Pamela to the rescue! My 16 year old blind lhasa apso is in the last stages of mouth cancer and we are feeling the stress and sadness of letting him go. This is such a great service for older dogs to be in their home environment and not around other dogs at a groomer. Pam jumped into her work providing him a safe space while he had to be shaved down and groomed. She was able to keep both of us calm while quickly getting through some intense matts and a bleeding tumor. Not a pleasant situation but Pamela went above and beyond helping him and working quickly to make sure he felt safe and cared for. She texted and called a half-hour before and was prompt. She even gave me a pair of grooming scissors to ensure that I watch the area around the tumor. I would highly recommend Pamela at The Joyful Hound in the Bay Area for top-notch service. read more

Pamela, The Joyful Hound owner is amazing! She has been grooming my two dogs for several years now. She always shows up when promised, and both of my dogs like & trust her very much. Charlie sporting a great new cut from The Joyful Hound. He is a rescue from Mexico and hated being groomed. Pamela is kind, thorough and quick which makes him less stressed. He looks great, and he is clean and less likely to get foxtails or burrs. Thanks Pamela, we will be in touch in 60 days for another great grooming experience! read more

Pamela is gentle and kind. My little senior Maltese is sensitive and came out of the grooming happy and looking adorable. And, it was less stressful for my dog (& me, since I worry) to have it outside our home, no cage, no wait! read more

Pamela is amazing! She's been grooming my dogs for over a decade. My pup Simon is a high anxiety poodle mix, and he is always calm and mellow for her. And he comes out of the truck looking so adorable and happy every time. She is also a lovely person and fun to talk with. I recommend Pamela and the Joyful Hound to anyone looking for a great grooming experience. read more

Pamela is awesome! Che is a 4 months schnauzer and looked absolutely amazing after his first cut. Groomers usually don't like to give puppies a cut. They say they are too young and won't stay still. But Pamela took the challenge and nailed it! She's very patient and kind. Che looked so cute that I cried. I am a happy client. Couldn't trust anyone else. Thank you so much Pamela! Pamela has groomed both my Miniature American Shepherd and my son's Labradoodle, and she did a great job on both of them...so she is skilled with both large and small dogs, and with different coat types. My dog is very comfortable with her, and her prices are reasonable. Her mobile shop is an added plus. read more

Pamela has been grooming my Chinese Crested Powder Puff for 3 years now and I've never had a bad experience with her. I find her to be dependable and easy to work with. We decided to go the mobile groomer route because our dog is very shy and has always been very stressed out by being groomed. She took to Pamela though. After just a few grooms Missy no longer needed her anxiety medication to get through being groomed. She comes back in clean, looking adorable, and happy. I can't ask for more than that. read more

We are so happy with the puppy cut that Pamela gave to our dog, Lucy. We appreciate her willingness to work with an older dog with with no previous grooming experience. We appreciate her coming to our home, in the hills and working with my wife, Katie, to make sure Lucy was comfortable with the process. Pamela called us right back, was very punctual and did a great job. We recommend the Joyful Hound! read more

Our cocker went through a pretty traumatizing experience with a past groomer, so we were extremely cautious when choosing the next person or business. While calling around I came across the Joyful Hound. Pamela really did an amazing job. She was patient, kind, and even let us assist her in the van; ensuring that our pup would be as stress-free as possible. Pamela did an outstanding job from beginning to end. We will absolutely be doing more business with Pamela moving forward. Highly recommend! read more

TRIED to schedule an appointment with Pamela to groom our cat and after a week, gave up. It's too bad because we had such a great experience last year. Unprofessional. read more

wonderful grooming services...and right at your home. Pamela is terrific and caring with the dogs. Highly recommend using this service!!

