I've been to the local cow oncemaybe a year ago, but I went there again tonight with my friend and we had such a good experience. Our server was so nice (I wish I had her name, she was the young blonde girl), and the food was excellent. We ordered the taco salad and a burger w/cow fries (SO GOOD). Portion sizes are huge, it was so much food we both had leftovers. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for incredible food/service. Update: Came here again for lunch and the El Chupacabra burger was the BEST burger I've ever had! Our server was excellent again (I believe it was the same gal as last time, but I got her name this time from the receipt) it was "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" (clever haha) she has such great customer service! I'd assume most people have but I believe it's only here because it's been here. You could find a more unique burger (cooked correctly and more quickly) then the Local Cow could provide. You won't find any sacred cows here, but we did manage to find something on the menu that was vegetarian, nonetheless. That, in itself seemed sacrilegious since this place worships the meat in a different way. Speaking of meat, they use local meats out of Eugene with minimal processing to boot and are part of the ONM program. You will also find pork on the menu as well. They spent a great deal of time getting this restaurant ready and they did it right by using things like reclaimed barn wood siding and other reclaimed wood. The decor is very modern and playful at the same time. We ordered the "Portlandia". Hey, I did not name it. I think they should have called it "The Sacred Cow" but I digress. We also got a side of fries as well as chips and guacamole. I noticed that they had some items on the whiteboard and found out they were for adding on to my sandwich. I had crispy basil on top of my black bean/quinoa quacamole slider. These folks know how to spice things up and I'm not talking about heat. There were some great flavors in the black bean burger. Some places that cater to the meat loving crowd will usually leave the vegetarian to just chomping on some grass, but not this restaurant. They just added a delicious and nutritious item to their menu for us veggie loving folks. Their fries were just popping full of rosemary, garlic and parmesan. I ate too many of them. The chips were pita and were big and crispy. The guacamole was the real deal. They also serve brews and wine to help those sliders go down even better. We came here about six months ago to try this place and we weren't impressed by any stretch. We came back with some friends a second time because we were already bowling around the corner on a groupon and needed a reasonably priced place to drop in. Claire and I ordered and split the Pendleton (as a general rule, we don't eat entire burgers to ourselves), and it was pretty sinfully delicious. The barbeque sauce that finishes this burger is not overwhelming and doesn't at all cancel out the delicious flavor of the crispy onions and the savory beef. This burger made me miss being a total carnivore. I'm glad I got a taste of it! I love my veggies and my vegan stables, but once in a while I'm a real sucker for a good burger. Oh, and that's another option here by the way! You can order their black bean burger. Had I been eating this by myself that's likely what I'd have ordered, but as Claire was suggesting "No, really babe, it's okay. We'll split the black bean burger." I could detect tears welling in her eyes. Glad we tried the Pendleton. Somebody at a neighboring table decided, after ordering, that they wanted to cancel their order of parmesan fries, so the very kind waitress offered them to us free of charge because they'd already been made. Delicious! I'm really very glad we gave this place a second chance. I think we're just extremely critical of burgers after going to Dick's Kitchen for so long. This place holds it's own though and I'm looking forward to trying more menu items. Mmmmmmm.....burgers. Fresh, local burgers. I had the Best Coast burger. It is an organic beef patty from Oregon. It was so juicy there was burger juice running down my arm. The Best Coast Burger is topped with bacon, Tillamook Swiss cheese, and guacamole. The bacon was crisp perfection! 2 slices of bacon adorned this burger, crisped to perfection without being burnt and/or overdone. Nice melty cheese, there is nothing more to say about Tillamook cheese, and a scoop of fresh guacamole. The bun is brioche, toasted and lightly coated with mayonnaise. It was awesome. I went for the standard side of Tim's chips, wanting to focus most on the burger and not be distracted with fries. Note previous reviews about small burgers in comparison to other burger joints. The menu says it's a quarter pound patty. I was full when we left, full and satisfied, not stuffed and uncomfortable. I was satisfied with the burger size. My other half had the Hawaii 503 burger. It is served on the brioche bun as well and topped with teriyaki glaze, pineapple, tillamook Swiss cheese and mango salsa. He really enjoyed it. Super juicy from the patty and from the mango salsa and pineapple. He enjoyed it immensely. He had fries with his burger and thought they were a bit too greasy for him, but he managed to eat it all anyway. Service was quick and friendly, gave us plenty of time to make our choice of burgers. This place is legit...and it's in Gresham