From reading past reviews we were unsure about the rest of the experience. Let me tell you, it was amazing! We chose the roasted chicken and the pork tenderloin entrees. Both were delicious, and the cornbread was out of this world. Portion size was great, we were both stuffed, especially after the delectable chocolate sourdough cake with ice cream! DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE GLUTEN INTOLERANT. Judging by the severity of my reaction, they didn't just cross-contaminate my meal, they straight up served me a wheat dish. And this was after asking repeatedly to check that everything was gluten free because I have Celiac Disease... That said, everyone else enjoyed their meal and the food was tasty. The view is absolutely lovely. Our meal was mediocre at best. There was very little flavor to either the huge Caesar salad, or the risotto. The salmon fillet was nicely prepared though the miso glaze was overpowering. Our server Maria was perfunctory, and rather pretentious. Not sure I love the remodel (feels cheap, sterile and missing that traditional "lodge" feeling) but food is still good! I do like how they oriented the restaurant so that it faces sisters- gorgeous views. Our server was fantastic. The hostess was not super friendly and very frazzled as she also was bringing water and food to tables. She told us there was a ten minute wait even though more than half the restaurant was empty. There were many new menu options for breakfast. The coffee cake was outstanding - very almondy, which I liked it. I probably should have gotten something more creative than the ham and cheese omelette so that's my bad. It was standard. My husband liked his frittata OK but it wasn't really a frittata. There were no potatoes and more like an open faced omelette. Mimosa, coffee and Bloody Mary mix were solid. read more

Beautiful lodge restaurant and Bar. Beautiful views. Can't beat the view. Come watch the horses running in to the meadow at the end of the day. Seating outside downstairs and the Aspen Lounge upstairs has a separate Menu and is more casual with a bar and cozy & comfy seating and seating on the balcony. Service is great. The starters that we got were good - steamer clams and Cesar salad. the entrees were lackluster. they forgot to salt my ribeye and the plating looked terriblel. there was I think some sort of butter on the side? We had an exquisite experience - everything was 5 star - the Private Dining room was everything we hoped for and more! Our server Paola was very attentive, patient and professional serving a very jovial and "busy" group. The bar tender Chris S made excellent cocktails and made sure everyone was happy with their drinks! He and Paola made a great team. Been coming here for 40+ years, back when the old lodge was here. I love Black Butte, one of the best resort destinations I know of. In short, it took 80 minutes for us to complete our meal. The food delivery was extremely slow. The irritating thing for me is, how can a group who comes in 30+ minutes after you, be served and leave before my main course is served? The onsite manager could not give me a good answer to this question. I think first in first out is an appropriate system for a restaurant but what do I know? I doubt I'll be back, very disappointed in this level of service. Never had slow service in the old building, wondering how a new facility had an impact on the service level?? Very nice ambiance. Staff was very friendly. They were also soooo slooooow. Salads: we had the mixed green salad and the caeser salad. Both were great. Entrees: Idaho rainbow trout was done well but while the orzo was good, some of the vegetables were just sort of bland. A couple of our group had the New York Strip. Both people thought the cut was tough and bland. They would not recommend. Another had the salmon and that was very good. Dessert: I had the Pastel de Elote. It was great. It was the one thing that was picture worthy. The Sourdough chocolate cake was good but not sure that it was something that could be missed. Peach cobbler was also good. Service was slow. Only occasional check in after a dish was delivered. Frankly, I would rather eat at the Lakeside Bistro, not because the Lodge is bad, I just enjoy the bistro more overall if I am going to eat here at Black Butte ranch. The meal took about 90 minutes to complete from the time we sat down. We sat with all four of us being done for over 10 minutes and drinks gone before the server came to check on us and ask about interest in dessert. The food, service and setting are exceptional. The peach cobbler dessert is to die for.

We have the food so many tries because we really love the beautiful setting, but it's just a total waste. The final chance was the pork shank was clearly refrigerated and reheated because it was super cold. We have had family members that were sick after eating here before, and STILL gave them more chances ( also because you never know if it was from another meal ya know!?) so disappointing, because this place is beautiful and has potential... 3 stars because to get a drink in the lounge is a nice treat ( although food chunks in my wine glass/water glasses from poor cleaning is not great so hmm...) read more

When will Black Butte Ranch begin to take note of the Lodge Restaurant reviews? As homeowners, we have been waiting for 5 years (and a lodge rebuild) for the restaurant to improve. My husband and I returned for a meal last evening following a winter hiatus in sunny CAlifornia. Our hopes for improvement with new management were immediately dashed, as this 'upscale' restaurant choice at BBR is still very marginal at best. The view is great and the service is improved over last year, though the ambiance remains 'cafeteria-like', the menu is considerably over priced [for disappointing food], under inspired, and presented poorly. The Caesar salad was very plain and tasted prepackaged/premade, the cold celery soup of the day tasted OK but looked like simply a cup of milk in a bowl (parsley could help), the chicken looked pale as if not roasted, and the pork shank was tough and dry. BBR is a wonderful resort which is not capitalizing on the opportunity to build revenue with a good Lodge restaurant. Regretfully, I must suggest they need a new chef with inspired talents. One could overlook the high prices and not-very-intimate atmosphere if the food was really good, but it is not. The Bistro food is much better. We have high hopes for Robert's Pub which is not yet open for the season. We will not return to dining at the Lodge. read more

