I had started this review almost a year ago and I had rated 4 stars. I think because I came from a very different chiropractic experience prior and felt that the Joint was little too rough and quick to really understand my concerns. But you really need to give it a time, several visits, to feel the benefits of it. I do love their concept of walk-in only. It's perfect for me. I have struggled with headaches and my arms going to sleep when I sleep. After several visits I have felt the improvements. I have to admit I would love the location to be closer to me and due that I do skip quite a bit of visits specially when I feel better but the idea of chiropractic services is also that you need so called maintenance or the complaints will come back. But otherwise I'm pretty happy with their service. Just know that their lunch brake is from 2-3 p.m. but if they already have plenty of people queued up they have closed 1:30 p.m., I have learned it the hard way, got left behind the door twice. So I now know to rather avoid going right before the lunch brake. read more

Laurent and Matt at The Joint Chiropractic on Telegraph Ave in Berkeley have been skilled in treatment of my chronic back pain for years. They take the time to really listen to my symptoms and react by adjusting treatment. The best chiro place on earth. Affordable and professional. Lemme share the most magical thing ever: I had dizziness for 2 weeks straight, and almost fell many times when I was walking. I couldn't hold up my head. Dr. Colvin identified the specific place on my neck that caused my head problem. He did something very different that I had never had in my chiro experience. It was intense. But on the following days, my dizziness started to die down. I'm so thankful that I can finally work again instead of being on my bed all the time. This place is just amazing. I am writing this review for the joint chiropractic clinic in Berkeley California. I was seen by Dr. Laurent Colvin. He did a thorough examination very efficiently and effectively didn't take that much time. He spoke to me, listened to me to me, isolated my pain and my problem areas, showed me exactly where my areas of problem were and where he was going to adjust my spine. I have chronic problems in my mid-back and neck and have seen many chiropractors over the years. This was probably the best adjustment I have ever experienced. They also have a really good monthly payment plan so you can come up to four times a month very inexpensive no messing with insurance (no this is not a paid advertisement I'm a real person:). I walked right in was greeted by a lovely patient wellness associate named Marie. I was seen within 10 minutes and within a half an hour I left and was able to turn and move my neck and head around freely. I have not been able to do this for 2 and 1/2 weeks I have been in severe and constant pain. So if you want to be treated right, treated fairly and seen immediately, this is the place for you!! I'm going to be coming back a few times weeks for the next couple weeks and then I'll come in less, but I think it's very important to not walk around and be in such pain your spine leads to everything else in your body. read more

I've been going here for years. Dr. Laurent Colvin has gained my trust over time. Out of necessity, a few times I went to other 'Joints'. Last week one chiropractor twisted my neck, as usual. A few hours later the whole left side of my neck and skull inflamed. Overnight it all the way to my legs, causing what felt like micro strokes below my heart from muscle spasms. By morning both sides of my head were flaming and swollen, eventually traveling to my face and eyes. About five days after the twist, I went back to Dr. Colvin. He asked many questions, wanting to know the effects of this upon other parts of my body. He then asked to hold his finger at one point on my neck with a very slight twist, very concerned about being gentle. And with the slightest twist, there was instant relief. I felt like all my nerves were suddenly resting in a rainforest before I made it back to my car. Problem solved. Doctor Laurent Colvin is more than a chiropractor. It's almost magical. Took partner who was in obvious pain in to be have treatment after sleeping on his neck wrong. Waited about ten minutes for the chiropractor to put a blood pressure monitor on his wrist, and state blood pressure too high for adjustment. So patient in pain needing treatment turned away, elevated blood pressure common from pain, chiropractic adjustments known to lower blood pressure, increase circulation, etc. No other evaluation done. Wish I could recommend, but seems like there's an issue with wanting to work on bigger people. Also the game that was on seemed more important. Very disappointing. Update: went to another chiropractor no issue, no problems, and adjustment done. Amazing how many points my partners blood pressure went down after adjustment. Obviously he couldn't be treated at The Joint because they didn't want the liability, and state outside scope. What a joke. lol Happy I didn't stay for treatment as I would have most likely been denied as well for previous injuries. If you need a place that only works on people without problems, this is your place. If you need a real chiropractic adjustment where you can actually improve your condition, don't come here. I didn't even receive treatment, but already was put on the email blast for the place. I unsubscribed since this isn't a business I wish to patronize in the future. read more

I saw a chiropractor here once, he denied that I have scoliosis, which has been obvious to other chiropractors who have seen me and I told him has been shown on x-rays and an MRI. His "treatment" took no more than 2 minutes and left me in worse shape than I came in. Stay away from this place. read more

