This was a great place to stay. It was clean recently renovated, comfortable & modern. The breakfast offered was made fresh in their kitchen each day and was delicious. Just 1 block to the beach. Be sure to book your reservations early! We will be back!

The James in Bradley Beach is a Fantastic Place to Stay at the Jersey Shore The newly refurbished "The James" is a lovely Bed and Breakfast, just one block from the ocean in beautiful Bradley Beach. Named for one of the town's founders, James Bradley, it began as a large Victorian mansion. Now The James is an intimate sanctuary, comprised of 17 guestrooms, suites, and a bungalow spread across three historic buildings. The rooms have fascinating designs by Sebastian Zuchowicki, one of the top American interior designers. Based in New York City, he is renowned as a "visual storyteller who transcends space through the use of fine art, objects, and timeless interiors." The James boasts unique contemporary designs with classical and coastal elements that highlight the simple beauty of the Jersey Shore. Distinctive decorative finishes by Lucas Willing Studios transform spaces into special sanctuaries. Delicious breakfasts are included in your stay, and an outstanding internet connection is available for those who must stay connected to the outside world. This area of the Jersey Shore provides mile after mile of beautiful, pristine ocean views. Consider staying at The James and enjoy a wonderful opportunity to relax and refresh. As a former NJ Assistant Commissioner of Health and former President of the NJ Public Health Association, I give The James my highest rating. The James is located at 204 3rd Avenue in Bradley Beach, NJ 07720 and the website is https://www.thejamesbradleybeach.com/

MY VEHICLE WAS VANDALIZED BY EMPLOYEE ASSOCIATES OF THE INN!…read moreWhen parking on the street in the appropriate designated parking places.I was demanded by employee associate SOLOMON NOT TO PARK ON THE STREET IN FRONT OF THE INN. As there were no other available spaces to perk , and I told him , I had no other choice but to park in one of the five spaces that he had reserved for himself. The moment I saw another spot open up , I went outside to move my vehicle and found that the tire had been slashed with a very large knife. After bringing the matter to the attention of PROPERTY MANAGER LIZ OLVERA on many occasions , I have thus far been ignored and are given the most ridiculous denials of responsibility that I have ever received in my life. Liz wants us not to believe our eyes rather what she tells us is true. Because I stayed here for that long, I was able to make a few observations, which frame my opinions. As with anything, there are both good and bad. But these are just my POV. Management: The place was basically run by two women, with one being the "chief cook and bottle washer," stepping in to do repairs and treating the guests to her amazing baked goods. The other woman served more on, in her own words, an "organizational" level, collecting the "rent" every Monday, and "keeping things in line." If you stay during the Winter season as I did, don't expect breakfast, but summer guests will have that amenity. Not to worry. There are quite a few options in town. There is a Keurig coffee machine, however, which you can help yourself to any time of the day. It's easy to use. For those of you who don't know, just put the K-cup in, making sure there is water in the side container, press the top down and push the button to the desired strength of coffee. But I digress. It's just that people kept asking me how to use it. One of the downsides at the Inn were the numerous power outages, and guests were sometimes suspected to be the culprits, even though the building is more than 100 years old and the infrastructure probably needs an upgrade. Also, at least in the winter season, you must supply your own bedding: sheets, blankets, pillow cases. And don't expect to bring Fido or Felix. Pets are not allowed, except maybe in the back cottages. All in all, enjoy the stay, don't get too inebriated (it's a dry town, and you'll have to sneak off to Bond Street Bar in the next town) because there are three floors, and you have to climb stairs. Parking is free, outside the building, but that could be problematic in the Summer. During my stay, I was sometimes playing musical cars to keep my auto on the "correct" side of the one-way Webb Avenue . Take care, and Godspeed. Hope this offered some insight into staying at the Inn @Ocean Grove.