I would give the food and ambiance 5 stars, but service is 2 star. Coffee was flavorful and not bitter. They use quality ingredients that are beautifully arranged. The food all came out together and was hot. The service is 2 stars. They are very nice but so slow. The staff are helpful when they are there but they all disappear for long periods. I don't know where they are or what they are doing. Last time we got up to find our own salt and pepper. This time we got our own coffee refills. I would have chalked it up to a one time thing or learning curve BUT we had exactly the same experience last year and this year. read more

The Lodge Restaurant has really pulled things together! I came after they opened and decided to give them some time to get the kinks worked out. They have! My SO and I had 2 glass pour wines that were lovely and reasonably priced. We shared the fried oysters..they were crisp, not over fried, delicate and flavorful. Next we shared a beet/carrot salad..again, lovely! Not overcooked, flavorful and fresh. We shared a MR steak that was cooked to temperature, well seasoned and delightful. We will be back! read more

It's time for a new and recent review following the reopening of the resort restaurant (it's no longer a lodge). For those that are expecting the warmth and ambience of the former . . . you'll be disappointed. While the new is nice, its modernistic, and lacks the charm and "lodge-like" atmosphere we enjoyed over the past 40-50 years. It now feels more like a nightclub/bar with a dining area off to the side. Yes, the views are still there, but we have gone for the excellent dining options over the years, which now, are sadly inferior. Our meals were fair at best, with few choices, and quite expensive for what we got. Guests at the resort may find it a dining option . . . there aren't any other "dining" options, but I doubt local Central Oregon residents will choose to return for a nice sumptuous meal after their first visit. Our salad was leaf lettuce only, our meats were a bit tough, minimal finger potatoes grilled and grilled veggies like toothpicks. Go enjoy the view, but you may wish to review the menu before being seated. read more

I can only give a two star because the ambiance and view is paradise. But dinner was a huge disappointment. Whatever a strip loin steak is at $47 it was large but not one bite was tender enough to chew. 3/4 of the steak was left on the plate. What an amazing dinner we had at the Lodge! While we will always have wonderful memories of the old Lodge and it's "mountain lodge" vibe, the new Lodge is beautiful, and actually takes much better advantage of the incredible setting. The food was incredible. Steelhead, scallops, roasted chicken, pork chops--all among the best we've had anywhere. The blt salad was amazing. So was the skillet cookie to top off the meal. (The only thing I wish they'd done was to keep the sourdough chocolate cake from the old days. Hard for me to separate memories of the ranch from memories of that warm cake ala mode!) read more

We ordered 2 separate entrees fish and chips and Roast Marys chicken and a carrot and beet salad. The fish and chips was greasy and had more crust then fish. We eventually took off the crust to get small pieces of fish. The chicken sat in penne pasta with floating cheese sauce which made everything soggy. I would not recommend and it's pricy. read more

Although the new lodge restaurant is beautiful, they still have a learning curve when it comes to their service. We had a reservation for 7pm and came in at 5:30 to see if we could be seated earlier. The hostess told us it would be a 30-40 minute wait and suggested we go upstairs to enjoy the bar. An hour later we went down to check and was told that we wouldn't get seated until our original reservation time. We were disappointed that we had to wait around an extra hour and half. We should have just ordered and eaten up there as others did. Once downstairs, we had to explain what a vodka-cran was and we felt the halibut and ribeye were, well, bland. We never did get our bread. We ordered dessert and the cookie was warm and delicious, but that was the worst brownie ever!! We so wanted to like this new place, but in actuality, it came up short. read more

Amazing service, local fare and ambiance. Last night's dinner at Black Butte Ranch's Aspen Lounge was a perfect place to stop on our way home from the Redmond Airport. We didn't have a reservation but knew we could likely get a table upstairs from the Lodge Restaurant, and we were lucky to arrive in time to watch a beautiful sunset over Mt. Washington while being served handcrafted cocktails before dinner. Our server, Dawn, was excellent and suggested the summer favorite cocktails (we had the "Par 5" - vodka, lemon, grapefruit & St. Germain, which was refreshing and outstanding), a shared caesar salad with homemade croutons, (which our server kindly offered to split), and entree choices (Lounge Burger and the NW Trout) from the Aspen Lounge menu as well as the Lodge menu respectively. We found everything presented and prepared nicely and decided to take Dawn's suggestion for the latest dessert addition (15 layered crépe torte with fresh berry sauce), which got raves. Both the Lodge Restaurant and Aspen Lounge offer great food and their service was spot on. We look forward to returning and bringing friends. Breakfast and lunch at the Lodge Restaurant are also very good! This is a favorite spot not to be missed! read more