Dr Colvin is awesome! In and out without any fuss. He's very knowledgeable and experienced so you're in good hands. I don't live here so it's nice knowing I can swing by and have my back taken care of in a flash. In case you're wondering, I've been to over a dozen chiropractors in this lifetime and this guy is truly outstanding in his field. If you look at my reviews, I call it how it is and I wouldn't steer you wrong. Dr Colvin is only in during the week, M-F, 10am to 2pm, then after lunch 3pm to 7pm. This place is a complete waste of time. I just walked in at 6:05 pm and the website states that they close at 7 pm on Sundays. No one was waiting to be seen. The front desk guy said they only see new patients between 1-6 pm, and if I would be happy to fill out the forms, they can call me to set up an appointment. When I told him that the cutoff time is not stated on the website and I walked in 5 minutes after this arbitrary cutoff time, he said "the boss is pretty strict," and they have been trying to get "corporate" to change the info on the website for the Berkeley location. Again. The lobby was completely empty and no one was waiting to be seen. I knew I should have taken the negative Yelp reviews seriously concerning the operations at this location. I drove all the way here for no reason because this location can't get it together and provide clear information on a website. It also doesn't help that they essentially shut down their operations 55 minutes before closing time even when no one was waiting for service. read more

The adjustments here are tailored to how you're feeling / what is needed, which is great, especially when most chiros just do cookie cutter stuff. Not as good as other locations. I recognize The Joint is aiming to offer affordable chiropractic work and it's a perfect model for those who need a basic adjustment on the regular. However, this location felt dark, dingy, and overall not as clean. In regards to the actual practice, I like a clear adjustment (even a crack at times), but I felt like the chiropractor a this location was not attempting to tune into my needs - he just pushed me hard into the wall while standing up and sent me off. I like the accessibility of the Joint and have been to at least a dozen locations, but I hesitate to return to this location. read more

Eh.... The chiropractor on duty changes so the quality and attentiveness changes. But it's $45. You can't beat it. I slept wrong and wrecked my back in some linda way and then had to do a berkeley to sf commute and then a 12 hour corporate av gig and then commute back. I saw these guys two days after that story took place. I was adjusted. On my walk back to my place, after the adjustment, my back completely went out on me and I had to grab a nearby wall until I could get my strength and stability back. I was really pissed off that I experienced that. But it lasted a short amount of time and the next day I was fine. So... maybe it was a side effect of effective treatment. I definitely didn't feel repaired when I left the place, but, the next day I felt fine. read more

The Joint has been a lifesaver! They have easy, affordable plans and I have never had to wait more than MAYBE 10 minutes before when I stop in. I got into a car accident on Sunday and decided to come to the Joint because it was the closest chiropractor that I could walk to. I walked in, and told the front desk that I had gotten into an accident and needed care. She handed me paperwork, and I spent about 20 minutes filling out paperwork and waiting to speak to the doctor. By the time I was able to speak to him, he tells me that the Joint is actually a 'wellness' center and will not treat me if I got into a car accident. What? I wasted time here when that girl could have just told me that I shouldn't be there. I had to find another one a few blocks away, who was appalled to hear that I was turned away when I needed care. Maybe you guys should advertise that so people don't show up if they're in actual pain. read more

After reading many positive reviews, I decided to try this chiropractor out. I came into The Joint with a dull pain in my back rib cage on my left side. One of the chiropractors did a quick readjustment (cracked my back and my neck a few times) and told me that it might be worth it to come back in later that day to get it readjusted if it still feels uncomfortable. Since it is free of charge to come back on the same day, and because the pain came back a few hours later, I decided to come back in the afrernoon. I went through the same routine as that morning, and again, much to my satisfaction, my back felt very little pain immediately following the procedure. Fast forward to the next morning. I woke up with the worst pain I have ever had in my back. I could hardly get out of bed, and the pain turned into a sharp stinging sensation. Also, the front lower part of my ribcage now has a tingling sensation, which feels like my body's way of telling me that my bones are all out of wack. This has never happened before. Fast foward a few days later and my back has calmed down since that morning, but still has more pain than before I went to the chiropractor. The tingling has not subsided. As much as I want to give The Joint the benefit of the doubt with a two-star review due to their reasonable price and friendly staff, I came to the chiropractor to get positive results, and what I got was more pain than ever. I guess I've learned my lesson to always go to a real doctor before trying out a chiropractor with no known reputation except for some half decent onine reviews. read more

Walked in here as a last resort to just absurd pain and stiffness my upper back after a drive to LA. I slept on a friends tiny couch for two nights while there then drove back. My back was jacked!! I tried massage and still felt awful. I'd never been to a chiropractor but found myself almost fantasizing about it. Holy hell was my back happy I went. Dr crack bone cracked the shit out of me. And all day I felt light as a feather. No stiffness, no aching in my bones. As if I'd gotten the greatest massage ever. No muscle pain even. I'm sold on chiropractors now. read more

