What a great find, when we drive through Lauren after we heard about this HGTV town from a few of our colleagues. We drove around a bit and decided to explore downtown for a moment. When we walked by the smell, or better said the aroma caught our attention. We had to walk in. This is a place for meat lovers. The butcher dog is delicious and you can tell it's not processed like you're ordinary ...dog. So good! The beef jerky I took back home to CT, and it was gone within a week, so good. Wish I had bought more, but you can order online. Owners are super kind, and friendly. I believe good things are coming their way, cause it looks like they are expanding. The Knight Butcher is my favorite lunch spot in Downtown Laurel! It's a mom and pop shop owned by two of the most customer forward business owners around. They have recently expanded their lunch menu to an all day, served hot and fresh menu. You can't go wrong with any of the sandwich options but I'm particularly fond of the Hot Ham and Cheese! You get a toasted sandwich filled with their house cured Ham and melted cheddar cheese. Plenty of condiments to choose from and you won't find friendlier service anywhere. After you grab a bite to eat, be sure to check out their gourmet meats! Try my personal favorite, Picanha, or as they call it, Coulotte and a bag of Jerky. Such an impressive butcher for such a tiny little town! We had the pleasure of visiting The Knight Butcher during our stay in Laurel and we were overwhelmingly impressed by the selection and the service. We popped in juuuuust about 10 minutes past the time their lunch menu ends, but the kind soul behind the counter gladly made us a ribeye burger and a roast beef and provolone sandwich anyway. Not surprising, given the level of sweet Southern hospitality we encountered everywhere we went in Laurel, but still definitely worth noting. Our lunch sandwiches came with our choice of a bottled drink and chips. To say we were pleased with our meal would be an understatement. A note to herbivores - there is nary a vegetable to be seen in this place. It's all about the meat. I think I saw a basket of locally-sourced potatoes, but that was about it. Otherwise, this is a pretty-much-carnivore-only-type-experience. Actually, I guess that's not entirely true - they have homemade fudge! Their jerky is the best on that side of the Mississippi (I've been waiting to say that for a whole week). Seriously though, it's delicious and it doesn't make you fight to eat it, which I appreciate. My wife and I stopped in for a quick lunch and enjoyed a brisket burger (me) and ribeye burger (wife). Each came with a bag of chips and drink. The burgers were delicious, cooked just right. The staff was great - friendly and willing to help us in any way. We each got a piece of fudge - chocolate (me) and peanut butter (wife). We then decided to get some stuffed pork chops and bacon wrapped pork filet to take back to our camper and cook them for dinner. They were delicious! This butcher shop has been opened for about one year now. It is an attractive store that blends in well with the decor of downtown Laurel or at least parts of it. I say that as a compliment because downtown is going through a sort of a renaissance and Knight Butcher adds to it. This is a full service butcher shop. They receive a whole cow every other Monday and offer all parts of it. They offer locally raised grain fed beef. I purchased 4 rib eyes from them today and they turned out to be very good. Of course, prices are higher than beef purchased at local grocery stores and it can be argued if the beef tastes better. However, I am happy that Laurel has a business like this. I also stopped by earlier in the week for lunch. On M-W-F they offer a lunch special. The day I came by was for a brisket hamburger special that included a bag of chips and a soft drink for $9.50 before tax. I was offered cheese on my burger which I turned down and wasn't sure if that would have increased the price. Other than that my burger came plain with just the patty and bun. They had condiments there (ketchup, mayo, mustard and relish). The burger was good with a large patty (about 1/2 lb.) however I missed not having lettuce and tomato, etc. so while it was good it was somewhat plain. Chips are chips so I decided to give that meal a 3. On top of that spending over $10 with tax for that meal is a little expensive for Laurel. Counter service has been very friendly. Overall I am going to give the Knight Butcher an overall score of 4. While the lunch offerings are average you don't come here to eat. You come here to buy meat to take home and cook. And for that, I am a fan! read more

We had the pleasure of eating here twice during our stay in Laurel. The first time we tried the roast beef sandwich and ham sandwich. Both were awesome but the ham is definitely the winner. After speaking with the awesome staff, and trying some great jerky, they informed us about the Saturday live music and ribeye sandwiches. We stopped back in on Saturday and the ribeye sandwich was absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend. The atmosphere, staff, and music made the lunch that much better! read more

Stopped in for lunch while traveling. Wasn't sure what to expect, there are good reviews on Yelp but not overly descriptive. The Staff was super friendly and welcoming. The menu consisted of three different beef mix burgers. The burger was over an inch thick, very tasty. I had the brisket burger which had an amazing smoked flavor with a slice of cheddar. No condiments except mayo, mustard and ketchup packets but who needs condiments when you're eating superb quality beef, right? Burger came with a bag of chips and a canned drink or bottled water. The only drawbacks - the burger had been cooked for a while before it was served and was more dry than I would have expected and it was too windy and cool to eat on the large outdoor patio. Beef Jerky Heaven! My mom ships us Jerky and fudge from here often, but we finally had a chance to visit. There are several types of jerky offered and made fresh daily. All we have tried have been the best we have ever had. I am not a fan of store bought stuff but this is awesome. Chad- the Knight Butcher- is very friendly. The fresh meat case also looks delish. His wife makes fudge that is to die for. So many flavors! She will let you sample as well and is very helpful. They also have lunch specials everyday.
