Stopped by for a somewhat dark, average noised speakeasy vibe after a not-so-great evening at another restaurant the night before. The staff was very friendly and attentive even though the place was oddly very packed. I came right in time for their Happy Hour and boy was I in for a treat! I ordered the steak tartare, shrimp cocktail, and a Mint Julep. The Mint Julep was good but too strong for my liking. I ordered a Daiquiri instead & it was strong but tasty. The steak tartare was the true star of the show. While I genuinely enjoyed the shrimp cocktail & the house cocktail sauce was incredible, the steak tartare stole my heart. It was served with baguette bread & house mustard. The tartare was very flavorful and bold. It was so plentiful & good, I ordered another round of it. Even the bill was very reasonable (under $40). How often do you find steak tartare not only on a Happy Hour menu, but it's $9 on the HH menu? If/ when I am in Richmond, I would definitely come back to visit. I highly recommend. I will say parking may be difficult but it is manageable.
Sorry, what? How have I failed to review The Jasper up until now? That's wild to me, as it's one of my favorite craft cocktail spots in Richmond. I especially love their pop-ups for the holidays. I visited their Dia de los Muertos pop-up this past year immediately following a week in Oaxaca, so it felt very familiar. I've also been to Miracle for Christmas a few times over the years despite how hard it is to get into. I met my now-boyfriend for our first date here, so it'll hold an extra special spot in my heart now. Their drinks are consistently great and strong, and their food selection is pretty good too. Situated in the heart of Carytown, it's an easy pick for a fun night out.

I was here Wednesday after work to celebrate my birthday with two of my friends. I love this place and didn't realize that this was where I'd been at Christmas. I like how they turn this location into various special themes. This time it was just the regular decor and I really liked it. I am kind of a mixologist at home and really appreciate places that have a good bar selection of mixed drinks/cocktails. I had a Daiquiri and then a Manhattan and both were very tasty and of the size one would expect. One of my friend's drink though was very small and really shouldn't be. It was in a glass that was only just a tad bigger than a shot glass. Otherwise a good experience and parking is street parking so that can be a challenge. What I also love is that the seating is made to provide areas where you can sit more in privacy if you want to.
Been here several times. Highly recommend their happy hour specials! A very cute place to bring anyone to for a nice Richmond cocktail. I've come with with my besties and date night with the hubby. Love love love! Parking in carytown is the worst. I typically park in the next neighborhood over because it's just more parking and less people to pay attention to haha. It's very cute and there are def some intimate lighting to set the mood. Staff are friendly and the drinks are tasty (and can def be strong haha). I always have to cap myself at 2 drinks so I can drive back home. The last time I went, I am super impressed with their HH options. My friend and I were craving beef tartare and this was the first place that popped in my head. We tried their shrimp cocktail...omg they were gigantic and so good. We ended up ordering another dish of beef tartare...each. Lolol even if you decide not to eat here, you just gotta try their cocktails. Enjoy!
Solid Happy Hour with plenty of options - what more can you ask for? Maybe just less ice in the Mint Julep - besides that,. we enjoyed it here! Cool modern-bar vibe with colorful wallpaper and a fairly warm/welcoming environment. Luckily wasn't terribly busy when we went, but I know it can certainly get that way. Our server was super attentive as well. I really appreciate how creative they get here in the wintertime with their Christmas themed stuff, but also gets way too hard to get a table during that time of year.
What a neat little place! Hard to get a seat because it's small and super popular, but wonderful for pre- or post-dinner drinks!
I'm not a cocktail person, or high brow in any capacity but the music and vibes are always fun. Prefer the seasonal decor and drinks but it's nice to do with a group of friends or for a more lowkey time with a date.
If you're looking for a fun, festive spot this holiday season, Miracle on Cary is a must-visit! It's the Jaspers Christmas bar pop-up that we found out about on social media, and can I say the reviews of it did not exaggerate! The place is completely decked out with Christmas décor, Santa hats on the fans, twinkling lights everywhere, and even the bathroom is decked out in holiday wrapping paper. The ambiance was super cozy and lively, and the service was top-notch. We sat at the bar, which had surprisingly comfy seats (a big plus, as I usually hate bar seating, especially if I plan to spend a while there). We tried the Christmasaurus and the Yippee Ki Yay-MF drinks, which came in the cutest festive cups. The Thanksgiving Leftovers Sub was definitely the highlight for food. It was so tasty and surprisingly filling for a bar snack. The fingerling potatoes with smoked salmon were also yummy and came with a shot of Aquavit which was a fun touch. The only downside? It's busy! We waited 35 minutes on a Tuesday night, so I can't imagine the weekend crowds. But it's totally worth it. All tabs include a 20% gratuity, which makes tipping easy. There's plenty of parking nearby, too. Highly recommend for a fun Christmas experience, I am also excited to check it out in the non-christmas season as well!
I just love the Jasper! It's a great spot to go for drinks with friends or for a cute date night! The staff is lovely and the bar is one of the best designed in the city! It's a moody but fun and sophisticated atmosphere! I went for happy hour this past week and the prices can't be beat! They had a list of seven dollar cocktails and apps! I had an aperol spritz and it was so good and summery!

