Al is a remarkable man, one of those rare individuals who has many talents and he uses them in the management and running of this inn. He has made furniture that you will see in it and he has designed and built much of the inn itself. He is a chef and cooks the breakfasts for the guests. He is a wealth of information to help you enjoy the area. We highly recommend staying at the Olde Lantern Inn. The area where the inn is located is great to explore too. Wolfville nearby is home to a university so there is a very youthful and energetic feeling about the area. Grand Pre is of historic value being the historic site connected with the Acadian saga. We hiked to Cape Split on our last trip here, which is a 5 mile trip to a point overlooking the ocean where you can hear the tide as it roars in. Be prepared for the 5 mile return trip though and bring plenty of drinking water with you. Olde Lantern Inn sits next door to a vineyard and a great restaurant also so you will be treated very well by Al and those who work together to make your stay a delight.

This is a review of the food only…read more The main floor of the ornate inn is largely used as the dining area for their restaurant. Where you can enjoy a 3-course meal ($62.50). Or add an extra $2.50 to receive a small salad course between the main and dessert. For those want a smaller dinner, dishes are also available a la carte (prices reflected in this post). Their tomato bruschetta ($14) uses a decadent whipped ricotta as the base, building upon the classic ingredients of cherry tomatoes, herbs, and a balsamic reduction. With tons of flavours and not as messy to eat, this was a wonderful starting bite. Arriving as a big chunk, the maple smoked salmon ($14) could benefit from a bit of preparation to present it in a crostini form. The candy sweet salmon was powerful on its own but balances out with the maple yogurt sauce and baguette. A bit of pickled red onion and/or arugula would add some freshness the dish needs. Save some of that bread for the steamed mussels ($14), classically prepared in a white wine and garlic broth. I rather enjoyed the bell pepper used throughout for colour and added flavour. The mussels just needed to be soaked longer as they were still several gritty crustaceans. You can't go wrong with seafood in Nova Scotia. The pan seared halibut ($37) was perfectly cooked to a flaky and moist consistency. The thick meaty piece could use more seasoning but if you get enough of the 'hodge podge', a medley of vegetables cooked in a cream sauce, onto the fish it helps to add flavour. The scallops in the scallops picatta ($37) were beautifully seared and just cooked through. The natural sweetness of the seafood was also prominent since the lemon caper sauce used with the pappardelle wasn't too strong. With a touch more salt, this dish would have been perfect. While the lobster linguine ($44; $7 supplement with the prix fixe) smelled good, the dish was majorly lacking on taste. The spaghetti was overcooked, and everything screamed for more seasoning, butter, and acid. My nose was more impressed than the tongue. This is a long review, for the rest go to Gastro World.

The staff at the Inn were very welcoming, and helpful in providing recommendations regarding places to go in the area. And the breakfast hit the spot. Dinner was amaaaaaaziiiiiing. I wasn't overly hungry so I only had an entree, but OMG so good, as were my husband's dishes. We had attentive and friendly service too. Everything was perfect! Thank you Blomidon Inn for a great start to our Nova Scotia vacation!

I…read morewas in the area on business, stayed 1 night in the "Four Poster" and I can't even begin to compare the Stella to other accommodations. After being on the road for a couple of weeks, different cities, different hotels, I finally had the best night's sleep I've had in a long time! Clean, quiet and cozy is how I'd describe the B&B. Dan and Arlene are gracious hosts and upon my arrival, I was greeted by their welcome committee, Coco. (a cockapoo dog who I think is happy to socialize with anyone!) I'm not a big breakfast person which means that I usually have coffee and that's it. But I couldn't refuse the delicious breakfast that was served. Coffee/Tea, Juice, Fresh Fruit, Eggs... the works! I wish that the Stella Rose was a chain in every city I travel to. (But I'm sure they'd be fully booked) Both Dan and Arlene are fabulous people and you definitely will want to stay with them again. Will definitely be back and would definitely recommend to anyone looking to stay in the Annapolis Valley.

After a day of touring vineyards in this beautiful area, the Stella Rose B&B was a fantastic home away from home. Check in was a breeze and Dan gave us a tour of their indoor common area, sun shaded deck and our cozy cottage-like suite for 3. With a double, single and pull-out couch already made up, we each had a place to lay our heads. The modern bathroom with plenty of shower pressure helped us wash off the day before having the most peaceful sleep (though I'm sure the wine tastings helped here). The breakfast cooked and served with smiles by our host and hostess was reason enough to return! OJ and Water were waiting for us on our deck table, and coffee was quickly served. After confirming any dietary restrictions we were started off with a generous cup of berries and yogurt, sprinkled with cinnamon. Fresh out of the pan, our next plate included a portobello and three cheese omelet, ham, beans, shredded potato, toast, and cherries! The Stella Rose B&b gets 5 stars for quality, comfort, price, character, and charm. I look forward to my next excuse to stay here.

What a great place to stay and brunch!…read more It is a lovely old house on the main street of Lunenburg. It has a fantastic balance of old and new: - lovely antique furniture, floor coverings, exquisite old light fixtures, etc. - exercise room, high speed internet, business centre, flat screen TV + DVD player in the room. We were blown away by the small touches as the modern stemware in the rooms, updated bathrooms and complementary chocolates on the bed. The bed was a dream to sleep on, once the pillows were cleared and stacked in the corner:-) Nice light cozy comforter on the bed. Now for breakfast - simply fantastic! Cold buffet with solomon gundy, smoked salmon, cheeses, etc.. A bread stack that included fresh from the oven croissants. We went with the a la carte eggs benedict - and don't let them give you the back bacon - go for the smoked salmon option - yummmmmm!!! We will definitely be going back. The question is only whether it will be another mid-winter, off season fantastically priced get-away or a full priced mid-summer Lunenburg folk festival week? Not to be missed!

I would recommend The Mariner King without hesitation.

We didn't, but there was one going on when we got there. Innkeepers Val Peterson & Paul Stackhouse made us feel like family...and eavesdropping on the conversation with the bride and groom, I know they felt special too. Each room is beautifully decorated with antiques and every morning you are greeted to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and muffins and scones baking in the oven to go along with a full breakfast served in the very formal dining room. The room may be formal, but the atmosphere is very relaxed. I really can't wait to go back! One word AWESOME or maybe EXTRAORDINARY. Just remember they are open from April 1-November 30. The house is like a comfortable museum - beautifully decorated with antique items, but you don't feel like you're in a "no touch" zone. The hostess was super friendly and extremely accommodating, especially when we told her we would miss breakfast because we had to leave a little early to go whale watching. She and her staff started breakfast early and still fed us a full feast! It's centrally located, an easy walk to the center of Annapolis Royal but still a bit quiet and tucked away. We stayed in Room 2, which has a wonderful bed (comfy and quiet) and a large free-standing tub perfect for soaking in. The only complaint is that we're a bit sensitive to noise on a road, and this room is at the front of the house, so you can hear the cars moving along. However, the house is set back from the road, so it's not a considerable annoyance, and there is not much that the Inn can do about that. As it is, they do have an AC unit in the room, so it's easy to keep windows closed. Room 2 has a great free standing bathtub and a comfy and quiet bed. You don't share a wall with any other guests since the bathroom separates your bedroom from other guests, so it's very private.
