I came in on a Thursday evening around 5. It had a surprising amount of availability. It's a small place. I was offered help with my laundry by someone who I didn't realize was the manager. I had 7 loads to do so I was hopeful in this little place but it's a gem. They have 17 washers total. They also have a little wash station, the water comes out slow but better than no water (especially if you get soap on your hands by accident!). They also gave me one free wash for finding out that I was a first time customer. Manager was already leaving and came back to give that customer service. Downside: The only downside is there are only 4 street parking spaces in front. They also don't have any super small 1 loaders. read more

They have a weird system for paying with a card where you have to have somebody there to tell you how to do it. With an app I've never heard of. That doesn't do any good to tell you how to use it and how to pay that place. Except there was nobody there. Avoid this place! Unless you are carrying $20 worth of quarters. read more

Very small laundromat, but very clean and efficient machines. If you go during a weekday or evening, it's probably less crowded than on the weekends. There were only a couple of people there when we went, but it was hard to maneuver the carts past people that were folding their clothes because of the small space. Everyone was very courteous, and stepped out of the way if someone needed to get by. I figure if it IS a little crowded, I could just sit in my car while the clothes wash and dry. Other than the space issue, I LOVED how clean my clothes were, and how clean the place is. I'm definitely making this my new laundry spot! read more

Don't bother coming here if you need to wash your clothes in cold water. The washing machine only washes hot, even when you choose cold. The phone number by the wall to call for service is incorrect. Nobody picked up. There was someone who was doing laundry here who got in touch with the manager and helped.. if she wasn't there I would have been left in the lurch. I got reimbursed for the hot wash, but not for the damaged clothes resulting from it. I used to like this place.. not anymore!!! read more

I finally found a new laundromat to go to! I went to Central Laundrette on Shattuck for 20 or 30 years before they closed last year. I live just south of downtown Berkeley, so I took the #18 bus which stops right out front of The Laundromat. As someone else said the laundromat is small, so you'll have a better experience if you go during off-hours. The attendant was very pleasant and helpful and, because I'm disabled, a kind customer asked if I needed help. I asked two people their opinions of the laundromat. Both praised it. The woman I talked to comes from Richmond! The laundromat has whatever you need--you can buy detergent and fabric softener. I only come here once a year to wash my king size winter comforters. The have an enormous washer that fits the bulky comforter and allows room for it to move ($8.25/cycle). The dryers are really big too. I've never had to wait for the big machines. The regulars seem to prefer the smaller machines which works great for me. They sell laundry detergent and have a bill change machine for quarters. Nice indoor and outdoor seating. Bring a good book to pass the time. read more

I found this little gem when I needed to wash a CalKing Comforter of mine. This place is quiet, has WiFi and is extremely clean for a laundromat! The decor in the place is very cute and nostalgic of being at your grand mother's house! It's safe and close by to many favorite eateries such as Gordo's for Mexican and ample counter space to fold your clothes to surf the Internet! I would highly recommend this place if your looking for oversized washing machines and dryers, that isn't really busy .. even on a weekends and appreciate the over cleanliness! read more

I used a dryer on the lower rack I believe it was #10 and my brand new clothes now have holes and stains on them. Also for the amount of money I paid to wash and dry my clothes the machines should be unkept and not ruin my clothes. I don't recommend going here AT ALL. read more

This is an adorable mom and pop laundromat. The man working is incredibly kind, and the lady (even though she speaks broken English) is just as charming. There are top load and front load washers, and the dryers dry things so quickly that you may only need 75¢. I highly recommend bringing your own detergent and softener sheets, otherwise you're stuck paying $1.00 for two Downey sheets from the dispenser. read more

The laundromat has allowed me to wash clothes in a fairly quick manner! It hasn't been extremely busy both times that I've gone (one around 7pm weekday, and another around 1pm weekday). Plenty of washers with varying costs and dryers. I'm glad they have many rolling carts and tables for you to fold your clothes as well! Free wifi if you are waiting there! Parking however is not the best, so be prepared to bring luggages or ways to roll your laundry over! read more

The Laundromat is the other self-serve option on Solano Avenue. Laundering services are also available. It's smaller than the Solano Cleaning Center, but is a better attended and cared for, and the machines here seem to do the job just a little bit better. It's also safe and provides welcome diversions (TV, reading material, chairs, etc.) while you're waiting for things to finish up. I have my own machines at home, but need external options occasionally. It's nice to know that this close by Albany business is available when I need it. read more

