My review is based on the hospitality of the staff as my most important criterion. I also cross-posted on Trip Advisor so this is that review:
My title kind of says it all. I'm an experienced traveler and pushing 60 (really really hard), but I'm not a fuddy-duddy. You can tell that because I said fuddy-duddy. I mean, I have an iPhone with Rage Against the Machine, Jimi Hendrix and Mozart on my playlist so there's my street cred :-D
I travel a great deal both on business and pleasure. Not a road warrior like some people, but I go on about 8-10 pleasure trips and probably that many business trips every year. We go to most of the Saints away games and I travel for wood working classes and such.
I can choose almost any place I prefer and, for this trip which was a personal trip for my wood turning hobby, I wanted to economize because it was just me. I hate those long, over-analytical reviews (you know, the shampoo bottle was only .9 oz instead of 1.2 oz, blah blah), so I'll try not to do that.
Try.
Okay, so this is similar to a Comfort Inn, perhaps a Hampton Inn back in the U.S. Which to me is a good standard for accommodations and I do stay at Hamptons a lot on business because they're consistently good. This hotel compares very favorably in all aspects.
Staff are uncommonly friendly, and in a genuine way. I enjoyed several nice conversations and, since I'm a Cajun from New Orleans, Louisiana, there is a common thread (my ancestors were run out of there back in the early 1700s and settled in south Louisiana) :-)
Anyway, they were just plain nice.
The room? Smallish maybe by American standards, but for me, I found it was just right and more thoughtfully laid out. Efficient, with everything one needs and a nice bathroom. Speaking of shampoo bottles, the shower had a wall-mounted dispenser for body wash and shampoo. I find this especially appealing and I'm sure it's good for the company as well. Also, I hate a postage stamp sized towel and the DON'T have them here. Linens were nice.
The breakfast room was also pleasant. Good and different choices every day and nice, chatty staff (but not if you don't want to talk. They're not in your face but if you open up to them you'll enjoy a good conversation). They were very helpful and open to me and I appreciated it.
It's sort of on the edge of town so it's a couple mile drive to the restaurant and shopping district, but it is a pleasant drive through some beautiful country.
Well, I went on and on like I didn't plan to but I hope you consider my review in context of the others as well as mine. I do stay in some high-end properties and would say that you have to adjust your expectations for each type of facility.
These nice people certainly exceeded mine. I plan to return to Nova Scotia and when I do, I'll stay again.
Final mention. Wolfville is close and a pretty cool town too.
Final, Final mention. Good TV choices.
