The Lockview is located very close to the Akron Civic Theater so a perfect spot for having dinner before going to a show. My friends and I had a table on the terrace which was a very nice spot except for the blaring music. We couldn't have a conversation because the music was so loud. We, and a table next to us, asked for the music to be turned down a bit but it did not change. We arrived a little before 6 and our show was at 7:30 so we thought we had plenty of time to have a nice dinner before walking over to the theater. Apparently, the restaurant didn't anticipate the amount of theater goers because the terrace was packed with only one server. Unfortunately, I cannot review the food as at 7:15 our order was just coming out but we had no time to eat it (although we did manage to get our appetizer of tater tots which were very good). We paid for our drinks and tots and left. Other tables that had come in behind us were abandoning their orders as well in order to not be late to the show. I felt bad for the server as she did as best as she could, but management dropped the ball on this one. This was my first time there and I may try it again but definitely not on a theater night. read more

It's 65 degrees and sunny on a beautiful Akron evening on one of my closest friends birthday. And on this special day, out of all the restaurants in the city of Akron he chose the lockview to share his special day with. With a party of 11 plus a baby we waited 30 minutes to be seated. Which is to be expected. Being greeted by who I thought was a nice and great server, which I later learn I was wrong..... Waiting 40 minutes our food finally arrives and to my amazement only five plates out of 11 plates are made. After informing our sever "Taylor" of this issue. She informed us that there was "something wrong with our fries"..... Confusing right.... I was too believe me. So after an hour of still no sight of the other plates. "Taylor " informed us that there are 20 other tickets waiting in front of ours. So as other servers are bringing "Grilled Cheeses" to other customers we are being completely ignored. Never had such a horrible experience and felt bad for my friends birthday with his friends and family. When we brought this to the manager we still had to pay for cold food of the people who decided to wait for the other plates and and half of our drinks. If you come here with a party and get a server named Taylor. Ask for another person immediately because it's obvious she is only there to pick up a tip. And in spirt her is one for you Taylor... We gave this place a second chance after our food was cold our first visit. Their fried sides and apps, Mac and cheese bites, potato croquettes, tater tots, are very good and we enjoy that all of the staff is attentive and extremely knowledgeable about the beers they serve. Their sandwiches could use some chef review. I got a bacon Apple cheddar sandwich. It was nothing above what I could make at home. It comes with a mushy red apple, whereas a crisp green apple might help it out some. Other sandwiches have a disproportionate amount of ingredients. A hefty spread of cream cheese with a skimpy amount of other ingredients to help it out. This place is a great alternative to usual burgers and wings bar food. A few turn offs are that its hard to get seated if the place is full. The host had no idea how long we might wait and wrote down everyone's name and number of persons wrong, in addition to having no where to wait. It's extremely loud in here and they don't offer dessert except for a dressed up pop tart. read more

I heard about this place from a friend of a friend, you gotta love facebook, but when someone mentions cheese that gets my attention. Last night was the night to check this place out. While a number of years ago going into a bar to eat would have been normal, this is not who I am today. The term bar is a very vague, and you don't know what you are getting into until you step into the door. But this place was very welcoming, and well staffed with a diverse group thats know its product and the extensive beer selection, but i'm here for the Grilled cheese and this place has 12 different ones to choose from. My wife and I showed up on on a friday night and after we were seated we ordered a tea and diet Coke then we looked over the appetizers and decided on the 3 cheese quesadilla. When this arrives and it has so much cheese that it spills out while it is being fried and you get that crusty browned cheese all around the outside you know it is going to be good. My wife and I decided to choose 2 diffrent sandwiches and split them and choose the #3 and the #12. The #3 had pepperjack cheese, sliced sauteed jalapenos on a cheddar cheese sourdough. Served with a bleu cheese dressing this was an amazing combination of flavors, and I would highly recommend this sandwich to anyone who is a pepperjack fan. The #12 is served with american cheese, a layer of garlic mashed potatoes on Texas toast and a side of bourbon gravy for dipping. This is a solid sandwich and the potatoes and gravy make this a unique and enjoyable choice for your first stop here. I will be back. read more

So I've returned several times for lunch to The Lockview. It is a nice spot to relax and grab a beer for lunch during a hectic week. The different grilled cheese sandwiches are typically very good, but there is some variance in the amount of cheese and fillings from day to day. I'm not sure if this is by design or due to different cooks on different days? Most recently I had a #4, which contains mozzarella, tomato pesto, and arugula (did I mention that I love arugula?). The flavors meld together nicely and there was sufficient pesto and arugula to provide zip to the sandwich such that the bread did not overwhelm the sandwich. I've gone with both the sweet potatoe fries and the tator tots for sides, both of which have been outstanding. Did I mention the ever changing list of beers? The beers change for the season; I had Bell's Winter White Ale, which is similar to a Belgium White. It is a light winter beer that matches well with a grilled cheese sandwich. Great beer list and excellent grilled cheeses, but plan to wait a little while. It's not always the quickest, but if you set the time aside the food is awesome and the portions are reasonable (unlike some other locally famous grilled cheese joints, where I can't even put a dent in my plate). I thought I had pulled the short straw when I was assigned to work in Akron, OH, but it was totally worth it - thanks to the Lockview! I swing by here every time I'm in the area. The gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches are AWESOME. And there's a lot of variety (~14 sandwiches) - you can order a different grilled cheese every time and never get tired of them. The beer selection is excellent - possibly the best in Ohio. And the secret ingredient that makes this one of my favorite restaurants in the nation is the sweet potato fries. Seriously, if you haven't had the Lockview's sweet potato fries, you have no idea what you're missing. read more