I reached out to meet with them in March to go over some things and was bothered that we had no written agreement. My questions were answered, left thinking everything was fine. The next day I receive an email not even the decency of a phone call to inform us the wedding reception is not in line with the hotel whatever that means and they canceled the reservation for September, 5 months before the wedding. Needless to say they are very dishonest, the reason they gave doesn't hold up. We had spoken at length with the chef about meals, music, dancing area and was now told the reason was, they don't do that kind of reception! We also knew of noise restrictions for Ocean Grove and booked DJ accordingly. My personal feeling is they booked the entire hotel for 3 days including the day we reserved. We booked the entire hotel and this boils down to they got a better offer with more money for full booking. After receiving this email I went on the hotel booking site and saw all three days blocked which is not what we reserved. We had reserved the whole hotel for Saturday, When I questioned this I was told they had blocked the 3 days for us. Not true, we never asked for that. My advice, stay away or get in writing from very beginning so you can take legal recourse if this happens to you. We are left scrambling to find a venue. On a side note I went on their site this morning, that weekend is still blocked and we were already canceled so that speaks for itself! As far as we are concerned at this point, we feel this happened for a reason!

But my god, it is splinter hell. Us, along with 3 other families that we knew of, were realizing at the pool that us and our kid's feet were completely full of splinters. We spent a total of about 3 hours at the pool over 2 days and my four year old had over 50 splinters in each foot! I had about 10 and spouse a few less. My four year old will not even let me look at his foot, nevertheless remove the splinters - yeah right. I think we are going to need to get sedated. This has ruined the stay to be honest. The hotel also didn't have tweezers. At least two families complained and nothing seemed to be done about it. The deck is extremely dry. This wouldn't be a hard problem to solve. ICE. I requested ice about 20 different ways, because there is no ice machine so they say just request it: - through the app on their tablet (3x, nothing) - through calling the front desk (2x, nothing) - in person at the front desk (2x, nothing) - through text to the front desk (4x, nothing) - in person to the person that came to the room one night (2x, 1x worked!) I got ice once, woohoooooo! The tablet is a joke. I needed an extra bedsheet and requested it through the tablet and it never came. In person at the front desk it did, however. Beautiful hotel, but the splinters ruined it. You could not pay ME to stay somewhere that my autistic kid gets 100 splinters in his feet. The hotel is feeling a bit neglected in some ways. Our "terrace" had algae on the deck area, one couch cushion had a big brown spot and there was half of a DEAD BIRD on our terrace. It was there the whole time. Of course my 4 year old was enthralled.Yay.

And I'm a partier so I'm usually unbothered by a little noise. if IM complaining about noise that's a bad sign. Aside from that the rooms aren't very welcoming. The uncarpeted floors have a cold vibe and the old air conditioner from the 80s sounded like it was on its last leg. The price of the room is that of a 5 star hotel and the lobby and event spaces are amazing. But the hotel rooms themselves feel like a 2 star hotel unfortunately. Really needs an update. The bed was comfortable but the furniture, the noise, and the old AC system were surprisingly low effort. I wouldn't stay here again unless I absolutely had to due to proximity to their event space.

I'm so glad they furnished the room with a noise maker, because my goodness, the construction by the boardwalk right now is loud and the lobby is popping. The room phone does not connect with the front desk. That works through a text system. I highly prefer to just be able to call, and this felt like one of those modern updates that are actually less convenient. I ordered room service, and here is where I would give 5 out of 5 stars - the staff here was very friendly and sweet. The spinach and egg white wrap I got? Y'all, skip it! I'd even say, please take this off the menu. I couldn't eat it. The mushrooms were chewy and tough. And the combination of everything was almost muddy? I'd suggest maybe trying to dress the spinach and seasoning the eggs. The coffee was fine. I highly preferred the espresso! Not bad, but I might go elsewhere next time.

We checked in at 4:15 with Kathy and she explained the layout of the land and how everything worked. She told us breakfast was from 8-10am and asked if we needed restaurant recommendations (which was nice) but we already had reservations somewhere. We stayed in room 15, which was very cute. The decor was lovely and the bathroom was a great size (with a powerful shower!). After dinner we came back to our room to just relax and watch some TV. The bed was comfy enough, a bit hard for me, but that's just my preference as my husband slept soundly. You can hear some of the other tenants as I heard someone snoring all night long, and then a woman on the phone in the morning. The breakfast was delicious, maybe a tad limited, but a lot of it is homemade (by Kathy!) like the french toast bake and a waffle egg with everything bagel seasoning (go for that!). Overall, my husband and I had a lovely stay and would recommend the Carriage House to anyone!
