Poutine bar
Naomi S.

We came to The Lodge recently as guests to a wedding. Though all I heard from my friend was praises as to how great it was working with them I can only comment on the guest experience. As a guest the only complaint I had was finding the place. GPS didn't know it didn't have its own entrance from the road so we got a little turned around finding the place. All the catering at the wedding is done in house. If you're lucky the bride and groom have opted to get the poutine bar. But even if they didn't you can rest assured that you won't have to eat dinner before the wedding. All the food was quite tasty and the service at the bar and at the table (even for a buffet option) was outstanding.

Tasty lava cake.

The property is on the National Register of Historic Places. It's on a large piece of land, ideal for getting away from urban life and enjoying the quiet. There are only two rooms. My husband and I stayed in Laura's room, which was beautiful. Actually, the whole house looks impeccable. There are free snacks and drinks and a living room area guests can use downstairs. When we went in the summer we were woken up early by the sound of many birds singing. Then we had breakfast. We're not usually breakfast-people, but the fresh fruit and mint ( some from the garden) with yogurt, honey and preserved lemon were incredible. This place made us feel as though we discovered a secret haven. It was really great.

The grounds are absolutely beautiful for an outdoor ceremony, very spacious with well tended landscaping and towering old trees that create a scene you cannot find anywhere else. The quaint charm of the bed & breakfast and carriage barn where we had the reception was just the best. Guests walking up the driveway looked around in awe at how beautiful it is here, more than one person commenting they felt like they were in a movie! The hospitality of Cathy and Jack for those who stayed overnight in some of the 3 bedrooms we rented for the weekend was 5 star. The daily breakfast was prepared from scratch and was all locally sourced and prepared perfectly. Our wedding day was literally perfect and Frog Pond was a big part of the reason why. If you have the opportunity to book an event here you are in for a truly magical time.

We had the Grouper and the Sea Scallops... we added some oysters on the 1/2 shell... in addition to to the spring rolls & crab cake as apps. The salad course was a perfect complement. We finished up with 2 desserts which were sublime... a lime tort and a poppyseed & raspberry gateaux and a cup of espresso BRAVO!

Overall, quite good. Relaxing atmosphere, tad chilly. Several servers led to some confusion as to…read morewho would be our actual waitstaff. Four introduced themselves besides the hostess. We ended up with a water/ drinks server who was fairly new, a bus/salad server who hadn't quite finished his training ( reaching across a seated person rather than serving from the outside of the table to each of us. He also had a bad habit of hooking a thumb into each salad). Nice kid, though. Waiter was difficult to understand clearly, but then I'm slightly deaf. All those nits picked aside, the food was terrific. The four of us had Caesar salads which were nicely done with dried capers instead of anchovy with an overall mellow palette. I prefer more lemon and garlic but that's just me. Most restaurants we visit are heavy-handed with presentation. Between the four of us we had a steak, a chicken zataar, and steak frites. Beef was cooked perfectly in a gentle, subtley-seasoned sauce. Best fries in town! Nice veggie medley. The chicken was pretty good. Not memorable, but a well executed idea. Portion sizes were just right for a summer evening. The most stunning taste of the night was the Earl Grey Crème Broulee. Really nice smoky flavor, not too sweet. Paired with Espresso. Overall, pleasant experience and a satisfying meal.