Never again will I go here. Having had good experiences on prior visits I brought three friends there to eat during the recent Akron Marathon weekend. The place was busy and we all were willing to expect some delay in service. The issue here was the immature and rude behavior of our waiter. The story is long and ridiculous. In summary we left with our food in to go containers never even getting our appetizers. We waited for over an hour and a half never having our waiter come by. We watched others seated much later get their orders taken delivered and eaten while we waited. Having to get the manager to check on our food, subsequently being told that our order was lost. During our wait for the much delayed food the waiter showed back up asking us to pay the bill he had brought for appetizers we never got! When we told him the manager was in the back putting together our order which had been comped as an apology, he tried to get us to leave the table. At that time the restaurant was less than half full and no one was waiting to come in! When we explained again that we were waiting for our food he stormed off returning later with our food in a large bag which he tossed at the table and stormed off. His actions and his alone are why none of us will ever go back. read more

HORRIBLE SERVICE. Went in around 400 on a Friday. Walked past staff who didn't acknowledge our presence and had to track down a server to ask her where we should sit. Sat drink less for a very long time. Got the #2, which for being a grilled cheese place, the sandwich had very little cheese. VERY POOR SERVICE. Asked for a drink and had to go to the bar to remind the waitress after finishing the meal with no drink refill. The staff need a dress code b/c one girl was dressed like Peter Pan with suspenders and a hat with a feather and fanny pack, and another server had on a skirt that looked like pajama pants. Other kitchen staff sat a table located across from ours and talked loudly and had the silverware caddy out on the table the whole time which I'm sure is some health code violation. The menu attracted us to this place, but unfortunately we never got the chance to try anything. We were seated right away on a Tuesday evening and we ordered our grilled cheese sandwiches, which you think wouldn't take that long to make. We learned very quickly that is does take a very long time to make a grilled cheese because 50 minutes later we still didn't have our food. We told our waitress that we had a concert we had to attend and were limited in time and she told us that it would out in 30 minutes tops. We ended up having to walk out hungry just so we could attend the concert. So this might be a good place for food, but you have to be willing to be very patient and wait for it. It was sad to see how ragged those waitresses were running because the place was understaffed for the amount of customers. I have been here three times and we have been disappointed by the lack of vegetables and/ or cheese in the sandwiches. The #9 had just one small piece of mushroom and red pepper with sufficient cheese. The #13 : Hardly any Havarti Dill Cheese topped with very small amount artichoke. The sandwiches look nothing like the pictures on website. Great beer,bar, amosphere and location for Loc 3 and Civic events but there are better dining choices. read more

Visited The Lockview for the second time in as many years with my girlfriend tonight. Overall, it was a satisfactory experience. The food and beer was great and at a decent price. However, the one negative was that they chose to ID my girlfriend not once, not twice but three times. When she purchased the sangria, she was ID'ed by our waitress (completely understandable). The drink was delivered by the patio bartender and she was then ID'ed again. When the bartender looked at the Ohio ID, she seemed to not believe it and asked for the manager to come up and check it as well. The manager checked and immediately realized that it was clearly authentic and gave us a free appetizer in return due to the trouble. If a bartender cannot either count the number of years to see if someone is 21 or cannot tell what a real or fake ID looks like, she is likely not in the right profession. Other than that hiccup, it was a nice dinner and would consider returning again in the future. read more

Miserable service and poor treatment by our rude waiter. It doesn't matter if the food is tasty, because you'll starve before you get to eat it. Definitely will NOT be dining here again. I went to the Lockview after running the Akron marathon so I was starving and ready for a beer. I expected it to be busy and was pleasantly surprised that my party of 4 was seated quickly. After a short wait, we ordered beers, appetizers and grilled cheese sandwiches. The beers came quick enough but by the time we finished them, we still hadn't seen our appetizers (fried pepperoni and tater tots) or our waiter at our table. We'd been sitting for an hour so we flagged him down and asked what the holdup was and were told that everything was backed up and busy, there was only one cook in the back, and even our waiter was helping to cook. He offered us soup while we waited. We declined, and asked that the appetizers we ordered be brought out. Another half hour went by, during which we got to watch people who were seated after us enjoy their food, so we flagged down someone who seemed to be a manager and asked her to find out when, and if, we'd get our food as we were running out of time. After a few minutes, she returned telling us that our order had essentially gotten lost, our food would be comped (which we appreciated very much), and would we like soup while we waited. Again, we declined, and asked that our food be boxed up as we had to leave. A bill was brought for the beer - which we paid, and another was brought for our appetizers. We informed the waiter that we were told our food would be comped and having not seen any appetizers, we weren't paying for them. This clearly upset our waiter who promptly told us that we'd have to give up our table. So now, we weren't even able to sit in a half-empty restaurant while we waited for our boxed up food. We stayed put anyway. Our sandwiches were delivered to us by our ticked off waiter who dropped the bag on the table and walked off without a word or a glance. True to form, the fried pepperoni and tater tots weren't even in the bag. The grilled cheese sandwiches were just OK. There are far better places to eat in Akron and in the future they will receive my patronage read more