What great dinners we have each and every time we eat at the Lodge. The setting and view is lovely whatever time of year it is. The menu changes seasonally which is nice. We had rib steaks the last time we were there. All 3 were cooked perfectly. Tracy was our server for the second time and she even remembered the wine we preferred! And look how she decorated our doggie boxes that contained a couple bites of steak for our pups. She's terrific! read more

Had a strange experience at this restaurant tonight. We were seated outdoors on patio. Busboy served us bread and water, and then we waited. Waiter came and went for a good 20 minutes. Never stopped by her table or acknowledged us sitting there, we felt invisible. He had three other tables he was very engaged with. We decided if no service in the next few minutes we would leave which we did. On our way out we asked the hostess if we could speak to the Manager.... After a few minutes she said she didn't know where he was?!????! Hopefully this is all just coming out of Covid and everyone is getting their act together but we just thought it was a sad commentary on such a nice beautiful spot. The views are gorgeous, the day was lovely, unfortunately we never got to taste the food although the bread was good. You might try the restaurant - I hope your experience is better than ours...we may return but probably not for a long time read more

The Malt Waffle: the waffle itself was fine. The accompanying hazelnut butter was creamy and nutty, in a understated way. It also comes with strawberries which were fresh and tasty. The maple syrup was excellent. I also highly recommend the bacon which struck the perfect balance between crispy and chewy. The consensus at the table was that the egg dishes were better than the waffles/pancakes. read more

Our dinner last week was quite good and the service was excellent, but we left a review stating a couple of opportunities for improvement: one of our steaks was overdone, and the soup came out tepid instead of hot-- twice. :-) Not enough to ruin our evening, but we know this restaurant has done better in the past. I received a call back from Greg, the Operations Manager, who asked detailed questions about what we had expected from our meal and how it missed the mark. He understood exactly what we were looking for, agreed that they could do better, and offered to personally book us for a repeat visit (and even a bit of a comp). *THIS* is what separates a good restaurant from a great one. Thanks Greg! Happy to support Black Butte Lodge and your team's efforts, and will always recommend you very highly! I have been coming here for over 20 years and we always have dinner one night at The Lodge. Best part about this place is the view!! Spectacular. The food on the other hand is.... well... hit or miss. I recently went there and had the Scallops and Linguini. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the linguini was also great, but they added some other stuff in there that didn't go with the dish at all. I can't even tell you what it was so that you can avoid it. But it wasn't necessary and the portion was tiny. It was a good dish but I think the Chef is trying to get too fancy. My Fiancee had the Hen and liked it. It was a little messy to eat (they literally give you the whole hen) but the meat was tender and juicy! Best meal at the table. My Dad had the flat iron steak and it was brought out well done, even though he ordered it medium. He didn't want to send the meal back and tried to get through it, but it was too tough to eat the whole thing. The last dish we ordered was the duck. Perfectly cooked but also the meal itself was a small portion. The food was good. Wayyyy over-priced and small portion size. The view is spectacular. Price-less. But The Lodge is getting too fancy for its own good in my opinion. The service was good, no complaints there, and they were nice enough to bring me, my Fiancee, and my Aunt all a b-day dessert even though it was only my actual birthday. And lastly, I can't leave off the fudge at the end of dinner. I can remember as a child waiting for the fudge and I am so happy that they continue this tradition. I love Black Butte and will probably still come back to The Lodge for dinner, but I am hoping that for the price of the food I get an amazing meal.... not a 3 star meal! read more

Update: Greg invited us back with the promise of a dramatic change in our dining experience. Although Greg couldn't be there the evening we rescheduled, we enjoyed a dramatically different experience from the one in August. Michael was our server and the next time we go back, we will request to be seated in his station. He was friendly, attentive and an all around nice guy. We started with the shrimp and crabcakes, they were super yummy with an aoli. Our meal was so much better than before, my husband had the Prime Ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. I had the diver scallops, they were just right. Everything about the evening was as we were hoping. Michael was an excellent server who gave our party of 11 and enjoyable evening of delicious food and expert service. Knowledgeable and witty, Michael helped us choose excellent food that each of us was pleased with. Food was brought in a timely manner and wine pairings were well considered. At the end, Michael arranged a group photograph of our three different families having a great time together. The setting is spectacular with floor to ceiling windows that look out onto the famous BBR meadow ringed by three volcanoes. I had the king salmon, which was expertly prepared. It was an ample portion, and after a full day of skiing, I appreciated the big plate of deliciousness. read more
