Hot beef sandwich- gravy over everything- it's the only way.

We still visit at least once a year with my parents. One isn't going here for the healthiest meal, but you WILL be treated to some "stick-to-your-ribs" kind of food. Three of our party ordered the chicken fried steak dinner with sausage gravy and mashed potatoes. A choice of salad or vegetable is also included. My son got the fish and chips basket, my mother ordered the turkey dinner and I opted for the hot beef sandwich. Wow- I will always order the hot beef. It was old school and comforting. Coupled with a sweet tea- and I just felt like I had a food hug. I look forward to our next visit- and I plan to go for breakfast during my next visit to my parents' hometown.

Yum! Just your basic, old-school diner menu, executed really well. You walk in from the giant parking lot and immediately see some booths and counter service. More tables are found in the next room over toward your right. The tables are mostly those wooden/pressboard collapsible ones you see in churches and stuff. Anyway, we grabbed a table and our waitress came over, greeted us, and got us coffee and juice. My nephew commented on the fact that, like several other places we visited in this part of PA, there were placemats with local advertisers on them. I don't think he's ever seen them before! But I digress. When presented with the opportunity to have sausage gravy and biscuits, I take it. The small is one biscuit, the large is two. Need you guess what I ordered? Other orders at the table included pancakes, French toast, a breakfast sandwich, and a blueberry muffin. Lemme just tell you - it was all fabulous! My mom loved her pancakes, my niece devoured her French toast, the breakfast sandwich was ginormous, and we all took turns stealing bites of my nephew's blueberry muffin. But the sausage gravy was the best! Every bite was so yummy! How to describe it? Creamy, salty, sausage-y? I don't know, but it was awesome. We were all pretty thrilled with our breakfast - definitely a spot to stop at if you're in/passing thru Ligonier.

Don't expect any frills here. Definitely a locals hang-out. Given that there are not many choices in the area, they maintain a steady flow of business. Location is the main thing this place has going for it. Quality of food is hit or miss. It's almost impossible to know when your order will be in the hit category. Breakfast is probably a safe bet. Service is fast and efficient. They have a horrifyingly jolting buzzer that goes off each time an order is ready. Irritating to say the least. Place overall is pretty worn-out. There is a sign on the ladies restroom alerting you that the door doesn't always lock. Not that complicated to fix. I could almost give them a pass if they at least served a good cup of coffee. Cash only.

A great find in Ligonier. A piece of old hometown nostalgia. Great food and big portions. Super friendly staff.

If you follow my reviews, you know I'm a fan of old-school diners, the classics, and honest home-cooked food. Summit hits all three marks, serving straightforward and delicious American standards since the 1960s. The three-egg omelet loaded with veggies and sausage was exactly the pre-ski power-up I needed. My son stuck with his go-to breakfast burrito, and my daughter went with the classic two eggs, bacon, and potatoes. Everything was spot on. The staff has just the right level of "WWA"--Waitresses With Attitude. They are perfectly polite, but they hold the line on proper behavior and will quickly put anyone in their place if they step out of line. It keeps the environment grounded and authentic. A few tips for your visit: * Seating: Expect to wait for a table in the lobby or outside during peak hours. * Payment: Bring your wallet--this is a cash-only establishment.

However, since I was touring a few Frank Lloyd Wright houses, I had not eaten since my early morning continental breakfast at the Comfort Inn in Connellsville. Mindlessly following the Google Maps directions, I arrived in a town called Indian Head and didn't have any expectations about what I'd find in this family-friendly roadside diner. Without hesitation, I ordered the $13.99 Grilled Chicken Salad. I was quite impressed with what arrived. There were huge pieces of grilled chicken breast, tender and moist, with cucumber, lettuce, cherry tomatoes, onions, beets, shredded cheddar, and a pickled egg with ranch dressing on the side (Photo 9). Sounds basic, I know, but it was hearty, fresh, and genuinely satisfying. Midway through my salad, a plate of fries arrived (Photo 10). I wasn't expecting it, but the server apologized for the delay. I only noticed later that the fries were mentioned in the menu. I certainly didn't mind because they were hot, tasty, and not at all greasy. Even though I was getting full and kinda anxious to get going, I was rather hypnotized by the refrigerator of freshly made pies. I just couldn't help myself and ordered a $4.29 slice of Banana Meringue Pie (Photo 8). I don't think I've had homemade pie that good since gorging at Valois back in my olden grad school days in the South Side of Chicago. What a nice surprise to have such a delicious square meal in a place called Indian Head. Maybe it was good at some point or, maybe we had a really off day, but our experience was pretty subpar. Our server seemed like she had no idea what was going on and that she didn't want to be there that day. At one point, another server brought something over and my daughter asked "is our server new" and the other server said no, she had been there several years. So there was no excuse for not knowing answers to basic questions on menu items. None of our food was bad, but none of it was great, either. Everything was just OK. Not much flavor and pretty generic. Things like pancakes that you think couldn't get screwed up were boring and flavorless. Our last hope was the "famous" pies that our server told us about several times. When we asked about what flavors they had that day, she said she had to check (which seemed odd after telling us about them several times). Then she had to go back and check the flavors again because she forgot them. We did end up trying boston cream pie and dutch apple pie and they were both OK, but not anything that I couldn't find somewhere else. Overall, really disappointed in basically everything about our visit here.