Okay, This place has a new name. Lolo and Lola's - which is Filipino (there is a framed picture of the Pope in the Philippines). While not super big, there is a decent amount of washer and dryers. This can be a problem if someone comes with 8 garbage bags of clothes as I witnessed this past weekend. While not big, there are places to fold clothes and sit. Vending for soap and sodas. Great location, tons of nearby food options. Parking can be a challenge, but it is along the road. Very quiet and clean. Affordable price. Free wifi! read more

I wish I could give this 0 stars. I been here so many times but this last experience was horrible. One of the machines took $5 from Me it's one of the larger machines. When I called the owner he implied I was lying. He even called me back and said "I saw you on camera standing in front of the machine and taking your clothes back out. I found that weird." I replied "great, you have cameras. Then you also saw me put $5 in there and it never started. Which is why I took my clothes back out" He then replies "what do you think we do watch the cameras all day!?" I was furious. I'm pretty sure he's a racist. read more

I have been giving this business a chance for roughly a year but always felt I was being treated poorly by the male owner. About a year ago, I was speaking to my girlfriend on my cell and it was obvious He was listening in on that conversation. Ever since that day, when I have chanced to use this place to wash my clothes, I noticed a difference in the way he treats me vs. other customers. So fast forward to today. I go in to do my laundry this morning and the change machine eats my $10 bill. Okay, no problem, it's 8:30 am, someone should be coming in around 9AM- I should get my money back, no problem? Wrong. The owner comes in, I tell him about the machine, He tells me He'll "check it out"... approximately 15 minutes goes by and I wait. Meanwhile, I had to use my $20 bill in the other change machine to dry my laundry. Then I watch as the owner CONTINUES to make me wait and helps other WHITE, STRAIGHT customers that are bringing in laundry to be washed. Then he starts up a conversation with ANOTHER WHITE CUSTOMER, that is washing her laundry...Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for my money to be returned. So, I finally tell the owner that "I need my money back please". He then tells me, "He'll get to it when he has as moment, " while he continues to weigh and prepare the other customers' laundry to be washed. I told him that, "I'm sorry but I've been waiting a long time, I'd like my money back now." The owner then tells me: "You're still doing your laundry and waiting anyway. I'll get to it when I have a moment. Be Civil" THAT IS WHEN I GOT MAD! So that is when I told him what I had observed: That all of the WHITE customers had been helped but I was here first and had been waiting. He then tries to ignore me and continue with weighing the other customers' laundry. I told him again, " I want my money back and I bet if I had blonde hair and blue eyes, I wouldn't be waiting this long." By this time the WHITE lady that was washing her laundry, decides to chime in " Guess your having a bad day!". Now, I ask you, HOW WOULD YOU HAVE FELT?? I GOT MAD. PERIOD. I told the other lady that she was treated well and I'm STILL waiting for my money to be returned. Then another WOMAN OF COLOR just happens to come in. I told her everything that had happened. She listened because she understood what I was talking about. SHE was "OF COURSE", treated well by the owner. So which is it Sir? Is it because you know I'm Gay or because my skin is brown? OR both?? I AM CERTAIN that I was 'CIVIL' until I was DISCRIMINATED AGAINST. I was not rude or loud or mad until TREATED DIFFERENTLY than the other WHITE customers that came in AFTER me. I was treated like I was UNWELCOME WITHOUT JUST CAUSE. RACISM can be subtle. I am a very understanding, compassionate, out, lesbian American of Mexican heritage. This was so blatant that today is the FIRST day in YEARS that I felt like I was living in another era where people without light skin had to 'sit at the back of the bus'. I'm certain that the male OWNER of this business will be sure to treat ALL customers EQUALLY from here on; which, of course, He will assert has been done all along. I'm not standing for it in 2012 Sir, not by a long shot. Don't give racism your cash people. This DID happen, I felt strongly enough about this incident to document it here. read more

The Highlights: Kid Friendly Snacks and Wifi Very Clean Reliable Open Early Downside: Parking can be tough during the work day, so go early or late. As far as coin laundries in the Berkeley area, The Laundromat is my favorite. They're open at 6am, unlike others closer to my house in North Berkeley. There are plenty of rolling baskets, and best of all it's always clean. Way, way cleaner than the others I've been to. I've never arrived and all the machines were full. It's also a good sign that rarely are machines out of service, and when one is, it gets fixed in a timely manner (....unlike Holiday Coin Laundry on University...NEVER go there, omg.......). The WiFi is legit, there is a snack machine and some books provided to pass the time. Only downside is that there is only street parking, and Solano gets busy during the day. There is a unloading spot reserved right in front of the door. Bonus: They keep a stack of children's books, a rolly lady bug toy to ride on, and child size chairs in the corner.