After having bad experiences at several pet salons around town, I called Pamela at Joyful Hound. While other groomers told me I'd have to completely shave my long-haired cat to get rid of the knots in his coat, Pamela was open to different solutions. She was immediately understanding and non-judgmental. She skillfully and lovingly cleaned my two cats -- definitely the best grooming they have ever received. She was very quick and also gave me a discount. I will definitely call her again! read more

Pam has done a fine job washing our small dog for several years. She communicates well using text messages, let's us know if she is running fast or slow, and best of all the experience takes under an hour which seems much easier on this "sensitive" mutt than leaving her at a groomer for several hours. read more

bad ...real bad. It seems she must be helpful when the owner is loosing there pet ...final stages of cancer but otherwise you can see clearly. Just NO and much more stressful for my animals than going all the way in to the Groomer and staying several hours in a decent environment. WAY OVER CHARGES and takes the least time I have ever seen doing a subpar fast job as fast as she can....never seen a groomer act like that ...telling you all the while she is giving you a special deal just for this time....whatever. I recommend places in Mill Valley or Shampooch over this....I will try a different mobile vet groomer maybe but not for a while after this experience. read more

I have used Pam several times to groom both my dogs and I couldn't be happier with her work. My long-haired Doxie gets his usual puppy cut and my 14 year old Aussi cattle mix gets pampered and loved during his de-shedding. Pam is loving, compassionate and BUSY. But she always texts me to confirm the appointment or if there is ever a conflict and. Yes, it is more expensive than PetCo but, she comes to my house so they don't have to go somewhere and sit in a kennel and knows how to groom senior dogs and as such, mine is comfortable and not stressed. She even texted me back to check up on how my senior pooch was doing after a particular scary medical incident. Truly, a lovely, and caring woman who I would highly recommend. read more

Pamela has a nice van and she seems to know grooming pretty well, but her business acumen is sorely lacking. She offered us an appt via text, which we accepted, then on the morning of our appt she NO-SHOWED. When we called her to see where she was she casually said, "Oh I must have forgotten to write your name in my book for today." Are you kidding? We are busy folks with our own full schedules. That was one big wasted 90 minutes. We now will drive our dog to a groomer and PASS on Pamela. There's no "Joyful" in her business model. read more

I am thrilled at how Pamela handled and took care of my rescue poodle. She had had a very rough time before I found her and it was very important to me that she have a good experience as she was terrified of brushes and shy in general of hands on her. I'm simply over joyed to have had such a positive experience and can't wait to have Pamela groom her again. I can't recommend her highly enough. Bless you Pamela for making my dog soft clean and happy! read more

Called at the last minute and she came by the next day! My biggest pet peeve (pun intended) with groomers is it's an all day affair. I have to drop my dog off and wait 9 hours to pick him up. Pamela was amazing with our 4-year old Springer Spaniel mix, who had no prior professional grooming experience and is very nervous around strangers. Pamela was very patient, in coaxing and relaxing our dog in the van. She allowed me to assist her briefly until he was comfortable. We moved here from VA and had a really hard time locating a mobile groomer in the East Bay. I found Pamela/The Joyful Hound online and decided to give her a try after a traumatic experience with Petco where they totally shaved my dog. Pamela was great! On time, reasonable rates, and obviously LOVES DOGS. My baby was not nervous at all, and was beautifully groomed and very relaxed when she was done. The mobile grooming van was pretty cool- even has its own hot water. I was super happy with the service and will definitely use again. read more

I have used this service twice now and it has been amazing. The problem_ 1 1/2 year-old Ragdoll cat, proliferating mats on her underside, lethal claws, sharp teeth, intolerance of grooming. (Learned from personal attempts at grooming her.) The solution _ Pamela and The Joyfulhound Mobile Dog Grooming!! Pamela and Mel, of Mel's In Home Pet Grooming, gave me a next-day appointment and in an hour or less transformed my poor matted and uncomfortable kitty back into the fluffy love-bug she had been originally. Apparently they work as a team on cats so that there are enough hands to manage the process. This is top quality pet grooming with the least amount of stress on your pet. They came in theJoyful Hound van equipped with the full array of grooming necessities _ very very clean and organized work space, on-board electrical generator, interior lighting and ventilation, on-board water tanks and stainless steel wash basin, adjustable grooming table. Literally a pet spa on wheels. Fully professional set-up and groomers. And Poppi was as docile as a lamb when they brought her back into the house in her carrier. I expected her to catapult out of the carrier screeching but she did not even move when Mel opened it. Calmly stroking and soothing Poppi, she showed me the tummy trimming they had done, the ear-cleaning on one ear, and the bathing-drying-combing that restored Poppi to the downy soft and untangled kitty she wanted to be. It was easy to tell Poppi had been in caring hands with Pamela and Mel. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I am very grateful to have their expert and professional services in my area (southern Marin). Poppi plans to call on them again for regular grooming care. This is sooo much better than having my kitty spending most of a day in a carrier or cage at a grooming center. read more

Pamela is very dedicated to being sure the dogs not only look great but have a nice grooming experience. Five stars.

