This is a review of the food only. The main floor of the ornate inn is largely used as the dining area for their restaurant. Where you can enjoy a 3-course meal ($62.50). Or add an extra $2.50 to receive a small salad course between the main and dessert. For those want a smaller dinner, dishes are also available a la carte (prices reflected in this post). Their tomato bruschetta ($14) uses a decadent whipped ricotta as the base, building upon the classic ingredients of cherry tomatoes, herbs, and a balsamic reduction. With tons of flavours and not as messy to eat, this was a wonderful starting bite. Arriving as a big chunk, the maple smoked salmon ($14) could benefit from a bit of preparation to present it in a crostini form. The candy sweet salmon was powerful on its own but balances out with the maple yogurt sauce and baguette. A bit of pickled red onion and/or arugula would add some freshness the dish needs. Save some of that bread for the steamed mussels ($14), classically prepared in a white wine and garlic broth. I rather enjoyed the bell pepper used throughout for colour and added flavour. The mussels just needed to be soaked longer as they were still several gritty crustaceans. You can't go wrong with seafood in Nova Scotia. The pan seared halibut ($37) was perfectly cooked to a flaky and moist consistency. The thick meaty piece could use more seasoning but if you get enough of the 'hodge podge', a medley of vegetables cooked in a cream sauce, onto the fish it helps to add flavour. The scallops in the scallops picatta ($37) were beautifully seared and just cooked through. The natural sweetness of the seafood was also prominent since the lemon caper sauce used with the pappardelle wasn't too strong. With a touch more salt, this dish would have been perfect. While the lobster linguine ($44; $7 supplement with the prix fixe) smelled good, the dish was majorly lacking on taste. The spaghetti was overcooked, and everything screamed for more seasoning, butter, and acid. My nose was more impressed than the tongue. We had a wonderful time at the Blomidon Inn, both as guests of the hotel and the restaurant. The room was beautiful and comfortable, as were the common spaces at the Inn. The staff at the Inn were very welcoming, and helpful in providing recommendations regarding places to go in the area. And the breakfast hit the spot. Dinner was amaaaaaaziiiiiing. I wasn't overly hungry so I only had an entree, but OMG so good, as were my husband's dishes. We had attentive and friendly service too. Everything was perfect! *Referring to the restaurant only. The Inn was included as our gourmet lunch in a day-long wine tour (bus from Halifax to the Valley and back). Wisely, our tour guide called in our menu orders from the bus prior to arrival, to save on time waiting at the table. Our tour included the meal and gratuity in original ticket price, and so it was nice to be able to finish our meal and just be able to get up and leave. Reservations recommended. Due to this special arrangement, our specific dishes aren't listed on the site's regular lunch menu, so unfortunately I don't have a proper description. However, will add the pics. A small dish of pasta with sauteed vegetables and goat or feta cheese in maybe a soy vinaigrette was good, with a green salad on the plate. The vinaigrette on the salad was barely there though. One in our party said that the salmon was very good. My dessert of a caramel apple cheesecake was delicious and my partner said his gingerbread with lemon sauce was very good. Service was fine, attentive but the server didn't say much. But our food arrived quickly. The Inn itself is in a giant Victorian home, so when you enter the front doors, you are in the main hallway. There are dining rooms off in a few different directions that I could tell. Formal but without the need to dress formal in the least. Our room had four tables, three of which were occupied, two by us from the wine tour, one from drop-in guests I think. I would go back here for lunch if ever just going for a day drive to Wolfville, or for dinner if staying overnight. It's just that I rarely go to Wolfville, other than some fall apple picking, so not sure I will actually BE back here at any time. read more

We live in the area so this is a review of the restaurant. The inn itself is in a lovely setting, with gracious gardens and a delightful former captains' house. The innkeeper, Michael, goes out of his way to make you feel welcome and at home. The food is excellent, with attention to allergies and special requests. This is our "go to" place for family dinners or just a quiet meal for two. Blomidon never disappoints. read more

We spent two nights at the Blomidon Inn, had two breakfasts, and dined there once. It might as well have been two different places. We stayed in their cottage. Housekeeping was poor. Waste baskets weren't emptied, The bed wasn't made, and the bathroom was not cleaned. Breakfast was marginal. The choices were fine but the buffet was not refreshed. I had to intrude upon the kitchen to get things as simple as a banana or yogurt. Dinner on the other hand was exemplary. We had a lovely time with good food and good service. The hotel is Meh. Great lunch in a beautiful character filled setting. With a lot of these charming historic Inns, the food usually doesn't live up to the appeal of the setting. This was not the case at the Blomidon Inn. I'm a sucker for historic architecture but I have high standards for food quality as well. The lunch special my wife and I had was delicious and well priced. It was a simple soup and sandwich deal but the soup was home-made red pepper and the sandwich was a ham and cheese on fresh baked bread. My wife subbed out the ham for turkey at an extra $1 charge I can't remember what kind of bread it was but I wish I had bought a loaf of it. Service was quick and friendly and I am tempted to come back after looking at their impressive menu and wine list. A wish all lunches were this memorable. read more

