We booked this B&B pretty much blind the day before, but it did not disappoint. The Tattingstone is in a stately old house with an annex just down the road from Acadia University and central Wolfville. The owners pretty much have bed and breakfasting down to a fine art:
Bed: Super-soft, comfy four-poster bed, so high you need a step to get in. This is old-school Nova Scotia sleeping. My only complaint was that the pillows were too big! (Did someone say, "First world problems"?) I also loved the botanical and nature prints in the room, and the airy ensuite with a small soaker tub. It reminded me, happily, of sleeping over at my Grandma's house.
Breakfast: Served in the conservatory-like breakfast room overlooking the gardens at individual tables. The couple who own the inn go all out on food and service - Heather keeps the coffee and conversation flowing, while Thomas sends out dish upon dish: a yogurt parfait with seasonal fruits and berries (the Inn is in the Annapolis Valley, after all, Nova Scotia's prime farming country) and your choice of either French toast or bacon/sausage and eggs. The French toast was incredible - my husband had seconds!
Bonuses: It was raining like crazy for much of our short stay, so we didn't get to enjoy the gardens and pool on the grounds. But Heather and Thomas were warm hosts, full of tips for what to see in this pretty area (Bay of Fundy, Grand Pre National Historic Site, wineries ...) and recommendations on where to eat, always important. They were extremely kind and knowledgeable in answering any questions.
Due to a little misunderstanding with my husband concerning a trifecta of rain, luggage and misplaced car keys, we did sort of rush off at the end without a proper goodbye, but I would stay here again anytime I came back to Wolfville. I never did get around to trying all those wineries. read more
