After being on the road for a couple of weeks, different cities, different hotels, I finally had the best night's sleep I've had in a long time! Clean, quiet and cozy is how I'd describe the B&B. Dan and Arlene are gracious hosts and upon my arrival, I was greeted by their welcome committee, Coco. (a cockapoo dog who I think is happy to socialize with anyone!) I'm not a big breakfast person which means that I usually have coffee and that's it. But I couldn't refuse the delicious breakfast that was served. Coffee/Tea, Juice, Fresh Fruit, Eggs... the works! I wish that the Stella Rose was a chain in every city I travel to. (But I'm sure they'd be fully booked) Both Dan and Arlene are fabulous people and you definitely will want to stay with them again. Will definitely be back and would definitely recommend to anyone looking to stay in the Annapolis Valley.

After a day of touring vineyards in this beautiful area, the Stella Rose B&B was a fantastic home away from home. Check in was a breeze and Dan gave us a tour of their indoor common area, sun shaded deck and our cozy cottage-like suite for 3. With a double, single and pull-out couch already made up, we each had a place to lay our heads. The modern bathroom with plenty of shower pressure helped us wash off the day before having the most peaceful sleep (though I'm sure the wine tastings helped here). The breakfast cooked and served with smiles by our host and hostess was reason enough to return! OJ and Water were waiting for us on our deck table, and coffee was quickly served. After confirming any dietary restrictions we were started off with a generous cup of berries and yogurt, sprinkled with cinnamon. Fresh out of the pan, our next plate included a portobello and three cheese omelet, ham, beans, shredded potato, toast, and cherries! The Stella Rose B&b gets 5 stars for quality, comfort, price, character, and charm. I look forward to my next excuse to stay here.

It was extremely easy to book by phone and they offer a range of rooms depending on what your needs are for your stay. We actually got a bigger suite sort of thing outside of the main inn (about $138/night) complete with a two-person jacuzzi tub, pull-out couch, and a bed so comfortable that I almost scrapped all plans for of a two-day snooze. The family running the Tattingstone were never far during out stay but were also happy to just give us the run of the place as need be. While they enjoyed a glass of wine with friends near the heated outdoor pool, we didn't feel at all weird about grabbing our own glasses from the kitchen to enjoy some local port in under the gazebo. Very chill and just what we were looking for. In the morning, a complimentary breakfast is served but it's not your average continental. We all scored delicious French Toast with maple syrup, powdered sugar, whipped yogurt parfaits, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. Walkable from downtown Wolfville (under 1km) and within $5-7 cab from just about anywhere you'd need to go, the Tattingstone is a great home base for your Valley stay.

My room was lovely - spacious with a beautiful four poster bed, a nice bathroom and a small TV with plenty of seating. And the surrounding area was great - very pretty rooms downstairs, a lovely sunroom to enjoy your complimentary breakfast in, and gorgeous grounds that include a swimming pool! Being able to enjoy an end of day glass of wine under the gazebo with friends was just perfect. And that breakfast? As Ben B. said, it's not your average B&B spread. You're given a range of options, from bacon & eggs to tasty french toast and a bonus appetizer of absolutely amazing whipped yogurt with maple syrup. The couple who own the Inn couldn't have been friendlier - they even gave us a lovely handwritten note and a bottle of wine and a handwritten note when they discovered that we'd gotten engaged the day before. The Inn is close to all the main amenities in Wolfville, and cabs are not expensive at all. It's a fantastic place to stay in one of the prettiest parts of Nova Scotia!

First step into the bathroom, there was a plastic champagne glass on the floor. Towels clean but old and threadbare. Tub and sink were clean. Area rugs and floors were filthy, looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in ages. Dust everywhere, cobwebs in corners and closets. Sheets appeared to be dirty, and very old at least. The caretaker was nice, but at no time did we hear or see him cleaning. The bathroom in the main entry area was filthy--sink almost brown it was so dirty, mirror had old water/splash marks all over it, nothing was clean. Breakfast was included but we skipped it. Even the automatic coffee maker was so dirty, it had layers of dried coffee all over it. The whole dining area was dirty--side table, dining tables had dirty table cloths over them. No way we were eating there. Do not recommend.