of all places! FINALLY the town I grew up in has some decent places to eat! Aside from the horrendous wait, the burgers here are some of the best I've had and it's well worth the trip. My Loveitt burger consisted of Bacon, Fried Egg, Ham, cheese, and I added grilled onion and jalapenos. Add on their special sauce and you are in heaven. Plus, their fries are freshly made and great tasting as well. Local beers on the menu and plenty of options. This place was certainly crowded on the weekend and it took some time to get seated...even with a few tables open. As I assume everything is made to order it also takes a bit of time to get your food. From time I wrote my name down to time I left, it was nearly an hour and a half. Definitely can't be in a rush! Good burgers and fries with a brewhouse nextdoor. What more can you ask for? Sit on the patio between the two and have a Local Cow burger and fries and a couple craft beers from the Hoppy Brewer ... HOOAH! I had a cheeseburger ($7.50) with bacon ($2) and sauteed onions ($1) for a total of $10.50. It came with fries which were paltry and uninspiring. My friends had a burger and Mount Hood Wedge ($9) and we got some beers from the adjacent Hoppy Brewer. My burger was good, but at 1/3 pound, not particularly overwhelming and the fries were few and far between, closer to a garnish than a side. $9 for a wedge of iceberg lettuce with some cherry tomatoes, bacon bits, and balsamic vinaigrette was a tad excessive and would have been a much better value in the $5 range. The Hoppy Brewer had some nice drafts, but the Porter from the fridge at less than $5 a pint was awesome and $5 well spent. I might have jumped the gun with my initial review. I think it was mostly due to the business closing early. I decided to go back a few days later and boy I'm so glad that I did. I enjoyed every single bite of food that night. I went with a few friends from out of town who love burgers. I think we all had different ideas of what we wanted in our burger. I had the sliders, topped with bacon, Tillamook cheese and avocado. The sliders were cooked to perfection and had just the right amount of seasoning in the patties. I was a little disappointed when I realized my basket was empty because I had eaten them so fast. I was almost tempted to order another round. The others ordered the Rockwood and Hung Far Lo burger. They looked equally tasty. The best part of the meal were the fries. I'm not sure what was sprinkled on them or what they were cooked in, but I do know that I murdered them like no-body's business. We chose outside seating because it was too nice of a night to be couped up inside. From the outside you could see the inner workings of the entire place. Well I had the Fort Stevens with chips and an Iced Tea with lemon. Service was good. The iced tea was average, lemon was a ring instead of a wedge. Now the burger, it was a bleu cheese bacon mushroom burger, and it was really good, the bacon was thick cut, the mushrooms were well done and the bleu cheese was of a high quality and they didn't skimp. The beef was tasty and their brioche bun while tasty is up to the job of holding the mess together without being tough or chewy. The potato chips are ok, salting them fresh out of the dryer would help immensely. All in all nothing here that will leave you jaw dropping amazed but it won't leave you disappointed and is good value for the price. They have a good location in downtown Gresham with lots of foot traffic, but no signage. I had to look for this place to find it. Inside was a simple sort of rustic atmosphere which made me feel welcome. However, we weren't greeted right away and with no sign telling us what to do, we weren't sure if we could find a seat ourselves or if we needed to wait. We were brought small cups of water and had a nice waitress. Their menu isn't huge, but is big enough to give you some options. Just don't expect much else other than a burger. I love the fact that they use fresh local ingredients and beef from local cows (hence the name). But after getting my burger and fries, I was disappointed. The patty was smaller than expected and for a place banking on the quality of their beef, the meat itself was overshadowed by toppings. Their flavor combinations sounded great on the menu but it was a bit of a letdown when I actually ate it. I ordered cajun fries to go along with my burger, and those were okay. Not great, but not bad. I also found it weird that I had to substitute chips for fries. Why wouldn't a burger restaurant automatically serve fries with a burger? I would've been fine with the mediocre meal if the price matched what we got. For my wife and I to eat a burger each and split a lemonade, it was $20.50 before tip. I understand that fresh local ingredients can cost more (see Burgerville), and I'd be willing to pay for that if I got my money's worth. But at the end of the day, the product did not justify the price. Especially when my food comes in a plastic basket with paper lining. If you're looking to go somewhere a little different in a town that doesn't offer many options, I'd say it's worth a try. It was the special when I visited and for $9 I got this delicious burger and a side of fries. The burger had pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and whole grain mustard. An interesting combination of flavors on a burger for sure, but together they will take your taste buds to Xanadu.
