Brent & Wendy Lee were fantastic. So warm and inviting and eager to help us with dinner suggestions, tourist recommendations, and anything we could dream of to make us more comfortable. Their home is a beautiful gem and our room was large, comfortable, beautifully decorated (most of the artwork on display was painted by the two of them!) and the yard and gardens were spectacular. We appreciated being in the suburbs down a quiet lane and a little closer to the Halifax airport, it made our next day just that much easier and more relaxed. Breakfast was gourmet level. No expense was spared, no detail overlooked. Sugar cubes for tea? Sure but also rock candy swizzle sticks if you preferred! Beautiful garnishes on each plate. We had "Atlantic breakfast" tea, fresh fruit served with a dollop of yogurt and a hint of honey drizzle and chopped nuts, a cheddar chive biscuit with eggs and hollandaise sauce with a side of ham. Every bite was perfect. The only thing was slightly odd was the ensuite bathroom had a curtain instead of a door. It was very elegant, but didn't offer much privacy between the bedroom and bathroom. The giant whirlpool tub more than made up for that though, talk about WOW factor.

We nearly didn't make it because we were in Kentville, but due to lack of accommodations (last minute, fully booked), I gave them a shout at 8pm and they had one room available. We drove over, and boy, am I ever glad we did! Let me just say - what an absolutely beautiful house. Gorgeous. A dream. One of the owners (Rick, I think) was there, he had waited for us to arrive since it was late. He didn't act rushed at all, gave us a tour & breakfast order to fill out - he was thorough and friendly. I love the breakfast idea - order what you want at what time & leave it on a desk in the front hall (the same desk that had cookies waiting for guests on it the next morning!) Our room (The Windsor Room) was actually the one I was the least interested in when I looked at pics online, but it proved my judgment wrong. Painted Yellow (with original hand painted & plasted stucco work), with hardwood floors, a big window with wooden shutters, and the most comfortable, plush bed I've ever slept on in my life; I fell in love immediately! The bathroom is built into what used to be a closet and it's very nice - heated, with a shower and natural bath & products. There were clean, plush white robes waiting for us as well. For breakfast, I assumed that it was one common room, but they put us in a private nook, in a separate dining room - so we got to enjoy our (absolutely delicious) breakfast overlooking the yard. It was the perfect way to start the morning. Being so accommodating, the owners encourage guests to hang out throughout the house, even after check-out time. There are games set up upstairs, a lovely sunroom with books, etc. We were also able to check out the other rooms once everyone had abandoned them. They were all fabulous! I think the Queen Victoria Suite is my favourite. One wacky little side note; I'm positive that this place is haunted. Not only because it is so old, but because, after I got home, I was looking at the photos of the Inn and there are very interesting coloured orbs in many of the photos - especially concentrated at the front of the house & outside. When you zoom in, they are all a strange shape & in motion. But, rest assured, I didn't feel any spooks or malicious intent. Quite the contrary, we felt relaxed, comfortable, and had wonderful sleeps! I highly recommend The Clockmaker's Inn, without hesitation. Honestly, one night was not nearly enough to take in this beautiful bed & breakfast that is ultra relaxing. Four thumbs (me & the mister's) way up!

I just got back from a lovely weekend in the valley thanks to the Tattingstone Inn. They get major…read morepoints for being able to accommodate seven of us on a busy Apple Blossom Festival weekend and for being just downright lovely from start to finish. It was extremely easy to book by phone and they offer a range of rooms depending on what your needs are for your stay. We actually got a bigger suite sort of thing outside of the main inn (about $138/night) complete with a two-person jacuzzi tub, pull-out couch, and a bed so comfortable that I almost scrapped all plans for of a two-day snooze. The family running the Tattingstone were never far during out stay but were also happy to just give us the run of the place as need be. While they enjoyed a glass of wine with friends near the heated outdoor pool, we didn't feel at all weird about grabbing our own glasses from the kitchen to enjoy some local port in under the gazebo. Very chill and just what we were looking for. In the morning, a complimentary breakfast is served but it's not your average continental. We all scored delicious French Toast with maple syrup, powdered sugar, whipped yogurt parfaits, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. Walkable from downtown Wolfville (under 1km) and within $5-7 cab from just about anywhere you'd need to go, the Tattingstone is a great home base for your Valley stay.

My room was lovely - spacious with a beautiful four poster bed, a nice bathroom and a small TV with plenty of seating. And the surrounding area was great - very pretty rooms downstairs, a lovely sunroom to enjoy your complimentary breakfast in, and gorgeous grounds that include a swimming pool! Being able to enjoy an end of day glass of wine under the gazebo with friends was just perfect. And that breakfast? As Ben B. said, it's not your average B&B spread. You're given a range of options, from bacon & eggs to tasty french toast and a bonus appetizer of absolutely amazing whipped yogurt with maple syrup. The couple who own the Inn couldn't have been friendlier - they even gave us a lovely handwritten note and a bottle of wine and a handwritten note when they discovered that we'd gotten engaged the day before. The Inn is close to all the main amenities in Wolfville, and cabs are not expensive at all. It's a fantastic place to stay in one of the prettiest parts of Nova Scotia!

