I went with one of their standard pizzas a white pie with fresh garlic, honey, and other toppings that all worked beautifully together. Their sourdough pizza dough has been in the family for years from what we were told. The oven appears to be a brick oven (not sure if it's firewood or propane), but it has to be running at 1,000 degrees or more given the incredible crust. They also have a full bar with plenty of beer options. Parking is on a dirt lot across the street, with a small side lot as well. Service was excellent across the board. This is the type of spot that absolutely belongs on the TV show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. I can't say enough about how much we loved the food.

We found the Robin Hood Diner when we got off the highway at our destination, and were we ever pleased. Driving in you see that brick facade but walking inside is like tearing a page from the 1955 calendar. This place is history come alive. Welcome to one of the original Silk City diners, manufactured in Paterson, NJ from 1926-1966. As the brass plaque above the door attests, this was the 41st diner they built in 1955. And it has all the appearance of the day they toted it down Route 17 (how they got it under the bridge is a mystery). And here's the thing: not only is the building the real deal. So is the menu. I was tempted to try the meatloat, but opted for a burger. My wife took the owner, Jan, up on the roasted turkey sandwich ("You want that run through the garden?" "Run what, through where?" "Do you want it with lettuce, tomato and onion?"). Both were fresh and fabulous, and the service was quick. Best of all was meeting Jan and chatting with her about family and the history of the place. The Robin Hood Diner is a treasure, a focal point where friends and neighbors and visitors will all feel at home. We came back the next day for the annual car show, a memorial tribute to Jan's late son, Christopher. In between the 'Vettes and the Mustangs and all the friendly faces, we picked up a fresh-baked apple pie. The ride home was going to be a long one, and we don't have a Robin Hood Diner near us!

Once the 'zas arrived, the crust was excellent - it was clearly fermented for multiple days and had wonderful flavor on it's own. It was on the thin side, but not cracker. I chose the "My Italian Friend" which featured Prosciutto, garlic, onion, parmesan, tomato, and basil. It was fantastic - cooked perfectly, close to that Neapolitan style, but yet still seeming to channel a good NYC pie. Hard to explain but it worked well. The other was the White Album pizza (shoutout Beatles reference) which featured ramp pesto. We both felt that this wasn't as good as it should be (or, we had higher expectations for ramps than they delivered). The fundamentals of the pizza were still solid.
