Sunday brunch on a mild summer morning the family and I were privy to a treat. We arrived early hoping that we could beat the Sunday brunch rush. We were right on time. We chose to be seated outside on the patio. Its heated so it was very pleasant. We had never been here before so we were surprised to see the amount and size of the dishes. They were huge. We ordered french toast, pancakes and eggs. The amount of food that you get for 10 bucks (price of a order of pancakes/french toast) was well worth it. We honestly could have shared plates and would have still been full. The food arrived at a reasonable time and the waitress was very accomodating. I will go back to a brunch or two in the future, maybe i'll see what the regular menu is like. With the location being so close to the lake and the lower east side parking can be a bit of a hassle. But no worries. The food and hospitality should make up for it. read more

I am usually ambivalent about hotel restaurants; re: I tend to overlook these places or think of them more as a "last resort" sort of place. After seeing the (fantastic) Beyond Van Gogh show in downtown Milwaukee, we were struggling to find a local place for dinner on short notice. Most places were fully booked or do not take reservations. Being downtown, we wanted to grab dinner in the city. Thanks to a quick Google search we found the Knick. We gave them a call, found out they had seating available and headed on over. I was surprised to see it was a "hotel restaurant" but, the location was nice, and seats available both inside and outside. We were seated right by the entrance which I am not a fan of. The team was very quick to move us to another table, upon request. Overall, I am glad we decided to give this place a shot. The service was a bit hit or miss - younger waitstaff so perhaps inexperienced and could have checked on us more frequently but...very friendly and no major complaints on the service-front. They had a fun, specialty drink menu. Highly recommend the "Knuck if you Buck" drink made with Van Gogh Pomegranate Vodka! I appreciated the more uncommon menu options such as the tofu salad which I ended up ordering and the ramen/noodle bowl with pork that my BF selected. Slowest service ever. Had to flag down another waitress to get more condiments and to get our check because ours wouldn't come to the table. We got stuck out on the patio because it was a busy Sunday morning and while it was heated, there were too many tables in too small of a space. My boyfriend liked his salmon Benedict, but my pancakes were a little weird, they didn't taste like usual pancakes, missing that buttermilk taste, leaving them a little dry in your mouth. The Knick is a local gem of Milwaukee. The inside area is very cute and has a beautiful bar area. Due to being attached to a hotel there are often business people working in the bar area. We enjoyed sitting outside on the patio to enjoy the fall air. We ordered our margaritas during happy hour which is 3-6 Monday-Friday and includes many $3-5 drinks. They also have an appetizer special on Monday from 6-10, which includes half off apps. We double dipped by ordering drinks before 6 and ordering apps after 6. We definitely enjoyed this super affordable meal and will be back, especially on Mondays. read more

Had a great experience for brunch this past Saturday, Aug. 2023, at The Knick. The atmosphere was quiet enough that our table was able to have conversations at a normal voice level. The food was very good, we had Biscuits and gravy, a fruit and granola bowl, as well as a lox sandwich. We also tried a specialty brunch cocktail, Golden rush? Went to celebrate a special occasion for dinner at The Knick last night. While it was good there were a lot of things that could have made it great. The restaurant takes reservations on OpenTable which is always helpful. The Knick is located inside the Knickerbocker Hotel close to the Lake and a short walk from the Hop Streetcar. The decor is very soft and comfortable​ with dark paint and wood making you instantly feel at home. There is also a full bar to the right and they do offer valet parking. However,​ a few of the tables (sadly ours was one of them) are located in front of the door and whenever someone walks in the Wisconsin winter air blows in and can be freezing. I spent our entire dinner with my coat on to combat the air (the place was full so another table wasn't an option). I noticed our tablemate was doing the same. The food was pretty good steak and the ​pork chop was​ a tad overdone but still seasoned well and enjoyable. Our server however efficient​ was not very friendly. She never asked what we were celebrating (even though it was on our reservation that we were celebrating a special occasion). When she did check on our table she was on her way to another table and it was apparent she didn't want to stop. So atmosphere great, food good, service meh. I had their Chinese chicken salad. Yuck. It looked great. But it lacked not only Chinese ingredients but flavor. It needed bok choy or edamame or chow mein noodles or sliced almonds as all the Knick had were lettuces, a smattering of tiny tiny white things that might have been a noodle but had zero taste, a couple of Mandarin oranges and chicken. The Knick offers good food at fair prices in a stylish setting. It is located in The Knickerbocker Hotel, a 1929 building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building may be historic, but the restaurant has a contemporary and cozy decor. The menu is big on comfort food. If you like the Tater Tots you get in the store aisle, you might not like The Knick's big, potatoey tots, but they are delicious. Salads are generous and fresh, and I enjoy their Chicken Cobb. The Knick offers many burger and sandwich options, most of which fall into the range of $13 to $16. (The Cuban is quite good.) The Knick also offers larger main courses, if you're in the mood, and their Friday Fish Fry is plentiful and tasty ($13 for cod and $18 for perch.) Service has been a little consistent. The place sometimes feels a little understaffed during busier hours. And I've had some mixed luck with cocktails at the bar--I was not impressed with the Manhattan, but others I've dined with have loved their Lillehammer and Strawberry Rhubarb Smash. Visit the Knick, enjoy a good bite, and if you have time and the weather is nice, take a stroll around the historic Yankee Hill neighborhood. Usually I'm not one to expect much from hotel restaurants, but the food at the Knick was excellent. We had reservations and showed up about 20 minutes early, and they kindly were able to seat us not long after we arrived. They have a fairly varied menu, with some really decently priced options, especially among their burgers/sandwiches. I opted for the Short Rib which was absolutely delicious. One of those dishes where both the main star and the sides were on point. The short rib melted in your mouth and the brussels sprouts were perfectly caramelized. I'd definitely recommend that dish. We also had their after-dinner dessert drinks, basically dessert martinis, and those are also very good. Overall, it was a very satisfying meal, with impeccable service. read more

