    Steak and potatoes

Very small restaurant (about 6 tables if I remember right), so book ahead! Don't be fooled by the size though, this place is a gem. We came here to celebrate and got the tomato soup to start. SO good, especially the homemade croutons, absolutely packed with flavor. The steak was also excellent, more "medium" than the "medium rare" we were told. It could have used some vegetables, which we ended up ordering as a side for the table. I got the chocolate creme for dessert, which was a kind of rich heavy custard. Also very good though I would have liked less sugar and more dark chocolate flavor, but I realize I'm probably in the minority on that one.

Went here for a date night and was not disappointed! Quaint menu but excellent, fresh dishes. Service was great. Loved the crab bites and the mushroom toast, which had a cream cheese type spread on it, super tasty. The duck was also excellent and they modified it so I could have mashed potatoes rather than french fries. Spaghetti squash was a special and actually my favorite thing on the menu, absolutely delicious! We were stuffed by the end. Parking lot close by right down the street to make things easier. Would come back!

Wow....a cool little French spot in Haddonfield. I saw great things about Little Hen and decided to check it out. The servers are super friendly and fast so you'll enjoy the atmosphere. Since it's BYOB, I brought a nice bottle of Dry Riesling which paired nicely with my meal. To start, I got an order of the deviled eggs with trout roe. Presentation was simple yet elegant. I wouldn't say they were the best deviled eggs I've ever had but they were pretty good. For my main course, I opted for the vegetable du jour, which was brussel sprouts, and the duck frites. The brussel sprouts were executed well with a nice crisp exterior. They were sautéed with shallots which added great flavor. The portion was ample as well. The duck was fantastic. The meat was so tender and juicy with the perfect amount of fattiness - not too much but just enough to give it great flavor. The fries were pretty standard but provided a nice crunchy texture contrast to dip into the duck drippings. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal at Little Hen. The prices are on the higher side but you get quality food and great service. I can't wait to go back!

Outstanding restaurant in downtown Haddonfield. Came here for the first time on a Saturday night to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday, and the entire experience was perfect from start to finish and truly exceeded our expectations. The whole place is tiny; there is only enough room for six tables inside, but this makes it cozy and intimate. The view of the cooks working with smells wafting over the dining area make it even better. Our server was Will who looked like he was about 16 but he was amazing. Quick, efficient, professional, and kind. The real star of the evening is the food, of course. We had the chicken liver mousse and tomato soup with shrimp and tarragon as starters, and we each had the duck frites as an entree. My girlfriend has spent a lot of time in France and she was in heaven. I'm no expert in French cuisine but everything I tasted was melt-in-your-mouth exquisite. Rich, decadent flavors in everything. We were there for an hour and a half so it was nice to not be rushed and take our time with a perfect dining experience. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a next level dinner.

We had such a great experience for our first meal at The Little Hen! For how small and quaint a restaurant it is, I was very happy at how easy it was to get a reservation on a Friday night! Of all the things we ordered, the potato leek soup was an amazing starter and so flavorful! I'd also order the escargot again--it was definitely the best I've had in a while. Both of our entrees were delicious and I'd order the duck frites or chicken coq au vin again. And lastly for dessert, I would eat the crème brûlée every time I visit!

Finally made it to the Little Hen on a freezing cold Saturday night in March. First, it was great to have an almost normal dining experience in endemic era COVID. I sure hope it stays this way. The Little Hen is small. It holds 20 patrons at most. The staff is extremely good, knowledgeable and thorough. The menu is also small, which is OK with me. The Little Hen is also BYOB as Haddonfield is a blue town. There is street parking and also a public lot nearby. There are only 4 mains plus one special on the menu. What we ordered: Escargots Salade D'Autome Cauliflower Au Gratin Steak Moutard Chicken Breast Coq Au Vin Skate Wing Everything was very, very good! We enjoyed the appetizers, well our party did order Escargots, or snails are not my thing, but the salad was quite good. The Coq Au Vin was unbelievably tender and juicy. The steak was excellent. The Skate wing had a slight sweet and salty flavor profile and was light but filling. Anything Au Gratin and with butter is good with me, even with Cauliflower. Overall, it was a great dinner and we really enjoyed ourselves. I much prefer this type of French Bistro style food over French Haute cuisine. I highly recommend this restaurant and so glad to have this nearby. Little Hen will really feel like Europe when it is warm enough in the coming months to dine outside.