The Blomindon Inn is very impressive when you arrive. It's a converted mansion and when you enter, it feels like you're walking in to the past. It's beautiful and I wish it hadn't been raining when my friend and I arrived; it would have been nice to walk through their gardens. Before I go in to the rest of my review, please keep in mind that I would stay here again. The food is delicious, and after a few (unpleasant) humps, the service was quite good. The Inn is beautiful. The price is very reasonable. It's very close to a few different wineries (Nova Scotia wines are amazing, especially if you like off-dry whites) and the rooms are comfortable. If you're as addicted to your electronics as I am, their WiFi is very reliable with a strong connection. But the humps, they were very unpleasant. My friend and I decided to stop here on a whim. We were driving through Nova Scotia as part of a 10 day vacation in the Maritimes and the Blomidon Inn was recommended in bother of our guidebooks and Wolfville is a very cool name for a city. We arrived earlier than we thought we would, just around lunch time. We arrived just before a family of 3 blonde people. I only mention this because of the first unpleasant hump: as we waited for service (there was no one in the lobby because they were all busy in the dining room -- understandable), I peeked in to the dining room in the hopes that I would catch someone's eye and they would come help us in the lobby. I was able to catch a man's eye and after he enters the lobby, he stops within in inches of me. Then, looking past me, he asks the family of 3, "Table for 3 for lunch?" My friend and I had already had a few unpleasant encounters with people through our trip in Nova Scotia because of our ... Chineseness, I guess, and it's possible that because of this, my tolerance for being overlooked/ignored/imposed invisibility was at its very end. We had considered staying a second night if we really liked Wolfville but at that point, the only thing that kept me from walking out again was that I was tired and hungry and their WiFi was more reliable than the WiFi of some of the major chain hotels my friend and I had stayed. My family spent more than a week touring Nova Scotia. What an incredible experience. Halifax, Wolfville, Hall's Harbor, Chester, Truro, Pictou and Antigonish. I'm ready to switch life gears, enroll in Acadia University and work part time at Grande Pre. The vacation was one of the best and Nova Scotia knocked me down; blew me away. I will never be the same. I have been home for weeks and am still in shock. By far the best experience I had was staying at the Blomidon. Victorian architecture and small town atmosphere made going out to lunch an adventure and sojourn into historic North America. The House is easy walking distance from town with fruit trees being picked by locals and restaurants and shops for everyone. Continental breakfast every morning and 007 Martinis at dusk were a delight. Fancy dining and a bedroom upstairs made me feel like a true American. read more

Arriving on a rainy November day, this impressive looking, mansard-roofed mansion just outside of the central business area was immediately inviting. I looked at two rooms before deciding on another that was somewhat smaller but was located in the original building. Called "Gaspereau", it felt right. The walls are painted dark mushroom, the floors are hardwood and my spacious bathroom was surely an updated original with a lovely stained glass window, original pedestal basin and claw-foot tub and new shower stall. Comfortable bed, feather pillows, wide-screen TV, Egyptian cotton towels. Altogether, a very, very good deal at $98 with a CAA discount. After exploring the town, which IMHO is not really one of NS's most charming, I decided to eat at the inn. Started with a martini made with gin distilled on PEI (well done, bartender!) and had the braised lamb shank ($23) served with roasted beats, new potatoes and asparagus. All delicious and perfect comfort food for a rainy night. Service was polished and friendly. This is a family-run operation and they are very good innkeepers. My waiter was one son of the owners and another son was cooking. At breakfast, I had the same waiter and he was, again, very smooth (in an good way). That meal was a generous cold buffet with excellent coffee. I don't give "excellent" ratings very often but it's deserved for the Blomidon when I consider the total package: location, personality, service, sleep and food quality. The expansive gardens are probably very pretty in season and there's an interesting gift shop on the property as well. They offer afternoon tea to guests with sweets to nibble and I had an absolutely delicious shortbread cookie. Nice touch! read more

We needed a place for lunch in the area and I found Blomidon Inn online. We arrived at about 1 p.m. and were seated quickly. The restaurant, like the Inn, retains its historic touch. My lobster roll was tasty - it let the lobster roll shine. My husband got the pasta and enjoyed it. The portions were nice and I thought the prices were fairly reasonable (expect a small mark up in the wine country region). Service was good although very, very slow even though the lunch service was winding down. It took a very long time to get drinks and then ultimately our check. Good place for lunch in the area but not exactly a quick bite. read more