This is a review of the food only…read more The main floor of the ornate inn is largely used as the dining area for their restaurant. Where you can enjoy a 3-course meal ($62.50). Or add an extra $2.50 to receive a small salad course between the main and dessert. For those want a smaller dinner, dishes are also available a la carte (prices reflected in this post). Their tomato bruschetta ($14) uses a decadent whipped ricotta as the base, building upon the classic ingredients of cherry tomatoes, herbs, and a balsamic reduction. With tons of flavours and not as messy to eat, this was a wonderful starting bite. Arriving as a big chunk, the maple smoked salmon ($14) could benefit from a bit of preparation to present it in a crostini form. The candy sweet salmon was powerful on its own but balances out with the maple yogurt sauce and baguette. A bit of pickled red onion and/or arugula would add some freshness the dish needs. Save some of that bread for the steamed mussels ($14), classically prepared in a white wine and garlic broth. I rather enjoyed the bell pepper used throughout for colour and added flavour. The mussels just needed to be soaked longer as they were still several gritty crustaceans. You can't go wrong with seafood in Nova Scotia. The pan seared halibut ($37) was perfectly cooked to a flaky and moist consistency. The thick meaty piece could use more seasoning but if you get enough of the 'hodge podge', a medley of vegetables cooked in a cream sauce, onto the fish it helps to add flavour. The scallops in the scallops picatta ($37) were beautifully seared and just cooked through. The natural sweetness of the seafood was also prominent since the lemon caper sauce used with the pappardelle wasn't too strong. With a touch more salt, this dish would have been perfect. While the lobster linguine ($44; $7 supplement with the prix fixe) smelled good, the dish was majorly lacking on taste. The spaghetti was overcooked, and everything screamed for more seasoning, butter, and acid. My nose was more impressed than the tongue. This is a long review, for the rest go to Gastro World.

The staff at the Inn were very welcoming, and helpful in providing recommendations regarding places to go in the area. And the breakfast hit the spot. Dinner was amaaaaaaziiiiiing. I wasn't overly hungry so I only had an entree, but OMG so good, as were my husband's dishes. We had attentive and friendly service too. Everything was perfect! After being on the road for a couple of weeks, different cities, different hotels, I finally had the best night's sleep I've had in a long time! Clean, quiet and cozy is how I'd describe the B&B. Dan and Arlene are gracious hosts and upon my arrival, I was greeted by their welcome committee, Coco. (a cockapoo dog who I think is happy to socialize with anyone!) I'm not a big breakfast person which means that I usually have coffee and that's it. But I couldn't refuse the delicious breakfast that was served. Coffee/Tea, Juice, Fresh Fruit, Eggs... the works! I wish that the Stella Rose was a chain in every city I travel to. (But I'm sure they'd be fully booked) Both Dan and Arlene are fabulous people and you definitely will want to stay with them again. Will definitely be back and would definitely recommend to anyone looking to stay in the Annapolis Valley.

After a day of touring vineyards in this beautiful area, the Stella Rose B&B was a fantastic home away from home. Check in was a breeze and Dan gave us a tour of their indoor common area, sun shaded deck and our cozy cottage-like suite for 3. With a double, single and pull-out couch already made up, we each had a place to lay our heads. The modern bathroom with plenty of shower pressure helped us wash off the day before having the most peaceful sleep (though I'm sure the wine tastings helped here). The breakfast cooked and served with smiles by our host and hostess was reason enough to return! OJ and Water were waiting for us on our deck table, and coffee was quickly served. After confirming any dietary restrictions we were started off with a generous cup of berries and yogurt, sprinkled with cinnamon. Fresh out of the pan, our next plate included a portobello and three cheese omelet, ham, beans, shredded potato, toast, and cherries! The Stella Rose B&b gets 5 stars for quality, comfort, price, character, and charm. I look forward to my next excuse to stay here.

Having been very lucky to stay in some pretty incredible places around the world, there's no question that The Old Parsonage easily ranks within my top five. I was stuck looking for a place to get away for a couple of days to myself during which I could do nothing but write, drink wine, relax, and write some more. (And drink more wine...obviously.) After a chance meeting with one of the two owners, an artist himself who takes pride in offering a unique space for creativity, I was sold on the Maitland Suite and booked myself in for a two night, three day stay. When I finished the hour-ish drive from the city, I was floored to realize that I had the entire building to myself - meaning that my plans of being a recluse in my room for three straight days instantly changed to cozying up in any of the six to eight different sitting rooms that were all at my disposal. The fact that I was able to feel as comfortable as I would at home, except with infinitely more beautiful surroundings and gorgeous wood-fire heat, was unbelievable. From room to room, it's plain to see that not a single detail has been overlooked. Each space is a meticulous collection of shabby-chic décor that's both luxurious and liveable - that is, it's not a place where you feel uncomfortable spending the entire day and night. I lounged around like I owned the place, stopping short of napping in the middle of the main living room although I can't imagine that having been a problem... You won't have to rush out in the mornings in search of provisions either. I would make my way downstairs at my leisure to find fresh orange juice, coffee, toast, and scrambled eggs ready for the feasting as I chatted with the owners about life in the UK, our favourite cities around the world, and the importance of getting away from it all from time to time. Truly, I could go on and on, but I won't. Instead, I'll just say that before even leaving the premises, I had already arranged two more plans to return with family, and am already looking forward to my next writing escape. I can't imagine spending them anywhere else.