Best meal of 2020 I've been trying to get here, or their Two Fish location for 2 years now. Something always came up or a different restaurant was chosen. But I didn't lose sight of these gems. When the lockdown ended the Hen reopened quickly, I hadn't even known that the fish just reopened 2 weeks ago( but now that I do I'm obsessed with getting there soon too) We had a 5 pm reservation on a mild summer night. In retrospect a later time would have avoided the pesky sun, but that was easy to overlook with the incredible food we were served. For apps we selected the escargot and scallops. I may have mumbled so was brought out the duck app first. I knew right away this was not the scallops, we were kindly offered to enjoy it anyway. I have to say this was a lucky mistake, this was one of the best things I've ever eaten. The scallops were good as well, but the Florida specimens could have been improved upon with something more local and/or from colder waters. The snails were plump and tasty in their herby and buttery sauce, possibly the best either of us have had. But let's get back to the duck.... this was a crepe stuffed with duck confit, pickled peppers and red onions with an incredible cheesy sauce. Each component could be tasted but as a whole melded into something greater than the sum of its parts. For entrees we had the skate and also the roast pork. The fish was perfectly prepared, and served with pickled pearl onions( these provided a nice acidic pop) and spinach barley that was a good contrast to the rich skate. My entree was the pork and it was possibly the best one I've had. The perfectly cooked meat was served on real dirty rice, and topped with a summer corn relish. Again, every component was perfectly seasoned and cooked. This was an iconic summer dish. We ordered sides of cauliflower and haricot verts. The cheese sauce was amazing in the first, the beans were cooked to perfection with only onions as a companion, but this still produced another best ever veggie. For dessert I acquiesced to the crepe cake( I wanted to try the chocolat) and once again was blown away by the simple elegance and taste. Service was perfect as well and I believe our waitress was also the owner. I look forward to returning when indoor dining is able to resume. I'm thinking steak next time, a table near us ordered it and even though I was pleasantly stuffed by then, it smelled amazing and was causing my hunger to return. I can only imagine how good those frites must have been. One last thought: this is the place to bring those better wines you've been saving for a special occasion. Lastly a shout out goes to Alanna B who is a regular at both locations. What a great recommendation!!!

*Disclaimer: this dining experience took place during Haddonfield Restaurant Week* Vibes: small, no-frills French BYOB, best for a date night Tasting notes: -Bone marrow: very generous portion with a small spoon provided to scoop the buttery goodness on to the toasted baguette slices; loved the crispy, garlicky, very aromatic gremolata crumb layer -Duck confit: fork-tender meat with a light crispy skin; the sweetness, though noticeable upon the bite, does not saturate or overpower the flavor of the duck; lentils were firm and well-cooked -Chocolate pot de creme: served in a surprisingly large jar with about a fifth full with airy whipped cream; richly chocolate in flavor; pleasantly dense and smooth with just a bit of fluffiness with each spoonful Other thoughts: -Friendly, attentive service: as soon as we walked in, even though our table wasn't quite ready, the hostess offered to chill our bottle of Prosecco -Appreciate the filling portion sizes that's uncommonly seen with French restaurants -Would absolutely recommend and come back for the bone marrow and pot de creme!

First time trying French cuisine and it was absolutely amazing !!! Ambiance was cute, cozy, and comfortable. Our waiter Kyle was amazing !!! He gave us the low down on the menu and we took some of his ordering advice. He suggested the radishes, eggs, and mushroom toast as starters. Then we had the duck frites and the scallops accompanied by the carrots and the Brussel sprouts special, both were to die for!!! This was my first time having duck and it was outstanding !!! Moist, tender and simply cooked to perfection. The scallops were also delicious, cooked and seared to perfection. We ended the meal with pumpkin crème Brûlée and french press coffee to top it off. The dessert was the perfect amount of pumpkin flavor and the coffee was fresh and hot!! Such a wonderful dinning experience and can't wait to come back !!!

Such a cute little restaurant. My teenage daughter wanted to try French food so we chose this place. We loved LOVED their deviled eggs OEUFS SUR OEUFS-the roe really made this delicious. So glad our server recommended it. The mushroom toast was good and the duck frite was really tasty. The servers were really nice and helpful. Also, it's a huge plus that it's a safe place for my kid with peanut and sesame seed allergies. Thanks for a great meal!