Got here at 4 pm and stood in line outside- so worth the wait. Great drinks, atmosphere - our bartender Eden was friendly and made great drinks- and cool Christmas decor. Perfect night out. read more
Super cool cocktail bar with a speakeasy vibe that will take you back in time. This place is packed with small seating also, even though they do have tapas and snacks if definitely just recommend coming here for their spin on the classic old fashioned, or one of their generously poured creative creations. read more

I'll start with the positives about my experience. The atmosphere was beautiful. A beautiful dark wood feel with real lit candles setting the mood. The staff was friendly and attentive; I was served as quickly as I walked in. But, I was outrageously overcharged for double of scotch neat. The drink had been poured and thoroughly enjoyed before being hit with $55 pours for a $164 bottle. Unfortunately there was nothing I could do but eat it. Maybe for a 25 year, maybe for a 30 year, but for a 21 year bottle of Balvenie Portwood. $20-$25 pours would have been appropriate. I just don't understand industry markup very well and am more than likely just some ignorant bastard. If you're looking to grab a drink here be wise and Inquire about the drink before it's poured, or you may end up complaining about something totally reasonable. Also, My party stated the bathrooms "?had no chill?" and the music had to be screamed over. I wouldn't read into that too much. read more

Best cocktails in RVA. Not up for debate. Every person that works here knows their sh!t and will deliver 100% quality every single time. The service, knowledge and overall vibe is consistently amazing. Don't get frustrated if they're crowded, take it as a great sign that you're in the right place for a legit, QUALITY cocktail. Prices truly are fair and pours aren't wimpy. They're doing some innovative and unique things over here, don't sleep on it. If you prefer the classics, they can do that too. Going to the bathroom has never been so fun. You'll find stand-up comedy playing in both (gender neutral) restrooms. Pro tip: there's a wine-by-the-bottle list. You'll find some great gems at fantastic prices. Don't be afraid to ask for the wine list just because everyone else is having a cocktail ;) read more
I love this bar. There is no sign outside, just a little sign that says "bar". It hides on Cary Street but it's the best place. They serve delicious light fair but on Sunday nights they do pop ups and serve amazing food! What can I say but praise for their cocktails? Well thought out, delicious, and unique is just some of what they are. Their seating is limited so get there early. I wish they had a hostess again, at least on Sunday, as seating is a bit hard. But I keep coming back and loving it. read more

It's 40 degrees and I am standing in 40 degree weather in line next a cigarette disposal can waiting to get inside a Christmas themed cocktail bar. Years ago I made a vow to myself that I would never wait to get into a place. I decided that if they did not want me in there immediately, I did not want to be in there yet here I stood, waiting to get in. After about 15 minute wait my party was taken inside and seated at a table. Walking in I was in awe of the decorations hanging on the walls, the tv showing a roaring fireplace ablaze, and the various Christmas references everywhere. I spotted a fragile leg lamp, a "Merry Christmas ya Filthy Animal" written on the wall, Bruce Willis in a vent, and many many more cool decorations. The drink menu had lots of good options but they certainly did not come cheap. When we ordered and the drinks were eventually brought out, they were good, strong but still seemed a little overpriced. Overall it was a good experience to help get me into the holiday mood but I am not sure I need to go again. Once might have been enough for me. read more

Their rotating menu is always creative and fun, their classic cocktails are done incredibly well, and I have really been enjoying their pop up menus. I am so excited that they are starting their holiday pop-up, Miracle on Cary, a bit earlier than usual. read more

Came here for some food and drinks before a concert and am so glad I did. Both the food and drinks were great. Great ambiance and great service, the bartender was super sweet. I started with their happy hour cocktails and got a margarita which was delicious. But honestly once I started moving to their more creative cocktails I was way more impressed. The pate was gooood. If I'm ever back in Richmond I'm definitely coming back here. read more

We walked past this place and I was intrigued by the sign subtly proclaiming "bar". Its exterior is very subdued and I wasn't sure if it was even open. After a little research we later discovered The Jasper's name and concept. It is as stated; great cocktails at decent prices. We had the burbon and ginger special and a Manhattan. Yum! Good selection and high end ingredients. Nice big bar in front, but it was full even on a Sunday night. The hostess pointed us to the back where they have so really cool and comfortable booths. We had a great time here. We will be back. read more

