Something different to do in Bakersfield. Cooking class... sign us up. If your interested make reservations... limited space. Love that they send reminders to your phone/ email so you don't forget. The staff is very friendly, Chef Richard is very knowledgeable. Love that you can ask him anything , and he answers your questions. Not like Gordon Ramsay on "Hells Kitchen" at all. This is a great event for a date nite, hangout with girlfriends , or something adventurous. Fun and interactive. I loved learning new skills ; for example how to hold a knife properly , cracking eggs and etc. ; all little tips most of us don't really think about, when we're in the Kitchen. The food tasted great, good presentation. Excellent socializing event. So fun and cool to mingle with strangers in Bako. Start off as strangers and leave as friends. My only tip would be to make the audience do more of the cooking .

A group of us booked a special dinner party at The Kitchen. None of us had ever been there, so this was something new for all! We walked in and smelled a delicious aroma....something was already cooking! Richard and Kim greeted us as we walked in. The place was very cozy. It had all the kitchen equipment that we would be using to prepare our dinner but it also had a table set up for our food prep with little aprons waiting for us. There was a separate table set up for us to eat our dinner after we were all done. We had ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizers, so those came shortly after we opened our first bottle of wine and before we got started cooking (this is what was cooking when we first arrived). They were delicious! We just chatted with each other until Richard asked us to find a spot at the food prep area where we would get started. Richard walked us through everything! He showed us the correct way to hold the knife (I did not know there was such a thing), how to cut vegetables correctly, how and where to cut meat so it would taste better and so much more!! He was very friendly and knowledgeable! We all participated in some of the food prep together and there were other things that only a couple of us participated in. We had the choice to get really involved or not. Even for those who are very inexperienced in the kitchen, it was fun and educational!! I learned a lot...and I really don't like to cook. When it was time to sit down and eat, Kim and Richard brought the food that WE ALL cooked to us on individually plated plates. They put their own little flair to the plates, which made them look fancy schmancy!! I didn't know I could cook something that looked so beautiful!! Thanks Richard and Kim! We finally got to eat our creations...OMG!! Everything was delicious!! I can't believe I can actually cook good food!! :) We enjoyed chatting and eating our delicious food that WE cooked! Richard and Kim came around and checked on us to make sure we all were doing okay as we were eating. They also joined in on some of our conversation, which was very nice! Richard is super funny and I just love his laugh! My husband said he wants to hang out with him more...he said he is very interesting! I would strongly recommend this place to anyone that wants to enjoy a nice night out with friends and learn some new things. I can't wait until our next visit!

Such an amazing experience, left with cooking/baking techniques im happy to put to use. Chef Richard was very entertaining and knowledgeable.

After emailing and texting with Darci to finalize everything the night finally arrived and Darci and her staff were absolutely amazing! The food was absolutely delicious and it was a lot of fun cooking it ourselves! This type of event is so much fun because you're not just sitting at a table waiting for your meal but we all participated and helped cook every part of the meal from appetizers to the main meal, even including the dessert!! The staff served us really well, you'd never know we were only their third party at this location! Every part of the event was a lot of fun! I highly recommend The Kitchen to anyone wanting to have some sort of get-together, girls night, date night, even kids events that is out of the ordinary and a lot of fun! We want The Kitchen to succeed and stay so please book an event here!! Check out their website for more information! TheKitchenBakersfield.com Yay!!

We did a birthday dinner here and we had the best time. We made a salad entree and learned different methods of chopping. For our main, panko crusted chicken with a butter lemon sauce topped with arugula and sided with potatoes. And for dessert, we made a blueberry cobbler. We had such a fun time I'm going to bring my family back so we can come for my birthday. Darci's awesome!

Perfect place to host a private party. In this case, a pharmaceutical symposium. Quiet, private, and comfortable location for an educational discussion. Spring menu was definitely appetizing.

The lovely table setting.

My husband planned a great birthday dinner for me with some of our closest friends! Owner Darci was wonderful! She made contact with him to find out about menu ideas. The evening was a very intimate setting with oil tealights everywhere. She was very accommodating about letting us bring in our own alcohol and wine (there is a corkage fee) and setting up a small bar area. Our food was prepared by Harry, while Steve kept our beverages full. Loved the cloth napkins and fresh flowers! The honey roasted Chili cashews, blanched almonds with truffle salt, and roasted baguette with baked brie and sauteed mushrooms WERE AMAZING appetizers as we mingled. The dinner salad was fresh and drizzled with a tasty dressing. The main course was filet mignon (garlic herb butter on top) accompanied with potatoes au gratin and roasted asparagus. Dessert was ice cream and a type of chocolate brittle that was also served with some butter cookies. Overall, it was an amazing time. I cannot say enough about her staff. They were wonderful. Very hardworking and there to answer any questions about the food, preparation, recipes, etc. Most defiantly a little gem of a place in the downtown area!! The Kitchen does not disappoint. It was a wonderful experience.

The experience I had been wanting to try for a while now, the one you've seen in movies, I finally got to try! Several of us couples made our way to The Kitchen to experience something new and learn a thing or two. The menu was planned ahead of time. We were greeted with a glass champagne. After all couples arrived, Darcy went over the menu & General instructions. After that, then came our turn to work! We began backwards with dessert. We prepped as a group and got those chocolate cakes in the oven. We moved on to corn cakes, steak, potatoes, and a delicious chimichurri dressing. Amazing.! I can say we all had a blast & learned something(s) new, & seeing the boys in apron was an added bonus! Overall, delicious food, unforgettable experience and a relaxing atmosphere, all led by a great teacher and her staff. Call your friends or sig'n other. You must try this!

Amazing experience, DELICIOUS food, with wonderful company. You MUST grab a few friends or your spouse for a date night.

The restaurant is operated by the Bakersfield Adult School and trains students in the preparation, cooking and the serving of gourmet and banquet dinning. It is opened when the Bakersfield school district is in session. In the morning, they always have hot coffee, tea, pastries and giant cookies to buy. The pastries are all baked on site and are just as good as any Parisian bakery could offer (I know since I've eaten plenty of croissants, pastries and bread while in Paris). These are the best pastries you can get in a 200 mile radius of Bakersfield! The menu is procured by the chef every week. Sometimes the food service is slow but it's okay since it is a teaching restaurant and the foods always make up for the service. Erin the host is always so warm to you and makes you feel welcomed and special. The location isn't the best and out of the way, but you are really doing yourself a disservice if you haven't been there. I will always be there when they offer their Rack of Lamb ($15.00!) on their lunch menu. On Tuesdays they do Grab and Go Service. You can always email them ahead of time to arrange for pick up too. I think it's fair to share with all past/current members that the you've been fed false information... These issues include: * Promises that cannot be made * Workers have to ensure no projects are broken as there are no backups * Inventory leaves no space or time for errors * Inventory is almost never sufficient, so workers are frantic * The children are rushed through lessons, instead of a 45min rotation as parents are told * Most of the time, teachers are completing the projects for the student * Overall unpreparedness/unorganization on the owner's part * Literally a sweatshop * The owner displays inappropriate behavior in front of members' children * Each of her employees are NOT background checked (this, I know to be true). I can confirm that 8 of her employees were never fingerprinted, myself included * She denied her employees 10min breaks (which is required by CA law) when asked * Her payroll has failed to be paid out to her emloyees as a business owner. When 7/8 of your employees refused to work under these conditions, you have to question what/who the real problem is. * When payroll is delayed, we (the workers) are made to feel guilty about the ownerms financial issues, yet she's out on vacations and throwing the responsibilities on the employees. * When problems arise and need to call, she does not pick up the phone