My wife again chose The Chop House for her birthday dinner celebration and for great reason! We came on her birthday, a Tuesday evening, for drinks and appetizers in the bar area. The gentleman working valet was very respectful and professional and while I can take or leave valet in most cases, he definitely added to the upscale experience of the entire night. Upon seating ourselves at a high-top, both bartenders on shift greeted us with huge smiles and very warm hello's. They are familiar faces to my wife's family and were genuinely happy to see us. Unfortunately, we learned my wife's family's favorite server, Debbie, recently retired but great for her! The bartenders were fabulous themselves. Service, personability, mixology skills were all top-notch. They fit the sophisticated vibe of the restaurant perfectly. We started with drinks of course! A Stoli Elit Martini with a twist, a Dirty Martini, an Apple Butter Old Fashioned, and a Tito's and Club. The drinks came out beautifully. Smooth, chilled. I ordered the Apple Butter Old Fashioned as I was intrigued, but skeptical. While I thought it was good, I'd prefer a regular or Smoked Old Fashioned to the Apple Butter. My wife loved it though. We ordered lots of food to split and each appetizer we picked was as good if not better than the next. The Tuna Nachos fresh and had a tropical, savory flavor with pineapple mixed in. The Kona Tips were tender, full of flavor coming from the Kona crust and sautéed mushrooms/onions, and were served in a skillet full of sauce perfect for soaking up with bread. I actually liked the Kona Tips appetizer more than I liked the Kona Crust I got on my NY Strip I ordered last year (the Strip was great I'd just prefer no Kona crust on the entree). The Flatbread De Jour was a Kona Tip flatbread, which you may call us crazy for ordering two Kona Tip inspired appetizers, but the Kona Tips are just that good. The Oysters we had were small (just how I like them) and were up there with the best Oysters I've had. We finished up with Fried Calamari. They were lightly battered, fried nicely, tender, and served over a bed of different hot peppers (when I say hot, I mean it!). Everything was delicious and there wasn't one appetizer we chose that I wouldn't order again or recommend to others. We did order a few more drinks throughout the night -- another Elit Martini and a Hendrix Martini with the appetizers and then Bailey's on the rocks and Frangelico on the rocks as after dinner, dessert drinks. We ordered a Brownie Sundae for the table for my wife's birthday while she was excused from the table and the bartender brought it out with a lit candle. The bartender also brought out a complementary miniature Crème Brûlée for my wife as she acknowledged The Chop House's Crème Brûlée as one of her favorites earlier in the night when we were talking about the menu. I thought the entire night went as good as you could have hoped. Valet, bar service, food, drinks, desserts, atmosphere. Everything was amazing and most importantly my wife had a great birthday. This is two years in a row we celebrated her birthday at The Chop House and I wouldn't mind seeing this turn into her birthday tradition.

It consisted of 4 cuts of steaks and my favorites were the filet and ribeye. They were seasoned perfectly and grilled medium rare. Our sides were mashed potatoes, CH hash browns, and grilled asparagus. The weakest link was the asparagus which were small in size but still tasty. I will definitely be back based on service, food and value. This is a perfect restaurant for celebrations, dates and casual dining. Definitely a gem of a restaurant. Will be back sooner than later.

First and foremost, our server was excellent. Polite and prompt, friendly, everything you want in a server. My problem was the food ... I ordered the halibut, asked my server about the "seasonal veggies" it comes with (she mentioned asparagus, okay good) because I do love veggies, but there are some I just really do not. Unfortunately, those exact veggies arrived on the plate, and my entree looked more like stir fry. I don't like onions or peppers ... and they were the base veggie of the dish. The menu describes the "sauce" as a lemon citronette, and this dish was not at all what I was expecting. It lacked flavor, there was no sauce, not a hint of lemon (I even squeezed some on there & it didnt help :( ) I can get past some vegetables I don't eat, just pushed them to the side, but the halibut was so so so incredibly dry. It wasn't soft, or flakey, or moist. (I hate that word but it was the best way to describe what it lacked) It was like cardboard. I was trying to choke it down because I too, had just worked a serving shift for Mothers Day, & it was the first thing I was eating all day. My husband mentioned something to the server because he knew I wouldn't haha, I don't like to be a pain customer or send things back. The bone-in filet mignon was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Nice charred crust on it and grill flavor. Didn't even need the trio butter we ordered. Brussel sprouts were delicious. We really enjoyed the Fleming potatoes reminded us of mac and cheese. We were given complimentary house made chocolate truffles as a parting gift.

This review covers a few visits. Happy hour, good deal, tasty food and drinks and pretty good…read moreservice, would recommend. Group event, went as part of a holiday party and the food, service and wine were all on point. This was a long happy hour not sit down so I cannot attest to a large group sit down dinner. Lastly dining in the main dining room, 6 people, Saturday night. Service was thin, read, our server was busy with a large group in the back and the neglect was evident. Now this doesn't mean the rest of the restaurant crew couldn't step in but really didn't. We were graced with a water refill once over the course of the dinner, although the friendly server who did pour the water said she walks around to fill water, she was never seen again. Our entrees were brought by a group of servers who disappeared after placement of the plates. So it would appear people were working they just seemed to ignore our table. Food was great, I wouldn't have gone if I didn't think the food was on par, but spending this kind of money you want a balance of service and food. You can see the accumulation of glasses that went on removed between wines. Now happy hour is discounted and you are at the bar so you get front and center service. Standing in the group room you are able to flag a server, sitting in the middle of the dining area and being largely ignored just rubs you the wrong way. I had two people ask why are you going to Flemings when I told them our plans. A competing steak house at the Cherry Hill Mall, we have attended many, many times without fail. You don't know how good you have it until you go someplace else and realize service is a lost art at some places. I am posting more for public service announcement, i would hope management reviews and tries to address this rather large service gap. I have never had this issue at the capital Grill, so it is disappointing to encounter it here, particularly when the food was on point.
