Sifu "Master Ahmed" creates a customized learning experience at Tai Chi Power Studio that energizes you physically, mentally, and emotionally. I look most forward to the Standing Qi Gong which has helped me to improve my meditations. Master Ahmed brings a rare combination of deep knowledge, structured teaching, and sincere commitment to the growth of his students. There is real depth to what is being taught, yet it is delivered in a way that feels efficient and accessible. Every class builds with purpose, and you can feel the progression over time. Since starting, my body feels stronger, healthier, and more connected. I've noticed improvements in balance, mobility, posture, and overall well-being. If you are looking for authentic instruction from someone who truly cares about student success, Tai Chi Power Studio is exceptional. This is going to be a little long, hopefully you'll find the background relevant…read more I've been disabled for 20 years. Severe chronic back pain from a car crash. I've gone through the pain management program at MarionJoy three times to no avail. Some of their docs really tried to help, others not so much. I've been to most if not all of the major pain specialists in the Chicago area, as well as several out of state, including Mayo Clinic. Tried every non-invasive procedure I could find (I wasn't a candidate for most surgical options): acupuncture, acupressure, chiropractic, various shots, etc. On a good day (once every month or two) I could go grocery shopping, but would be exhausted afterwards. Needed a cane for the past decade if I was going to walk more than 15-30 minutes. Walked like an 80-year-old most of the time. Everything took effort. Then I started at UMA for Qigong with Grand Master McGee. I've still got a ways to go, but have made vast improvements. I can go shopping most any time now, errands aren't usually a big deal, and I can usually cook once a day. Able to be more social, can sit and talk with company without too much discomfort, where it used to be completely exhausting. Haven't used the cane since. In short, I'm feeling human again. Grand Master McGee as well as the other students are a big part of that. Self-defence hasn't been a priority for me, but I'm learning quite a bit in addition to getting me healthy. I'm able to do most of what the rest of the class does, which I honestly didn't think I'd ever be capable of. Grand Master McGee really knows his craft.

Jim of Valley Acupuncture is a miracle worker!…read more Since the fall of 2013 I had been dealing with right shoulder and arm pain. The ortho doctor I saw several times for this problem first injected cortisone into the shoulder which, when I awoke the next day, caused the worst pain I had experienced since the onset of my problem. Subsequent visits with the ortho guy and a MRI outlined my only option to be surgery even though the ortho guy was uncertain exactly what would be found during surgery. Being that I had arthroscopic surgery on the left should several years ago with this ortho doctor and have never felt 100% healed, I opted to try an alternative method of treatment. Jim and Valley Acupuncture came recommended to me by my masseuse so I thought...why not? I saw Jim each week for several weeks and then bi-weekly for another few weeks from March to May of 2014. I am happy to say that while I am not completely and totally pain free, I am as close to it as I believe will be possible given my activities and my age (late 50's). Prior to seeing Jim, I woke many times during the night with tingling and a heaviness that caused severe pain in my right arm. Since being treated by Jim, my nights are free of pain and free of the heavy feeling that I experienced prior to my visit to Valley Acupuncture. Jim is professional and personable and truly cares about his patients and their well being. Valley Acupuncture will be my first stop when I need to see a health care professional for any and all arm, shoulder and back issues. I expect Jim is equally qualified to treat other maladies and will use him in the future as the valuable resource that he is.

If you're looking for something to completely change how you view fitness and your health, this is…read morethe place to go. My wife and I have been attending for about a year now. While neither of us is what you would call an athlete, we both have noted significant changes in our day to day quality of life as a direct result of being regularly attending members. When I first set out to try CrossFit, I tried a couple different gyms in the area. The sample classes seemed intent on pushing me as hard as I could go without much regard for my current status of health. Easily the most important part of Leverage for me, has been the quality of coaching. Dave and Sarah run a tight ship. They're not looking to break you. If you're having trouble with a movement, they're going to positively encourage you to work within your ability level so that you can make improvements without breaking you. The community Dave and Sarah started is great, too. The people at the gym are always friendly, welcoming, and encouraging. Most people know your name if you've been more that once. There are a variety of class times that should easily fit the needs of most people's schedules. The rates are competitive. Leverage offers discounts for veterans, first responders, teachers, and students. The facilities are always clean and well put together. The bathrooms are always clean (supposedly that's a thing? I never realized...). There's a nice kids area that a lot of the members take advantage of. I will too, once my kids get a little older and more independent. I've been a runner, I've tried spin classes, martial arts, and plain old working out at globo-gyms. While I'm not the greatest athlete, this is something that has worked for me. I can't imagine working out any other way. The constant change of pace, the variety of movements, the tempo of the classes, Dave and Sarah do a great job motivating you to be better, without crushing you. Check it out. You won't regret it.
