Dined there December 9, Saturday, with my good friend and his sister. Wonderful experience. The food was excellent! I have never received better service anywhere. I am only rating the bar and not the food. My husband and I stopped in for a drink at the bar. The place was recommended by our hotel staff. However upon entering and seeing an empty bar, we were told that we were not allowed to sit at the bar because all of the seats were RESERVED for local patrons. I have never heard of reserved bar seating, but this place has it! So if you ever want to stop by for a drink, you probably won't be allowed to sit at the empty bar as we were told that this is a normal situation. My husband commented that we needed to move to Laurel and open a nice neighborhood bar, as this is clearly lacking. read more

My drink was wrong. My salad dressing was incorrect. My mother ordered a second martini and my wife received a second margarita that she didn't order or want. My ribeye was perfect. That only happens about 1 out of 10 times for me. Staff was really good and they seemed to hustle for everyone. I give this place 4-3/4 stars. All the Laurel locals said this was the place to enjoy dinner and The Loft did not disappoint. After a 30 minute wait (don't wait to call for reservations the day of if it's Thursday through Sunday because you likely won't get a table). Nonetheless we enjoyed our ribeye and filet meals that were cooked to perfection. Keep in mind the streets of downtown Laurel are in a huge mess for a large part of downtown but nonetheless you can still get to all of the restaurants and shops If you'll just be a little patient. Before we went, my wife called and asked if it was busy. She was told not at all, come on and get right in. When we get there, maybe 10-15 minutes later, we were told by the hostess, that we could not sit in the dining room as it was totally reserved the entire evening. (Hmmm, why weren't we told that when we called?). Our only choice was on the patio. So we sat on the hot patio. Right off the bat I felt something slimy on my arm and it was a glob of food that had not been cleaned up. We ordered. There were flies everywhere and of course got much worse where the food arrived. Then a party of 8 ladies were sat behind us. They were complaining about the flies and the heat. After a short while, they left and we assumed, they just left. So we eat while swatting at flies, hot, etc. The food by the way was OK, nothing to write home about, but OK. As we were leaving, my wife spotted the 8 ladies and asked them how they got to sit inside. They said they just said they didn't want to sit in the heat and have flies. We looked around, and low and behold there were at least 4 empty tables. I asked to speak to the manager, and the hostess said she wasn't there but she'd get someone else. I explained all of the above to him and he graciously apologized, and said that since we'd already eaten and paid, he really didn't know what he could do but apologize. REALLY? Maybe a refund, a free drink at the bar, but he could think of nothing. Have tried it maybe three times. It is very popular with the tourist crowd that comes to Laurel. I went to celebrate buying a home in Laurel for my first visit. Later to bring other people to see the place. The steaks are of a good quality and cooked very good (however a bit expensive for the experience). The plating leaves a bit to be desired if they claim they are a five star restaurant. However the food was good. I would consider this restaurant more of a good casual dining experience. I think it is also more geared for tourists who come to see Laurel due to the HGTV "Home Town" series. Personally I think they need to update the tables & chairs and use table covers rather than use plain tables. It is a bit underwhelming when you first go in. And yes, I would go back again. Hubby had filet topped with shrimp garbage and the loaded potato casserole he recommends this highly! I had steak Alfredo it was alright but next time I'll get the filet it was really good. We came here on a very busy Saturday night. Downtown had been packed all day! We waited an hour, which was fine because they called us when our table was ready and we were able to walk around downtown while we waited. Even though they were slammed, we received excellent service. The salads were good and the filet was cooked perfectly. Make sure to get the potato casserole! I was excited to try the Loft on my most recent business trip to Laurel. There seems to be a distinct lack of good restaurants in Laurel for some reason and I had heard good things about this place from my client. While ok, and definitely good in comparison to other offerings in Laurel, I was not blown away by the Loft. I had gone in expecting to order a steak. But, they only offered one type of steak on their menu, ribeye if I remember correctly, in various sizes. I just wasn't feeling it for some reason so decided to go with "the best burger in Laurel." The burger was super tasty upon first bite, but as I continued to eat it became increasingly obvious that it was over-salted. If they had mellowed on the salt a bit, I would have enjoyed my meal much more. And, it was an alright burger, but nothing super fantastic. It was similar to what my dad might cook on the grill. As a side I went with the loaded potato casserole. (I had wanted a loaded baked potato, but apparently those are only offered on certain nights.) The casserole was tasty, but very filling so I didn't eat much of it. The wine and beer offerings were disappointing. They really only carry one brand of wine: Woodbridge. And, they had the typical beer: Bud light, Coors light, Heineken, etc. All of those sounded blech to me, so I stuck with water. My service was very good and friendly. From listening to other tables though, there appears to be some inconsistency among what each server tells their tables. For example, the table behind me was informed of some specials that I was not. So, because it is in Laurel, this place gets 3 stars. If it were anywhere else, I'd probably have to go with 2. They have potential, they just need to make some adjustments to be a truly good/great restaurant. read more

When you travel as much as my wife and I do pulling into a new town and finding a really good meal, even with all the revues available on the net, can be pretty much of a crap shoot. Not so in Laurel. Stopped by the Loft on our second night in town and had a great meal and an even greater experience. Delicious cocktails. Simple but well prepared food, and I should know, I was a working chef for over 30 years. Steaks were well seasoned and cooked as ordered, pasta dishes were plentiful and very tasty.
