Service and Ambience were very good. The food not so much. I had the linguini with spinach and crab meat. The flavor was poor. Tasted like buttered noodles. The amount of spinach and crab was terrible. If i got 5-6 pieces of spinach and 1-1.5 oz crab meat that would be a lot. Have been here several times, mostly for special occasions, and it does not disappoint. Food is always delicious and after getting an appetizer, we almost always have left overs to take home. Tonight's meal was couple's night where we shared the bruschetta and the antipasto caprese board starters which were ESSENTIAL to get the flavors flowing early -- so divine. All three men ordered the classic vodka rigatoni and were pleasantly plump. What a wonderful find in Collingswood before a concert nearby. Found parking on the side street, large restaurant with lots of seating opportunties as it quickly filled up around 5:30-6pm for dinner. Our server, Samuel, needs a special shout out for his amazing service. Many good food options, very clean, good paced service, no rushing us out, good value and TASTY food. They also offered to split our dishes for sharing with no added charge. For this evening out we started with a mix (half & half Samuel called it) of their house soup as it was a chilly wet night. Next they spit the linguini frutta mare for us with a side dish of mixed sauted vegetables. I know this is long but please stick around until the end. The service was the worst part of this entire meal and it's at the end of the story. From what I've heard this place has really gone downhill. I came here with my boyfriend and his brothers to celebrate his birthday. I had never been there before but my boyfriend's family are Collingswood natives. They have been loyal customers to this restaurant for decades. Every family event is hosted here, so I had high hopes. From afar, everything looks great. Cute place, nice decor, and pleasant people seemingly enjoying their night. We waited a bit to be seated since we were a group of 5 which was no problem. The waiter came over and asked us for drink orders immediately upon sitting down. We ordered our drinks and got them in a timely manner. We were still waiting on one more person which I assume is why he didn't ask if we wanted to put in appetizers. Here's where the issues began. The last person arrived, our waiter took his drink order and then walked away and rolled his eyes. He brought the drink back fairly quickly and then disappeared. We tried to stop him to put in our app orders as we were hungry but he ignored us and walked away. He was gone for over 15 minutes. I'm sure he had other tables to tend to but to keep people waiting for over 15 minutes when we had already been there for a while was unacceptable. I made eye contact with him when I finally saw him to try to get him to come over to the table. He saw me immediately looked away and walked right past our table and into the kitchen. That would've been totally fine if he'd come out with food/drinks for another table but he didn't. He was empty handed. One more round of eye contact and he finally came over. Eventually we got our apps. Not once did the server come by and check on us or ask how the food came out. We finished, and then another 10 minutes later was when we ordered dinner. My boyfriend ordered the filet medium. It came raw. Not even medium rare. RAW. Again, the server never came and checked on us or asked us how the food came out. We couldn't even ask for anything different because we never even got the opportunity. Regardless, we finished with our meal and asked for the check. I left a tip out of sheer obligation. Out of a 270 dollar bill I left a GENEROUS $30 tip. And I mean generous. The worst part of it all was we hadn't even stood up to leave yet, and the server immediately came over and asked if he could take the check. The rudest thing I've ever experienced while dining at a "nice establishment". He should be ashamed. Not only did he immediately look down at the tip line, he ROLLED HIS EYES AGAIN. RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FACE then walked away. We were treated horribly the entire night. I'm not sure what he was expecting. I understand servers aren't paid well and a 20% tip is standard, but that is if you deliver good service. Every single time this man left our table we would get an eye roll. Absolutely despicable. Our family doesn't eat out much anymore in general. ($). When we do, we tend to stick to places and even particular meals that are consistently popular with the whole family. Villa Barone is a regular for us. Around once every month or so, we get a takeout family meal (rigatoni with vodka sauce). It's not surprising so much that it's delicious every time. What's amazing is that it's CONSISTENT every time. Like delicious in the same exact way every time. Having worked in the food service industry myself, I know how hard that is to achieve with changes in ingredients, prices, and staff, etc. The one factor I personally think allows VB to achieve this shocking level of consistency is that every time I go, the owner/manager is there. The restaurant clearly means a lot to them to not just put the whole place on autopilot and collect on their reputation/location alone and it really shows in the quality of the meals they reliably serve up. read more

On a recent visit back East, my wife and I met up with an old friend at Villa Barone. We have lived in the San Francisco area for 16 years, so you never know how your Jersey favorites fared after Covid. But I am here to tell you VB is as good as we remembered it: same Italian rustic decor, same 3 rooms and same down-home Italian goodness. I also forgot Collingswood is still dry (thank you Carl McIntyre), so I called first to see if anything had changed on the wine front - no - it's still BYOB. (As an aside, you can bring a bottle to CA restaurants but you'll pay a $25-$35 corkage fee.) I had forgotten how good the little bread puppies are; we made short work of them. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana. Which came with an ample side of pasta. My wife had chicken cutlets, which she used to get whenever we visited, and her friend got the same thing, again with plenty of pasta. It's good to know places don't change. They find a formula that works for them amd their customers and stick with it. That's Villa Barone. We will be back on our next visit. read more

We had calamari for appetizers, not over cooked and served with 2 dipping sauces; we enjoyed it. You got hot bread with a olive oil mix, it was sooo good! We had the shrimp and salmon dish which was a special of the night, the salmon melted in your mouth and the accompanying vegetables were nicely prepared, not over cooked. We wish they gave you more than 2 large shrimps, it was a delicious dish. We also had Penne Tartufo pasta dish, the portion was enough for leftovers...2 more meals. We ordered takeout last Wednesday evening, and the food was spot on! My husband loved the side of meatballs and had a chicken Parmesan entrée and it was perfect. This was our first dining experience in the strange new world of phase 2 New Jersey out door dining. Tables are set up outside on the sidewalk. There are no menus, the menu is download to a phone using a Quick Scan app and the phone's camera. Diners do not need to wear masks but if entering the building to use a washroom, a mask is required. Our server wore a mask at all times. I felt the protocol was very good at Villa Barone. I ordered the Tagliatelle Cacio e Pepe - traditional Roman pasta with a creamy romano cheese sauce and fresh ground black pepper. They add lemon zest and fresh arugula. I liked this dish. The pasta was home made and the cream sauce was not overly heavy. The pepper gave the dish flavor. My wife had the salmon special with crabmeat. This was also very good. Service was great all night, 5 stars for that aspect. It was a beautiful warm evening and I really enjoyed eating out again. We have to support these local businesses as best we can. read more

Our server, Angela, was a phenomenal-she was friendly, knowledgeable, and when we had a special request, she talked to the cooks and made it happen-we commented that we were impressed that she could converse in Spanish when needed and she explained she had minored in Spanish in college. My friend ordered the filet special with crab meat and Gorgonzola cream sauce and I had the eggplant rollatini-good sized portions and very tasty! Astronomical prices for okay Italian food. We went here for Mother's Day lunch hoping to have a relatively light meal at noon, only to find that they took the pizza off of the menu (one of the biggest appeals of this place.... I mean, it's known for the brick oven...), all of the salads, and anything lunchy and replaced it with whole dinner entrees that were also up charged 10$ a piece. The service was ridiculously slow even with the smaller menu, and there was barely anyone in the restaurant too. I literally just went to parc and spent less money on a dinner with the same number of people, with cocktails. Ridiculous. One good thing I'll give them is they did refund me when I realized on the road that I had tipped on top of an auto gratuity, which was sweet. read more
