Beautiful view from the front and we loved the village of Alma. Location to Fundy National Park (literal minutes), Hopewell Rocks (30 minutes) and the restaurants/brewery of Alma (5 minute walk) made it ideal for exploring the area. Very nice to have it be dog friendly- the dog would've loved to spend the whole trip laying outside, watching the ride and the village. Would definitely come back and stay longer in the future- kitchen set up made it possible to prepare food. Great price- four adults loved our stay!

We were in the third cottage, where electricity main entered our building and a massive electrical main situated in the lower bedroom. No other cottages had this, which suggests that underground wiring supports the others. The cottages are cozy and we opted for the lower bedroom as it is closest to the only bathroom. Our cottage could use some work but given the late season visit and the lack of options, it was perfect. The owners were also quite nice. Like I said, it's quaint but it's a good spot to rest your head and watch the tides from a ridge. Oh, they have wifi. It's not advertised on their website so do ask.

LOVE love LOVED the Planter's Barracks Bed & Breakfast. From the lovely and informative manager,…read moreErin, to the doll of a housekeeper, Bee, this place was a hit from start to finish! Originally Fort Hughes, the barracks were built in 1778 as rest quarters for the military during the war. Although we visited in the fall (late October) and it was far too cold to enjoy the yard, fire pit, or deck - the grounds are absolutely beautiful. There are six suites here each with a private washroom and shower or tub. Every room has a different feel with a slightly different layout. Each room has an electric fireplace fit into where the original fireplaces were. Of course there are some odd nuances here like sloping or creaky floors - however, I love it all! Erin is a gem! She's bursting with knowledge and history on the barracks as well as the local area. Ask her for a suggestion or idea, she won't let you down! Um and hello, how did I almost forget the amazing food?!?! With a focus on local, everything from the morning coffee (Just Us Coffee) to the produce, you are in for a gourmet and elegant treat! The breakfast was among if not the best I've ever had on vacation. The yogurt parfait was to die for. The cottage cheese frittata was light and fluffy like a dream! Of course, everyday is different. Also, upstairs there is a small communal kitchen with freshly baked muffins, coffee, tea, sweets and a fridge to chill your local wine or keep your gelato frozen until late night treat time. Everything you need is right there from a corkscrew to red or white wineglasses. Planter's Barracks has really thought of it all. Even the complimentary toiletries are earth friendly. I could go on and on. But really, check out their website or give Erin a call to find out more! You won't be disappointed. I only wish we could have changed our flights and stayed longer! https://plantersbarracks.com

Erin is, hands down, the most friendly, gracious and helpful innkeeper I've ever experienced. I stayed in a number of B&Bs and high end hotels and resorts while touring PEI and Nova Scotia. One lives outside Sydney, NS, and the other lives in Moncton, NB. This year Elaine had the great idea of spending the weekend at the Broadleaf Guest Ranch, which is about 30 minutes south of Moncton. I flew to Halifax on Thursday my sister and and I drove to Moncton on Friday and I flew home yesterday. Broadleaf Guest Ranch is an 1100 acre, family owned and operated adventure business located in Albert County, New Brunswick, in the heart of the Bay of Fundy! We have been providing memorable experiences for over 50 years and 3 generations. The tranquil atmosphere enables our clients to submerse themselves in Broadleaf's soothing surroundings. Combine our country setting with our delicious home-cooked Ranch cuisine and toss in some great outdoor adventures, spa treatments, and country-style lodging, to give you an award winning recipe for an exceptional, stress free, all-inclusive holiday package. There are three cabins in a row on the hill ... we were in cabin #2 (Comanche). It was a self-contained cabin with a living room, kitchen, two bedrooms (with a double bed and single bunkbeds in each room) and a bathroom. Our our view was looking out at the marsh ... horses could be seen roaming around it. I woke up in the mornings hearing cows and roosters ... quite a difference from the sirens and streetcars I hear in Toronto. We had the ladies' pampering package ... five meals (supper on Friday, breakfast/lunch/supper on Saturday and brunch today) and spa services. We had supper at the restaurant on Friday evening ... it was a busy spot! Since our spa services started earlier, we had our breakfast delivered to our cabin Saturday morning. Three of us had a cold breakfast and my sister had the hot breakfast. Tina and Tiffany, the estheticians, arrived for our spa services just before 9am (they were with us for three hours). We each had a 20 minute back massage, a manicure and a pedicure. We were too relaxed to go for lunch so had it delivered ... I had a turkey sandwich, salad and hot apple crumble. Yum! We went horseback riding Saturday afternoon, which is right across the street the cabins ... $30 for an hour. We were too comfortable to go for supper Saturday night so had it delivered. I had the roast turkey dinner again as did my sister. My friends had nachos. Brunch yesterday was a buffet. There was lots to choose from ... tea biscuits, bacon, ham, sausages, quiche, scrambled eggs, home fries, mashed potatoes, stuffing, fiddleheads, potato salad, chow, mustard pickles, desserts and lots lots more! It was part of our package ... it's only $14 if you aren't in the package. It was a a popular spot! What a great place! I would definitely recommend it for a weekend getaway. It was only $275/person. We are talking about going back again next year! The only strange thing I found about the cabin is that there was no phone. Granted the office can be seen from the cottages but what if there was an emergency and you didn't have a cell phone? Or you wanted your meals delivered but didn't have a cell phone? A huge shout-out to Kathy Weir! She took such good care of us! She would pop up to the cabin to make sure we had everything we needed, delivered our meals, etc. She even washed our dishes which felt strange since we were sitting right there but she kept stressing that we were there to be pampered.

