Most delicious brunch in this town. The banana foster french toast was to die for! The hostest was polite and let us know there was call ahead seating. We sat outside on the side of the building which was so enjoyable! Our server Stephanie was knowledgeable about the menu and helped us pick the perfect meal for our Sunday brunch, although I don't think we could've made a bad decision. My husband ordered the banana foster french toast. The whole meal was so delicious you didn't want it to end. The whip cream was amazing, the french toast was like dessert, and the syrup was to die for!! It was sweet but not too sweet. I ordered the salmon hash with an extra egg. I'm a savory kind of breakfast person, so this was perfect for me. The menu describes it perfectly. Both were big meals and filled us up!! This was our 2nd visit against my husband's wishes. The first time, our food was good - we had the shaved ham and Brie sandwich and arugula salad. However, we sat near the kitchen and witnessed the waitress drop toast - then scrape off the burnt toast ends into the garbage. Next visit, no refills on water - asked 3 times. I asked for a side other than waffle fries and they said they could do a side salad for a slight up-charge - I should have asked the price - it was $6 - so $19 for a chicken lunch meat sandwich and side salad. My husband ordered the Garden Eggs Benedict - eggs were hard boiled not poached and the sauce was bland - not the smoky/tomato sauce listed, the potatoes were burnt, cold and salty. My daughter's tomato bisque soup was more of a chunky tomato soup - not creamy. Very disappointed in the service and overall quality of the food for the price. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday and there was a 35 minute wait. We decided to wait and shop in the lovely vinegar and olive oil store a few doors down. My dining companion liked the veggie benedict and I did not care for my burger. The meat was quite red inside and the bun on the bottom was totally soggy and there were scant fries and it seemed like they were the end of a batch. I sent the burger back to be cooked a bit longer and the burger arrived with a new bun and no fries. The first bun was burnt on the top as well. For a very long time, I've heard rumblings of the awesomeness of this place. Finally, today I got my taste. And, hey, it was great! A group of 7 of us got together for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We sat outside because, well, it was beautiful out; but also because they couldn't fit a group our size together at one table. The two pieces of toast were a nice add-on. But let's talk about this peach jam. This jam stole the show! It was so good; and I'm so glad I made the decision to get some for my toast. Others in my party had all kinds of other things ranging from the eggs Benedict to the BIG stack of fruit-topped pancakes. The salmon hash was very tempting. I've been told any of the dishes with the salmon are tasty! Oh, and let me not forget about the side of homemade spicy sausage. If you're a sausage guy/gal like me, do yourself a favor and get a side of this thick, meaty sausage. Lots of flavor. The service was wonderful, too... We arrived here around lunch time on a Saturday. We got street parking right in front. It was busy and we had to wait about five minutes. We got to our table and were greeted right away. I got a coffee and it came out quickly. It was good coffee. I ordered their kitchen salad and tomato soup. I asked for the soup first and I received it with in three minutes. It was really good and flavorful. It hit the spot for me. The kitchen salad got here within about 10 minutes and it was great. Just what I needed something filling and refreshing. The greens were crispy and fresh. The strawberries and honey almonds gave it a tasty sweetness but not too sweat. I really enjoyed this salad. I ate everything. It was a really good lunch. The restaurant was clean and I look forward to coming back here again to try out their other food. One other thing my wife got poached eggs here and they cooked the eggs perfectly. Called ahead yesterday to inquire about their operations during COVID since we were driving from Jeannette & we were pleased to know we could get on the waitlist! By the time we arrived, our table was ready and the staff were all following guidelines, honestly better than I've seen anywhere! This was our second visit. Once again we ordered the hummus and again it was delicious. We tried the crispy Brussels and they were delicious. The aioli was delicious. My wife had the Reuben and it was delicious. I wish I could think of a better description but it will work. I had the chicken sandwich and the chicken was moist and the bread was super soft. Just a little heavy on the salt with the rueben but not enough to dock a star. The portions are big and prevented us from having dessert. But the visit was great. The service was outstanding. A couple months ago, on a long weekend getaway, my wife and I stopped here for an early lunch. We had heard good reviews and there was a consistent crowd out front. We were able to get in quickly. The food was very tasty. The breakfast tacos reignited my love for Cholula hot sauce even. I enjoyed every aspect of eating here. The only reason it's 4 stars and not 5 is the lack of friendly staff. The hostess and the waitress were both somewhat unfriendly and short, and seemed bothered to answer any questions pertaining to the menu. The Kitchen on Main (Street) in Ligonier was recommended to me by the folks at Valley School as being the best place in the area for lunch. They knew from what they spoke. This is a warmly decorated, large front windowed, long countered, open kitchened, and French-feelinged, restaurant where daily creativity is on the menu. They erected a half glass wall between the patrons at the counter and the hot stove within touching distance, just so the urge to reach out and grab a hot skillet would be stymied. But, it does not inhibit the salivary reaction to all the great things going on behind the glass. I ate my very enjoyable lunch special Fish and Chips and a cup of Onion Soup Gratinee, as they were preparing the Roast Fingerling Potatoes for dinner. I had first hand experience of why that wall was installed. The service was great, friendly and informative. The people there obviously enjoyed their work. My meal was very good. The Cod had a light herbed shell that easily broke apart when picked up with fork. They had an interesting spicy Tartar Sauce, and when asked, they gave me a small dish of Balsamic Vinegar for dipping, as I prefer that to the mayo and relish I was expecting. I used both and even mixed them together. Both were fine. This was not an inexpensive repast, as I dropped about $20 with the tip. Still, for a meal that good, in a town this historic and attractive, on a vacation weekend....What the hey?! I would do it again, and probably will. read more