Good bye forever, Knick! Over the years, we've probably dining at the Knick 50+ times. Each time has been great! Until today today was horrible and we will never go back and we will tell our friends. We will refuse service because we had our service dog with us, and they requested papers which no one carries. I'm pretty sure it's against the law to ask for them. This is the same service dog that just flew on a plane with us. The manager was rude, and she would not budge because we did not have papers. We were going to eat outside on their patio. First time trying out the Knick for brunch and my husband and I loved it. We were seated on the patio by a manager. It's street-facing so there's lots to see and it was quiet and peaceful on the patio. We tried the Brussel Sprouts- much more of a small leafy salad than full sprouts but still delicious! My husband had the Reuben and thought it was good. I had the Salmon Sandwich which was a little difficult to eat but only because it was packed with delicious ingredients Lots of parking options in the area. The only downside was no one was wearing masks inside or outside. Our server, Vera, was great too! My best friend and I came here during lunch hours! We decided to order two different sandwiches and split them. I also ordered an iced chai and she ordered a coffee. When our drinks came out, and she finished her coffee, so it must've been good! My iced chai was farthest from what an iced chai is. It tasted overly artificial and really weird. There was this artificial sweetener initial taste and lingering aftertaste! I sent it back. The meals that we ordered were a chicken pita and a roasted turkey sandwich. Both were phenomenal and tasted great! The waffle fries with the chicken pita were seasoned amazingly well, and it came with this wonderful cucumber yogurt sauce! The turkey sandwich, which has a lemon herb aïoli, was ordered with a caesar side salad with the dressing on the side! This turkey sandwich had an abundance of fresh avocado on it, which I really appreciate! The bread was also lightly toasted. Even though I did not enjoy my iced chai, our waitress gave us spectacular service and the food was amazing! We also asked for another cucumber yogurt because we had just devoured the first one! I will definitely be returning! One tip is to look for parking on Prospect, which is not far of a walk, but parking around the restaurant immediately is hard to find. read more

Very sad to give them 2 stars, because I've enjoyed their food and would have given a 4 if I would have posted a review from a few months ago. Ooops I've been here 3 or 4 times in the past. The first time service was great and I really enjoyed the food we've also had delivery in the past. However here is the issue last time we went in for dinner around 6-6:30 majority of the things on the menu they were out of which sucked. Because their bacon scallop are so delicious But tonight our service was so bad to the point that they would even send a new order we delivered. When we called about the issue a manager got on the phone informed us that had to drive in and bring the food in order to have it remade, if we wanted to eat out I'm guessing we would have eaten our dinner there instead of having delivery. But any who back to this issue.... we drive over there and go inside for the issue with the food met the host who then got the manager (Liz) who then came out to speak. SIDE NOTE: she had food in her mouth chewing or maybe it was gum but either way one of us was enjoying dinner (eye roll). She then goes to say that the food is ordered threw an online platform then online company calls it in. Okay we get that, so who took the order when it was called in, Liz says she took it and we asked her to repeat the order, which was correct when she read it, however the issue is what was made and delivered was different. She misled us into believing it was the online platform which we used through Yelp. So it's not the online platform we've ordered in the past about a dozen times. At this point we just wanted a refund and not bother with reordering because I was hungry and didn't have the energy to deal with the blame game. It would have been best to just remake the order before we got there (meaning taken it over the phone to correct the issue). That would have made a happy customer even if we had to take it in, but having to drive over there take the food only to then have to wait while it's done is annoying. I wish I could rate your 3 categories separately. Food was as terrific as always and ambiance is lovely. Was sad to say our service wasn't as topnotch as it has been in the past. I just want to say though that 4 adults plus a toddler is considered a "LARGE GROUP" for this restaurant. Despite the less than great service, a 20% gratuity is added automatically to the bill. My husband and I decided to go to the Knick for Brunch earlier today. I called ahead to see I we needed a reservation and the gentleman that answered the phone told me they were not busy at this time so we would not need one! We arrived at 1:30 pm and we were sat right away ... and then we waited, and waited and finally went to talk to the hostess to see if we were going to be taken care of but she was busy talking with a young man at the bar. When I finally was able to get her attention, she said yes, and walked away. Asked her about the specials that were scrolling across the screen at the hostess stand and she said she couldn't see what I was looking at because it was facing me not her and I would have to ask the server what the specials are and on which day. Kinda of odd that you wouldn't train the hostess on daily specials. The manager was also incompetent. Unfortunate because the wait staff is always wonderful and the food is good but one rude employee can ruin it. We arrived about 11 on a Sunday. The restaurant appeared busy, but when we told the host we did not have a reservation, they said it was no problem & we were seated immediately. My husband doesn't love breakfast food, but they only had their brunch menu until 3, but it was ok. He ordered the crab hash with eggs & toast & was very happy with it. I ordered huevos rancheros & it was delicious! It did seem to take a little while for the food to come out, but they were busy so it seemed understandable. The waitress was very good checking on us often enough, but not too much, while we waited. We would definitely recommend & plan to return ourselves. read more