Visited during their "Miracle On Cary" pop up. Insane wait time in the cold but well worth it for the Christmas spirit and spirits ;) I do wish they used a POS system where you can check in, walk around Cary and get a text notifying you that your table is ready but I also understand the complications that would cause with people not checking their phones/creating a longer wait time! Sat at the bar and our bartender was awesome!!! Wish I could remember his name so I could give him credit (I only remember that he had just gotten Lasik surgery LOL) Will be returning!!! read more
If you want a real craft cocktail, I am talking about a REAL cocktail, then The Jasper is most definitely your place. Carytown is known for unique one of kinds stores and restaurants and The Jasper fits the Carytown mold to a tee. On the outside there is only a small sign that simply says BAR. Blink and you will miss it. The aesthetic and the cocktails will feel very speakeasy and you will think it's 1920. You will know you are not back in time because I am pretty sure during Prohibition bartenders didn't wear Hawaiian shirts and Notorious Big or WuTang Clan did not exist and neither did hip hop music, which was being played at a modest volume amongst the hipster, college crowd. I loved every minute of it. From the great music, to the old school ceiling fans. It is the perfect blend of the past and the present. The bartenders are superb and must have come from a cocktail paradise planet. Do not go here and get a beer. You must order one of the amazing signature drinks that these craftsmen created. They are absolutely amazing. Not only are they appealing to eye but the taste is just as exquisite! They drinks range from $10-$15 but they are strong and quite large. I had the Caribbean Kween and 2 of the Mexican Firing Squads. Both filled my fancy and the drinks were mixed perfectly. If you enjoy fine cocktails in a unique atmosphere you will thoroughly enjoy The Jasper. Cheers! read more

Date night in Carytown lead us to Jasper. Even though I knew to be on the lookout for a discreet "bar" sign we still almost missed it. As soon as we walked in I was in awe of how beautiful this place was. I felt like I had transported back to a 1920s Speakeasy. I was literally waiting for someone to ask me for a password before being seated. There is no password and no hostess you seat yourself. The vibe is sexy, sophisticated and intimate. The lighting is minimal. There are lit candles at every table. The tables are intimate and cozy. There were couples and groups of friends piled into little nooks throughout the bar. The cocktail menu is extraordinary. This isn't a place you come to order Tequilla sunrises this is prime time scotch and whiskey territory. The cocktails are crafted by mixologist who know their stuff. I drank something that had lavender in it and it was AMAZING!! There aren't pool tables or darts or even a dancefloor here but rather people wrapped up in conversation and the vibe of the music. I can officially say with confidence that Jasper is my new favorite bar. read more
New cocktail centric bar in Carytown. I was thinking it would be a little more upscale since they're all about creating unique cocktails but it's really just a cool hipster bar. No pretentious attitudes here! We decided to check this place out on a Friday night and it was suuuuper crowded so we did have to wait to find a seat. So keep that in mind if you visit during peak booze hours. Once we finally got a seat at the bar, the bartenders were very friendly and service was surprisingly fast considering how busy they were. We tried a couple of their house and classic cocktails, and everything was delicious. By far, my favorites were the Expat Willy and the Caribbean Kween. Be careful if you try the Hailstorm Julep, it's so strong, it'll put hair on your chest! My only complaint is that I wish they had a couple of better veg options on their food menu. read more
This place is exactly what it says, "full pours and honest prices" The exterior design of this place is easy to miss. Full black with just a small "BAR" label. When you walk in, there's so much character and your experience is immediately elevated. Dimmed lights, classic sign of a speakeasy. When you come here, you come here to have well crafted drinks, not food. So make sure you hit up dinner elsewhere before you come here. That being said, they do provide food that you can munch on, but be aware this is not going to be their forte. For crafted artisan beverages, the price is more than fair. What is normally averaged about 14-15 bucks you can get for average of 10. That is a steal! They also got certain drinks for only 8 bucks! They have housed cocktails as well as classic ones. They also have a small selection of beer and wine if that's more of your fancy. I always recommend sitting at the bar, because that's where you can see all the magic happen. It is so mesmerizing to see your (and other) drinks being crafted right in front of your eyes, and love they put in little touches, such as stamping the blocked ice of your old fashioned with a 'J.' It also seems that their drink menu does change here and there, so that's always appreciated! If you want to get something that was on a previous menu, feel free to ask the bartender! Listen, the Jasper has its ISH together right now. The pop ups are such a fun collaboration and there is always something new to try (we had pizza with unmoo vegan cheese #divine). Drink wise tho, they rotate through their cocktail menu (which is varied and complex and a bit on the strong side ). Basics available, but go for something different and let these guys craft something delish !!! Order online and pick up the giant serving for yourself. Yes! Their main focus is mixed drinks (food is merely a side order). They'll have a fully stocked bar.