I agree with other reviews about Laurent being a far superior chiropractor to Matt. It's unfortunate but true, thus making for an awkward social interaction. Also, I don't like the fact that the tables are not wiped down in between patients and they don't wash their hands (at least Matt doesn't). I saw a woman with really dirty bare feet on the table right before me, and I could see an oily sheen from body gunk (hair gel, feet goo, who knows?) on the table where several bodies had left their mark (if you've been to a gym, you know what I mean). Yes, I'm a germaphobe, but honestly, with flesh-eating bacteria and all the other creeping crud going around, I'm not taking a chance. Besides, I don't want to get good chiro only half the time and I don't want to have to confront Matt about his skills (or lack thereof). Plus, he always makes a joke about whether or not he did anything to help. I don't think it's funny. I actually take my health seriously. Cancelling my membership. UPDATE: So this is the comment I got back (actual quote) from Laurent regarding wiping down the tables: "Your comment about the tables not being wiped down between patients has been noted. It is not customary in chiropractic practices to do so. I will have you know that everytime an obviously sweaty patient gets off my table I do wipe the table down with an antibacterial alcohol cleaner, but they do not represent a significant percentage of the patient population. We clean the tables regardless at least once a week." Ewwww, ew, and more ew. Once a week, eh? As a medical professional, I'm very surprised, to say the least. ...gross with a bit of attitude to go with it. Guess he's not one bit worried about their business. Yeah, we didn't used to have to wear condoms either, Laurent, but things have changed. I would say boning up on HPV and staph is in order, for the health of your patients. ALCOHOL DOES NOT KILL HPV, NOR HIV, NOR STAPH, NOR HEP C.. Just use a solution of 10% bleach/water. Keep it simple. sheesh read more

A total ripoff. Went for a one time appointment. Got convinced that the best deal was to pay $57 two months in a row for 8 sessions. The trick is that they don't tell you that the sessions expire (you are supposed to go 4 times per month) And that they are really not closed until 7pm. I went 3 times at 6pm and the door was already locked and they wouldn't let me in with the excuse that they already were "full". When I explained this to Doc. Laurent he was very rude, disrespectful and said that if I don't use my sessions I lost them, there are no refunds and basically its not his problem if I can't be there earlier. Then as if nothing had happened went very sarcastically and asked do you feel any pain, does anything hurt ?and he did his adjustment on me. It was so uncomfortable to let him do an adjustment on me after his rudeness, but all I could think of was "I already gave my money to this lier, so I better get something out of this" Doc. Laurent's work is fast and OK. But his manners, care for patients and costumer service is horrible. He just cares about getting people's money. While I waited to speak to him about my situation I heard how the receptionist was convincing another client to get the same package I had without telling the truth. I will never recommend this place to anyone. It may looks cheap and a good deal but its just a facade of a ripoff. read more

I would recommend this business to both friends and family. There are no appointments, their bedside manner is elite, and the cost is a great value at a reasonable price: 20 bucks trial, 49 bucks a month for four visits. I had never been to a chiropractor before, but my back was so tight/stiff I figured it was either this or a doctor's office (at a hospital). My visit took ten minutes and I felt like a million bucks after. I felt loose and exhaled with relief :D. You will leave with a kool-aid ear to ear smile. Wonderful value! read more

I had the sad misfortune to get rear-ended recently. I have always had neck and back problems but the whiplash really tipped the scale. Being a dirt 'po grad student I hastily went to The Joint to get things straightened out. Matt was fabulous! Totally professional, highly entertaining, and brought my neck back to life. The sign-up process was super easy, prices are just right, and the office is lovely. Be advised that you are on display throughout your adjustment (i.e. there are no partitions). So long story short, the bf sprained his shoulder the other day & as the best gf on the face of this planet ;) , I woke up early, did a little magic on Google, found this Place on 'Chiropractor in the Bay', and Yelp it (of course) to see how well the service is compared to the price. HEY 4 stars for $19 as a first timer? & $24 for regular visits? I'm sold! So I made a call & spoke directly with Dr. Colvin. Dr. Colvin was very patience & helpful in answering all of my questions in regards to the pricing. Please excuse me, but we're both unemployed college students so $$ is definitely a big issue when it comes to seeing doctors. Don't want to get smack with a $200 bill after-wards haha Even though Dr. Colvin informed me that this was a Walk-In Joint & he doesn't take appointments, He allowed me to give me an estimate for your arrival so he can perhaps schedule us in as accordingly to our needs. We arrived there around 11am and lucky us, found parkings right in front of The Joint. My bf was the last client Dr. Colvin saw before his lunch break & he exam him from joint to joint. He even called me over to show me a bone problem that my bf was having in his shoulders, too. Aside from fixing his shoulder, Dr. Colvin found a problem with my bf's bone structure that can effect his back bone in the long run & immediately directed him to go get an x-ray so the problem can be fixed before it is too late. I have never been to a Chiropractor before & wasn't even planning on seeing one, but after the helpful experience that the bf had, I wouldn't mind getting an exam myself when my bf comes back for his follow up. One downside is that all the exams are flat out in the open of the office, no closed door exams, so I can understand why people tends to get a bit hesitant based on being in front of everyone. But this is Berkeley, so I think it sends out more of a community atmosphere and fits right into the Berkeley culture. read more
