Came here on business struggled finding a non-chain establishment. Hotel made this and two other suggestions. Great choice when we selected this one. The restaurant has been there for four years but the building is 111 years old. If the walls could only talk. We each ordered a rib eye streak. My guest wanted a baked potato which they were out of?? I could see being out of the potato casserole but not a baked potato. I didn't expect to have my salad dressing in a plastic to go type cup as it took away from the overall ambiance. Would come back. Everyone told us this was the best restaurant in Laurel, and they were correct! We came in just after they opened at 5 pm on a Tuesday night, so there was no wait. We ordered the special 14 oz. New York Strip Steak with two sides, intending to share it, and we discovered one of the most innovative ideas ever in a restaurant! For an extra $5.00, we EACH get two sides, then split the steak! The steak was absolutely perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the salads were tasty and substantial. I ordered the broccoli, which was great, and my wife also loved the bacon wrapped asparagus! (Did I mention "bacon wrapped?) Even the rolls were special! There are more very good restaurants in Laurel than one might expect, but The Loft truly could be the best! We called for reservations but we were there at 5:00 when they opened and would have been okay. By 6:00 pm the place was filling up. Very unprofessional. The wait staff needs to be trained. They came clearing the table while I was still eating. We asked about the prime rib and she said it was a big hunk of meat. We were charged $8 for split charge and she only brought one plate and a knife. I hope management will take time with food preparation and service since it is pricey. read more

If you have had more experiences in life than small town America, you will need to adjust your expectations of what many visitors and locals alike will acclaim to be the "best restaurant in Laurel." My hostess was rude. She plopped down my menu with her back to me, didn't look at me when we got to the table, and walked away quickly. I wasn't given a drink menu or asked if I wanted one. In spite of this, my server, Carlos, was very nice and attentive. Their coffee crusted burger was dry and came with no sauce on it. Their side of bacon wrapped asparagus was unsophisticated in preparation, presentation, and quantity and was cold. Their fried green tomatoes were unimpressive for being found in the south. They were also inconsistent in appearance to pictures already posted here before. It is not culturally tactful to charge a fee to use a debit or credit card. It was also disappointing to not find any good salad options on the menu. Most included croutons and cheese which kind of defeats the purpose. Table wobbly. Last night was the first time I've ever eaten at The Loft. I've heard for years it's a fantastic place to eat. But, I was totally proved wrong last night. My gf and I ordered a hamburger with fries (dressed) lettuce, tomato, onion and such. My gf ordered the fried green tomatoes. I got the coffee burger. We also go two side salads as well. I'm not a complainer or anything like that but when food is as expensive as this I have a pretty high standard. The food took for ever to come out the burger was way over cooked and dry. My order was completely messed up (I received apologies for this of course.) I was so hungry I told the waitress not to worry about taking the food back that I wasn't waiting any longer. I really was not impressed at all it was kinda a let down. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing idk. A very cool looking place in Laurel and probably one of the better restaurants but there were issues ! I completely understand the issues of employment but we paid $8 to have a meal "split". The entree arrived on one plate with the sides all mixed up with other orders at the table. We asked for a plate to "split" the entree ourselves and while it DID eventually show it was so late the food was cold. The "mixed veggie" side was actually mediocre green beans and when asked our server was quite vague about that issue. Just a warm, friendly restaurant in the tiny downtown section of Laurel. We sat at a high top table at the bar and split an excellent ribeye with fried shrimp. Our 14 oz steak was juicy, perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. The draft IPA beer was delicious and fresh and I ended up drinking two. It seems a lot of locals visit and don't be surprised if the owners, Joe and Roxanne come by to say hello and chat for a few minutes. Everything from the sauces to the entrées offer a flavorful experience. The atmosphere is relaxing yet sophisticated enough to consider the restaurant a prime candidate for a nice date night! The outside eating areas are an excellent opportunity for relaxing in the nice weather while enjoying top tier food. The drinks are wonderfully made and exhibit the experience of the bartenders. The desserts offer their own form of satisfaction that I found in the cheesecake specifically. The slice was soft and smooth with a crispy crust that satisfies every requirement