My fiancee and i came here on a tuesday night for happy hour, our first time visiting. It wasnt busy at all and our waitress was fairly attentive towards us. I started out with the its 5 o clock somewhere martini which was excellent and my fiancee ordered the truffle burger,which he loved and i ordered the turkey burger which i enjoyed very much!! Overall a 5 star. However, we decided to go again Friday for happy hour and unfortunately we missed it...but we decided to order anyways and the restaurant was fairly busy this time. My bf ordered a salad and wings and i decided to try the 4 cheese ravioli. So this is why the 1 star comes in..i ordered the same martini and it took about 10 minutes to get it and it was very strong! The raviolis were absolutely awful. They were frozen raviolis warmed up in a oil based sauce...with raw artichokes...mushy tomatoes amd zucchini. What kind of authentic pasta dish comes served with veggies amd no actual pasta sauce. This was the most awful dish ive had. They need to remove that from the menu. We shouldn't have had to pay for that plus the terrible service we reveived. read more

Worst dining experience I've ever had. After 20+ trips to the Knick over the years with nothing but positive things to say, the most recent visit was the last. I've never experienced such a rude server and manager. When my daughter's toast arrived they had given her the heels of the bread - not actual bread. When I asked for toast with regular bread, the server returned with burned toast. I was told this is just how they make toast at the Knick, though the first round of "toast" was not burned, nor was the table's next to us. When I asked for unburned toast with regular bread, she returned with bread, not toasted at all. She dropped it on the table, said "this is all we've got", spun around and walked away. A manager was requested to come talk to us and was just a joke. He informed us that burned toast is just how they do it - snidely laughing and said he could take the $1.50 side of toast off the bill. While the food was disgusting, the rudeness far exceeded the issues with the food and the table next to us also had taken note and complained to the manager. As a former server (and human being in general), I could never imagine treating others this way. I would be embarrassed and ashamed to employ people like this server and manager. read more

The Knick and Harry's are owned by the same dude, and are amongst the best restaurants in milwaukee. My friend managed Harry's for years. I never had a bad meal at either of these places. For some reason I recently revisited these restaurants. I wasn't on the east side too much. I ate at The Knick today and had their blackened salmon special. It's the best salmon in Milwaukee, yet it's the consistency that separates these restaurants from others. Steady good service and good food. Pros: Great food, delicious coffee, very friendly service, sunny, outdoor seating. Cons: SLOW service. I ordered a Bloody Mary and received it 27 minutes later. Yes, really. Coffee (and refills) took nearly as long. They seem to have a decent number of servers, but service appeared to be inefficient. A owner/manager repeatedly passed through tables with empty hands while he could've simply taken away dirty dishes or filled empty coffee cups. That said, the food WAS darned tasty! read more

The waiter was super cool and the atmosphere eclectic. I went here for brunch with a friend and ordered a delicious meal. The proportions were good and the seasoning was perfect. The Knick is a great spot for date night or group dining. We visited for a little Sunday date night recently and the food was great as usual, we shared the hummus appetizer which is a favorite of ours, so flavorful. For my entree I did the tuna tartare appetizer and a side of their waffle fries and loved both. My fiancé got the Lobster Ravioli which he really enjoyed as well. I had a Sauvignon Blanc this time for drinks but enjoy their cocktails also. While the food was great, our service was a little off - we had a reservation and requested the patio if available (I know it's not always available to reserve) but it seemed like we were the only reservation at the time and we ended up being the only table sat inside. After about 10 minutes at the table we hadn't been greeted by any servers but the host did come over eventually to tell us a table outside opened up which we were grateful for as it was a nice day. I was very disappointed in my experience at the Knick and will certainly not return. I ordered a beet salad and asked to have scallops added. There was another salad on the menu with scallops that was $19 but had meat on it, which I don't eat. The beet salad was $13. When the bill came, my salad was $32!! I asked the server about this and she flippantly said seafood is expensive in the Midwest, people should know it's going to add a lot. I asked her why the other scallop salad was $19 and she said that's what we added, $19 for 3 scallops! I told her that doesn't make any sense and she simply said, sorry, and walked away!
