguette, and the caesar salad starter. The caesar was more like a bacon salad with a side of lettuce..... but who's complaining? ;) At 5 EUR it was plenty for a meal, and the bacon will leave you full full full. read more

Not sure why it was empty on a Saturday night, but I noticed as soon as I walked in it smelled like a homeless person. We were a group of four, order drinks and several of the beers were out. Food was passable, server was pleasant. Couldn't get past the fact it was so dead and smelled wrong. Not recommended. read more

I've been living in Dublin for 4 years and this is by far the worst pub I've ever been. Food is nothing special, prices are on average, staff is unbelievably rude, with the manager being a unique combination of arrogance, aggressivity and stinginess. I ordered a wrap with roasted vegetables and melted mozzarella, I got it without cheese. I told it to the waitress and I was told that they could give me cream cheese instead, if I wanted melted cheese I had to wait long 'cause they had many orders. As the pub was packed, I didn't want to create much inconvenience, so I said I was fine without cheese but I wanted to pay something less than the price listed on the menu (10 euros) since I got something less than what I ordered. She walked away without saying anything so I thought it was fine. But then they charged me 10 euros, and when the manager came he didn't even want to listen to what happened, he just started shouting that he was the manager and he made decisions, I had eaten the wrap so I had to pay 10 euros and that he couldn't change the price. How ridicoulous, a manager who can't make a discount (for THEIR mistake!). I was relunctant to pay and he said he would call the garda. I'm not joking, he wanted to call the garda for some cheese. He probably thought we were tourists and he could easily ripped us off. Pity for him, I'm a local living in the neighbourhood and if I had liked the place I might have become a new regular customer. I walk on that street twice a day and I was always wondering why it is always half empty. Now I understand. read more

This is a nice pub located near Pearse Street and Grand Canal Dock. It gets a good crowd on the weekends on some nights when a match is on, but I mainly go here for lunch. They have a really good menu and the prices are very reasonable. One thing to be aware of, due to their location and the good food they fill up at lunch time so try to get there a little early. Also the service is very friendly but can be a bit slow mainly due to the massive number of people who pop in all at one time for lunch. Even after saying that I have to admit I still go here for lunch often as its a great spot. read more

Had the loveliest lunch of our vacation here this past week. Everything was excellent especially the authentic Irish soda and the pepper sauce which as it turns out went good with everything! Our service was hands down the most delightful we received on our trip and we will fondly remember our charming waiter with his Mortuusequusphobia. The Lombard is my go-to for solid pub grub, being able to watch the match and actually hear the commentary, a quiet drink, and other such peaceful activities. It's a nice atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. Won't blow your socks off but it's a good reliable. read more

Nice Place, I go semi regular just as it is close to work. The food is nice enough the and potoato slices are really good actually :). But the food can be slow coming out which isnt great if your just dropping in for lunch from work. Its a stuggle to get through it in time. This place used to be a dive called Mahaffy's that was popular with locals and students alike (for students I reckon because of the cheap prices). Mahaffy's closed down and re-opened as The Lombard with new posh decor and new expensive prices as well. But, it's very nice inside and they also serve some delicious food so while the drinks are a tad more expensive than they used to be, the place is really enjoyable now and great for post-work drinks! read more

We came in here en route back to our apartment after a day exploring Dublin. It had been drizzling off and on all day: we were damp and comfort food was welcome. I had the Guinness & beef stew, served over mashed potatoes & carrots, with slices of homemade brown bead on the side. My only regret was that Europe has not adopted the "doggie bag" tradition, so that I could have taken the remaining portion home with me. My husband's rack of lamb also disappeared quickly, and he kept sampling my stew after his lamb was gone. Casual ambience; reasonable prices: noise level a little high for good conversation.