for a quality cheesecake. The overall experience was more than satisfying, and although the relaxing and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere was a strong factor, the food carried the entire reason for the visit. There was a short wait, but that is not to be unexpected for such a popular restaurant in a smaller town. The lights, decorations, and layout of the place blended into and added to the downtown feeling. The waiters and waitresses were experienced and made sure to make the most out of our visit. The friendliness of the staff was greatly appreciated especially with the the busy night they had on their hands. Has an upscale feel for a local small town steak house. Side salad with spicy ranch was a nice surprise. On tap was some local beers from Southern Prohibition (Hattiesburg Ms). The 20 oz ribeye was delicious very tender and well seasoned. Bacon wrapped asparagus was cooked prefect. Had the white chocolate bread pudding for dessert and it was wonderful, one of the best I've ever had! Wait staff was very attentive and got us everything we wanted/needed. Yep - They have sweet potato fries! Historical Downtown Laurel is in the midst of being revitalized. The Loft is a great example of how they've reinvigorated an empty building into something great! Located in an old bank, the Loft has a good menu with some interesting choices. Our party enjoyed the Salmon, the Chicken Parm, the Chicken Salad, and I had the Shrimp Wrap. A wonderful long time restaurant in Laurel, MS. My favorite item is the Blackened Chicken (I think it's called the Central Avenue Chicken but I always forget until I look at the menu!) which comes out sliced and seasoned to perfection. Grab the steak bites for an appetizer and add Bacon Wrapped asparagus for your side and ENJOY! I haven't had anything bad off the menu so you're pretty safe to order anything. This was our second visit to The Loft and we were again disappointed. The service was horrible, we were there for an hour when it should of been 30 minutes for a burger and chicken sandwich. The appetizer was good, we had the 5 cheese fried cheese sticks. I had the Coffee Crusted burger, it was very dry and burnt around the edges but very medium to medium rare in the middle. My wife had the Cajun chicken sandwich which was dry without any flavor and was opened faced instead of a regular sandwich. There wasn't any beer on tap, it was all In bottles and were regular domestic beer. Overall, I was disappointed in the service, slow and inattentive. Three other tables were seated and were served and left in the amount of time that we were at the restaurant. I like to support local restaurants but we will not be supporting this one ever again. Black people are not welcomed!!! This is the 21st century!!!! We came tonight to enjoy what we thought would be an enjoyable experience, instead all we got was blatant disrespect! Let me elaborate: I called days in advance to make reservations for a group of 15. Not one time did they tell me that due to covid restrictions we all wouldn't be able to eat together. Had I been told this, I could have invited fewer people, or chosen a different location to host the event. They placed us on their patio which was insulated with plastic and no heat. When we asked if they would turn it on, a waiter told us they were out of propane. We sat there shivering!!! Next, we ordered 3 bottles of champagne.The adult who made the initial order went to the bar where she was IDENTIFIED as 26. The bottles and glasses were bought to the table no problem. Approximately 15 min later another lady came in screaming at us "hey! I need to see everyone's ID now" as if she was the police or something! Very rude!!!!! We got IDs out, but SHE didn't check all, just randomly selecting, then She left. Ten minutes after that, another waitress asked me to step out because I made the reservations. She then proceeded to ask me if I could ask the group to show IDs AGAIN!!!! This was beyond ridiculous at this point but I complied. She said they needed to do it because the "rude Let me see your ID" waiter had told everyone that she recognized someone she went to school with!!!! A complete LIE on her part! This was embarrassing and disruptive to our celebration! Mind you, everyone was over 21 minus my 9 month old niece that was at the table!!! At this point I asked for boxes and tickets. At lest 3 tickets were incorrect and they treated us as if WE were the ones who printed them out. Needless to say as were heading out the HEAT magically comes on!!!! The non-stop recommendations for this place are not wrong! We didn't even have steak & were blown away. Diane was fantastic! We asked what she liked & we were not disappointed. We had the central avenue chicken & the grilled shrimp Alfredo. The chicken was amazing! The grilled asparagus was even better than the bacon wrapped asparagus (yes, even with bacon) but both were really good. The Alfredo sauce is clearly homemade & is some of the best I have ever had. Although there was a line, we were seated and waited on quickly. I had the Steak Alfredo, and husband had the fish of the day- great portions, price, and quite delicious.