I did not stay at the hotel but only visited the restaurant with one other person. It is possible that we chose badly, but the food was very mediocre. The service was pleasant and attentive, however. Overall, I thought it very overpriced and would not go back or recommend it. My dinner partner and I said on the drive home that it seemed as if the Blomidon really needed a dynamic manager, someone to shake things up. For instance, you pay at the front. Why not at the table where you are served? When you go to the front, you have to wait for someone to take your money. I probably waited five minutes or so before collering a member of staff and asking to pay. While I was waiting to pay, I noticed the calendar on the wall opposite. I stopped into the Blomidon Inn on a recent trip to the valley, and I can't wait to return to check out their dining room. Instead we just took a stroll around their gardens this time, and they're absolutely stunning. Everything is so well manicured, and many of the flowers were in bloom. There were gorgeous bridges and plenty of cute places to sit, so I highly recommend checking it out if you're in the Wolfville area! read more

My husband and I brought a guest with us today after we toured the valley area.We selected the Blomidon Inn for its charm and ambiance. The service was great ,friendly and prompt. The lunch however was very disappointing.The special ,turkey sandwich and soup, was not what we expected. The turkey in the sandwich was pured mush. We noticed the people at the next table had the same and received cranberry sauce in a dish with it but we didn't receive any.Don't think it would have improved the taste however. We subsituted pear and squash soup which was also lacking something in the taste. Husband had chowder with same results. We should have let them know but its embarassing in front of a guest.Would not rush back. read more

This is a cool place but for $165.00 a night I would have preferred a modern mattress instead of a old spring tight one. Breakfast is very sparse and to be honest, it was a joy to check into the Holiday Inn Express where the couch was not totally worn out and only cost $85.00 a night. Wolfville is a cool town and all of the others around. Hotels are limited. read more

Pleasant little inn. It is beautiful manse with a long stairway up. The rooms are all named with updated bathrooms throughout. Stay downstairs and have a drink in the front rooms or check out the delicious restaurant on property. The fresh baked muffins in the morning are also great. read more

Tasty lunch - lobster roll for my better half and seared salmon for me. Both were accompanied by a well presented and generous salad of local veggies. The atmosphere is a bit like being at your Great Aunt's - the youngest customer we saw was over 50. If you are looking for a quiet place with good food, and don't mind some dated ambiance it's a good bet - at least for lunch. read more

For starters, I didn't pay for my time here, so I can't say anything about the value, but I didn't end up with a particularly pleasant experience. Stayed for two nights in spring. Everything seems perfectly nice. Mid-20s and travelling alone, not the sort of place I'd choose for myself but was picked for me and since I'd never been to Wolfville before, it was sort of interesting to stay at a local landmark. Top floor with but no view. Things are a little dated and the room's quite cramped but that's probably by design given the history of the place. In any case, the second night it was raining. A lot. And the room started leaking on my bed about 2am. I roll out and stumble around looking for someone without any luck. Nobody's behind the front desk or nearby so I head back upstairs. Thankfully, there's a second bed in the room and it's just me, but it's downsizing from a queen to a single. Feeling like I should minimize the damage, I put a garbage bucket out to catch the water and try to sleep. Waking up, I empty about three liters of rainwater - turned a nice brown-yellow after filtering through the roof - into the bathtub and replace the bucket before breakfast. At breakfast, I explain the situation to the girl behind the desk - who gives me an 'Oh no!', makes a joke about how it's great there was a second bed - and promptly turns away. Checking out later that day, the guy taking my keys doesn't bother to offer even an apology either. I had to rush to catch a flight, otherwise I would've made a stink. The food's actually quite good. Dinner was excellent. Breakfast was short on protein options but adequate. I'll give it a star for that in case you're just dining and not staying. read more

I stayed at the Blomidon Inn with my mother for a weekend when I went to visit my daughter at Acadia University. What a wonderful experience! The property is huge and sits on Wolfvilles' charming main street. The gardens are enchanting with many secluded areas to relax and enjoy the serenity. The home itself is spectacular with it's antique furnishings and large front veranda......with many very inviting cozy areas to sit and read. Our room was beautifully decorated with a comfortable four poster bed and single captains bed, private bathroom, flat screen TV and breathtaking views. A delicious home cooked breakfast was served in a lovely dining area. I would love to return with my husband sometime soon so that he may enjoy the same experience. read more

Went today with a friend and we both had a bowl of the curry vegetable soup. I love that soup and have never had anything like it anywhere else. At first, it didn't seem hot enough but once I stirred it around, it was ok. It has a really nice spiciness to it. I've been there quite often and the food is usually very good. read more