The Joyful Hound certainly lives up to it's name! We look forward to our regular appts for our Havanese puppy, Annie and we have been absolutely saved from a skunk incident with our pit-mix, Blue. Pamela's service is impeccable, her expertise is evident and her kindness pervades everything she does- whether with the dogs or their humans. We all feel great and well cared for when The Joyful Hound is around. We are lucky to have crossed paths with such a wonderful soul and we look forward to many years of regular grooming appts for our sweet rescue dogs. I guess we are all really 'rescuing' each other- we have sure felt that kind of care and compassion from The Joyful Hound and that is a beautiful thing. read more

My wife and I decided to try the "Mobile Grooming Studio" service for having our dog Cosmo groomed at home by owner/operator Pamela McHale. This service is performed in her specialized dog grooming van. We needed to wait three weeks just for an appointment, which was made by my wife for 12:30PM, earlier this week. For whatever the reason, Ms. McHale tried phoning me earlier that morning but I was out running errands, so missed her call. (She had not previously requested my cell phone number). I returned home about 11:30 and was downstairs working in my office when she arrived around 11:45--which was 45 minutes early for the scheduled 12:30 appointment?!? She apparently knocked on our front door several times which I generally can't hear when I'm in my lower floor office, but for some reason, she never bothered to ring the door bell. However, after a minute or two, Cosmo's barking alerted me that someone may be at the front door, which I then ran upstairs to answer. I greeted Ms. McHale, and immediately noted that she noticeably upset/annoyed--apparently, by first not getting an answer to her unscheduled phone call, and then by having to wait for someone for a minute or two to come to the door. After offering an explanation for her apparent frustration, she abruptly and dismissively exclaimed, "THIS JUST ISN'T GOING TO BE A GOOD FIT," and turned around and LEFT without further explanation or ado! At first, when she turned and walked away, I thought she must be kidding, but soon realized that this total lack of manners and professionalism was for real! I attempted to call her back, but to no avail. After having waited three weeks just to get on her schedule, and then THIS, I was totally shocked by her outlandish behavior. Needless to say, I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND MS. McHALE and her Mobile Grooming service TO ANYONE, following her unsavory rudeness and unprofessionalism!! Gary F. read more

She seems very unorganized. There doesnt seem to be any system in place. I waited 2 weeks to have her groom my dog, then when the day finally came. I txt her in the morning asking if she was going to come at the time we set, she said she would be here an hour later. Meanwhile I am waiting for her to show up the whole time. Then finally when the time came that she was supposed to be here, I get a call from her where I expected it to be her saying she was here but then she called to say she had a problem with her generator which obviously can't be helped but she didn't even know who she was calling! She had no clue who's dog she was supposed to be grooming. She started out saying she was going to have to push me out since the generator issues then once she finally figured out who me and my dog were and which place we were at she told me she could do it at all. I even asked her if she could come later that day after she got the generator fixed only to be told that she would have to reschedule. Geez, I have been waiting for this for how long not to mention waiting around all day for you to show up, and then that just it. From the start I had a feeling that this wasnt going to happen because the whole thing didn't seem very professional. There was no real confirmation, just the whole thing seemed very confusing. Very disappointed, my dog really needed this. read more

Well she showed up, that's about all I can say. My standard poodle has never in her 16 years looked so horrible, in addition to the 200+ and up standard poodle rate she has. I wouldn't recommend this service to anyone with a dog that actually needs a haircut. She also charged me even more because of my location, ridiculous and very unprofessional. read more

I had a very positive experience with Pamela, the owner of this business. My dog had very long hair and is elderly and very nervous. She showed up on time, told me up front what the cost would be and returned to me a dog that had been cut exactly how I requested. He seemed barely traumatized at all. I can not say that about most groomers he has gone to in his 14 years. I will be using Joyful Hound again for sure! read more