We made reservations for 5PM on a beautiful Saturday for a birthday party of 8. The hostess, waitress and the rest of the staff were all very accommodating from the very beginning. $3 per person corking fee is more than reasonable, especially considering the amount of alcohol we had to celebrate. My wife and I split a tasty beer salad and tried some of the other appetizers on the table including the oysters and a blue cheesecake special, all of which we enjoyed. For dinner we had the scallops and a perfectly cooked lamb chop dish. I also tried a bite of the salmon and filet entrees and everyone raved about their meals. For dessert, they not only let us bring in our own birthday cake. They sliced, played, and served it. Menu states this is $2 per person which is fair but they didn't even charge us. We all had a wonderful cup of coffee to go with it. Next time we're in the area, we will definitely be back. It's a relatively small restaurant with seating for maybe 45-50 people total, so make sure to have a reservation with their limited hours. read more

The sausage chunks were fantastic, the ham had a great flavor, the potatoes were perfectly cooked with some cheddar cheese, onions and red peppers tossed in. We come here every chance we get when we are visiting home and everyone in my family looks forward to going here for breakfast. All nostalgia aside this place still deserves five stars. I've never had anything less than great here, the menu is creative yet accessible, the staff are extremely friendly, service is top notch and the food is excellent. The first place we visited on a weekend get away and decidedly the best restaurant in town! The meal started with soups. Warm, hearty and so flavorful; he had the tomato basil and I had the Tuscan chicken. Perfect on a cold winter day. The lunch entrees were salmon burger with the sweet potato fries, and the pear salad with grilled chicken added (sorry, I forgot the names of dishes on the menu). We were both very pleased with the wonderful tastes and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. So I took my wife out to dinner on her Birthday, to the Kitchen on Main, Ligonier. We had reservations for 7PM, were told orders to kitchen shut off at 8 PM. My wife ordered Grouper, listed as "Pan Roasted Grouper, Maple Glazed Potato Puree, Jimaca Slaw, Mango Chutney, Passion Fruit Hollandaise" for $32. She asked that the Sweet Potato be omitted, and a side order of Grilled Broccolini substituted. I had the "Cast Iron Roasted Fillet Mignon, Sweet Onion, Smoked Blue Cheese & Potato Tart, Grilled Broccolini, Roasted Garlic Jus" for $36. Food arrived in reasonable time, but my wife's Broccolini was cold, sent back to be warmed; it came back after some time. She never had the "Jimaca Slaw, Mango Chutney, etc." The waitress disappeared. By now the two other sets of diners there left. My wife had to go to the Bar to request some lemon slices. The waitress never was attentive, disappeared. The kitchen help were engaged in a major clean-up, an employee was actively sweeping the floor during our meal. By now, around 7:35-7:40 we were the only diners remaining, made to feel "hurry up, eat, get out". A person (Management) sitting all the time at the Bar, working on a laptop computer never addressed us addressed us through the meal though within hearing of our grumbles; but she bade "Have a good night" to my back, sarcastically, as I was finally exiting. I'd tipped appropriately for the bill totaling $78 with corkage. Both my wife and I felt the Grouper and Fillet were of reasonable quality, cooked to our requirements, but sorely disappointed at service for price, and a management person who obviously heard our critical comments but made no move to assuage them. Great food, but a warning to parents about music selection. We discovered The Kitchen on Main last summer and built it into our schedule for our trip to Ligonier this summer. The food and service did not disappoint. Both were top-shelf. The menu was varied and kid-friendly (the breakfast offerings were welcome) and the food was a delicious and served in a timely manner. The server was attentive and went the extra mile for our girls. I wasn't paying attention to the ambient music until I went to the bathroom, where it was quieter, just at the moment when a singer belted out, "Pick up the f*****g phone!" It was jarring. Thankfully, it would not have been easy to hear above the din of the restaurant. I told the manager about it, assuming, quite naturally, that the restaurant does not vet every song in their music service, and would want to know about this. She first apologized "that you heard that." But then added, "Our music is not G-rated." "Well, you've got kids here," I responded. "Yes," she said, flatly, and turned back to her work. The more I thought about this, I wondered, "Why ISN'T their music G-rated?" What ambience is the restaurant hoping to create by playing music with profane lyrics? It would be one thing if The Kitchen on Main was a club, but this restaurant has zero edge; the profane music is off-brand. It makes me wonder, then, for whom is the music is being played? Is it the patrons, or the staff? This is one of the better little restaurants we've discovered anywhere; there is no upside to patrons in spoiling the experience by creating, or allowing, a profane ambience. read more

I've been to The Kitchen dozens of times and this is one of the few places where I've never been disappointed. The food is always so fresh and delicious. The menu has some really amazing options for vegetarian and meat eaters alike as well. I've always found that my food comes to the table VERY quickly and is perfectly cooked to order. I particularly love coming to The Kitchen for breakfast or lunch. I've tried most of the things on the menu, all of which have been wonderful.