The best part of a stay here is to step (literally) into a world that no longer exists - and when it did exist - it was beyond my socio-economic situation. Every corner of the beautiful house is detailed with loving care - the molding, the drapes, the furniture, the staircase and of course the stained glass window! It moves you to a different time and place. What a treat!!! The staff are fabulous - taking on whatever role is appropriate for our needs from taking reservations, welcoming guests, to pouring that lovely third cup of coffee at breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, you might want to start exercising your pinky finger now so as to get it pointed properly straight out from the coffee cup handle - if you want to fully indulge in the environment. China, table cloths, attentive waitresses - all add up to one of the most special B&B experiences anywhere. It is not stuffy. In fact it is very relaxed - it is just that one can enjoy a good stuffy moment or two if one wishes to stare down your nose at the peasantry walking by the window:-) All part of the fun this setting encourages. The rooms are OK in size - more typical of the period that the house was built. They just border on the feeling of old style cluttered with lovely furniture such as a four-poster bed. The bed was fantastic! The in room fireplace and Jacuzzi tub will have to be enjoyed more fully this coming winter. What else to mention - oh yes - the grounds are beautiful with lawn chairs strategically placed for a guest and a book midst the shrubbery and flowers. I love this place for relaxation and imagination at its best.

Originally Fort Hughes, the barracks were built in 1778 as rest quarters for the military during the war. Although we visited in the fall (late October) and it was far too cold to enjoy the yard, fire pit, or deck - the grounds are absolutely beautiful. There are six suites here each with a private washroom and shower or tub. Every room has a different feel with a slightly different layout. Each room has an electric fireplace fit into where the original fireplaces were. Of course there are some odd nuances here like sloping or creaky floors - however, I love it all! Erin is a gem! She's bursting with knowledge and history on the barracks as well as the local area. Ask her for a suggestion or idea, she won't let you down! Um and hello, how did I almost forget the amazing food?!?! With a focus on local, everything from the morning coffee (Just Us Coffee) to the produce, you are in for a gourmet and elegant treat! The breakfast was among if not the best I've ever had on vacation. The yogurt parfait was to die for. The cottage cheese frittata was light and fluffy like a dream! Of course, everyday is different. Also, upstairs there is a small communal kitchen with freshly baked muffins, coffee, tea, sweets and a fridge to chill your local wine or keep your gelato frozen until late night treat time. Everything you need is right there from a corkscrew to red or white wineglasses. Planter's Barracks has really thought of it all. Even the complimentary toiletries are earth friendly. I could go on and on. But really, check out their website or give Erin a call to find out more! You won't be disappointed. I only wish we could have changed our flights and stayed longer! https://plantersbarracks.com

Accommodating our need for use of their freezer to hold frozen food we needed for the trip. Very dog friendly, not surprising when you meet their own dogs: one very large the other tiny, yet very amicable together. We stayed at the carriage house suite ("the Annapolis" ) which was very convenient and comfortable: one bedroom and a large adjacent sitting area. Immaculate and nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable, not what you usually get on the road: "Bed" - checked!! As for the "Breakfast" portion of the Inn - way more exquisite than ordinary B&B would be: Each day started with a unique 3 course breakfast, and the most accurate description is quoted from their website: "The first two courses often include one of the following: Yogurt Parfait, with homemade granola, Nova Scotia local berries and vanilla yogurt. Homemade muffins or scones, made with Nova Scotia local berries and served warm. Fresh fruit platter (in season) The final course, often referred to as "Oh, my gosh, more food!" often includes one of the following: Nova Scotia Apple Delight - light and fluffy eggs combined with local apples, baked to perfection and lightly sprinkled with sugar and served with Nova Scotia maple syrup and blueberry sauce. Not Your Average Scrambled Eggs - farm fresh free range eggs scrambled with Gruyere cheese and fresh chives, local sausage or bacon with Rod's famous homemade Nova Scotia brown bread. OMG - homemade Belgian Waffles or buttermilk pancakes topped with local berries served with Nova Scotia maple syrup, and local sausages." We can attest to the veracity of all statement, and their delicious taste - baked/cooked/fried to perfection by Chef Rod, graciously served by a very friendly Lynn. To top it all up - although we had our own plans for touring the Annapolis Vally, we consulted with Rod and Lynn, and got an excellent response - meaning not only did they have a suggestion, but they "happened" to also have a local map to serve us while exploring this gorgeous region. Highly recommend this Inn as a starting point for anyone visiting the area. Thank you Lynn and Rod, hope to see you again when we next visit the area!