My father, brother, and I just had an amazing weekend in two of these beautiful, rustic, cottages…read more The physical environment alone is enough to transport travellers to a refreshing vacation that is both relaxed and sufficiently equipped for comfort. The number of cottages (some spacious and some small with a redeemingly cuteness) helps to ensure availability and provides a village-like walkabout. You can chose to use the outdoor communal furniture and fire pit to socialize with neighbouring travellers while the young'ns use the playground, or you can borrow a portable bbq and hang out on your patio with a good book. Beyond it's physical beauty, the new owners Wendy and Jay, and their staff, fill this space with an accommodating and welcoming energy. I felt immediately welcome and continued to be surprised by their generous dedication to making sure my family had the most comfortable stay possible. Riverview cottages is close to many amenities and is a 15 minute walk to "downtown Parrsboro". I have stayed in these cottages on many occasions and it is a sure good time. Even though the river (which is actually an aboiteau) now runs low, this place is rushing with welcoming feelings and relaxing vibes.

We booked our cabins with the previous owners over a year ago as we were planning a family reunion…read more Once the new owners came on board we discussed that we wanted as many of the cabins as possible - so we were able to secure 7 cabins for about 20 people and 4 dogs. Everyone stayed a minimum of 2 nights with half of us staying 5-7 days. When we discussed our plans with the new owners back in April 2012. They were aware that we were a large group, that we wanted to be able to put the children to bed and stay up with the adults and socialize with our family we only get to see every few years. They assured us that they planned on putting in fire pits and that this would not be a problem. Family travelled from around North America to come to this reunion. When we arrived we find multiple signs all over the place stating 11pm quiet time. The signs say noise after 11pm police will be called, this is your final warning and so on. We also found out that there were no fire pits built. We offered to buy a stand alone movable pit to use during out stay and that we would leave it. We were given a firm/rude "no". The quiet time is more like a curfew. At 10:55 each night the owners come around and ask you to go into your cabins. The cabins are rustic, which I like, but there is no insulation for noise so when 15 people are crowded into one cabin to visit, it get noisy. If there had been fire pits away from the cabins, we would have happily hung out there. There were also a number of instances where they said rude/strange things to members of our group. They definitely lack customer service skills and they customer is not always right. Here are some examples: 1. Family with two kids drives into the cabins and asks "where is the office?" Answer: "Didn't you see the signs???" 2. For two groups of people when they arrived from long distances in the early afternoon, they were made to wait for the 3pm check in time even though their cabins were completely ready. This meant a mom and two kids under 4 napped in their car in the heat. 3. Husband arrives a day later than his wife. Comment from owners "well check in isn't until 3pm - why are you here???" His wife had checked in the day before so it wasn't an issue so then they said "Those dogs better be friendly - we have guests who are afraid of dogs." They website clearly states pet friendly and we all called and made sure they knew we were bringing dogs. We had previously thought we might book the whole complex for the next reunion weekend n 2 years. After the way we were all treated we will be looking elsewhere. The cottages themselves are great - very rustic but charming unto themselves. Very much unlike the owners.

We found it on purpleroofs.com and we were very lucky to have discovered it. We were visiting my partner's nephew who was working on an organic farm on PEI for the summer and our stay at Maple Hill was an added and unexpected pleasure. We had never been to PEI before and did not know what to expect. Mike and Paul are the proprietors and they could not have done more to make our visit more perfect. Their guest house is nestled on the side of a wonderfully landscaped hill with expansive and private views of the green and plush countryside. We stayed in a beautifully converted barn that was spacious, decorated and incredibly comfortable. Their flower garden is absolutely stunning (Paul is a landscape architect) and the "Pidgeonnair" (a little room house located on a private end of the farm) was great for yoga, meditation or just relaxing in a private area. They actually farm and have several cows so the experience was absolutely complete. Breakfast was superb and we had a traditional lobster dinner (the other choice was a harvest farm dinner), that could not be beat. We also enjoyed their company and they even invited us to a concert in a nearby town (in an old church), which just made the trip all the more complete. Stunning, spectacular, fun, quiet, peaceful, beautiful and everything in between. I highly, highly recommend Maple Hill Guest House not only when visiting PEI but also as a destination. Mike and Paul have got it down. We look forward to going back and repeating our incredible experience. Really a true find!!!!!
