Fajitas were pretty good, but not the regular sizzling hot. Butter to add to the sizzling plate was cold, so that did not work out as typical. Chips were stale. Got a fresh basket of chips and now the stale one were mixed in with the fresh one. Queso Blanco was excellent as usual. Service was terrible, the kitchen was busy since there seemed to be a very large to go order being pulled together and being staged in the bar area. We did sit in the bar area, so maybe that has something to do with the terrible service. However, the staff working the bar area were clearly not very busy as they were mostly close together goofing off. Got the Arnold Schwarzenegger plate. Was a solid spread. Beef and cheese enchilada were very good, loved the red meat sauce over the top. Dropped by Monday evening 6/8. After prying the bar door open, went to bar area. Usual chips and sauce was asap! And the food was (as always, consistent, good quality and why we come.) But, the entire bar aspect of the restaurant was dilapidated. Was hoping to watch some of the NYC/SA basketball, Tvs so old and poor could hardly tell what was going on. Bar service was very friendly, but unsure of Her experience (had to be new and mis-assigned the bar area). We ask for napkins, she suggested we use the ones in the plastic box (usually for drinks). No plates ever arrived, even when we split a plate of taco's. Did finally get napkins and then set-ups. Just the 2 of us at the bar. By then, the entire bar top was covered in queso, chips and taco pieces. (The norm) We just left it, looked like pigs ate there. I went to the men's room. Smelled like just been cleaned! I looked down from the urinal and I was standing in .5" of cleaning fluid, the drain was clogged. I later went to the front desk and ask for tooth pics, they said management threw the box in the trash and said "we are not supporting those anymore..." It was a Monday early evening. So we sat there, ask for the check, no attempt was ever made to clear or clean the bar top. Even the old chips basket and dip container we had finished, still there along with the old queso cup. The old taco plate and again food and cut particles everywhere, we left purposely to see how far it would go (again just us 2 at the bar). Left to go out through the front door and get some ice cream (tasted like plastic?) the table holding the cones was a wreck and appeared unsanitary. The HVAC was so out of adjustment, I could hardly push the door open. (same coming in, hope you're not handicapped, BTW, they only have 2 dedicated spaces!) Been coming here for years, food is "always" the same, very good general Mexican. And the parking lot (except this monday evening evidently) is always full... ? You guys can do better! read more

First time here and man this place is soooo amazing. Drinks taste like they came from the gods, food was so tasty I had to force myself from eating and take the rest home, and service was absolutely on point. Then to top it off, you can make yourself an ice cream cone on the way out! Right up there with one of the best dining experiences I've ever had right here! read more

This place had been going down in quality since my last review. It became just a place to fill a void. Then, recently, it became very good. There must be new management. Good tacos, rice, beans, chips, and enchiladas. The salsa has a little kick to it that makes my bald spot itch. The quality certainly has gone up. I'm actually looking forward to visiting here when I come to Denison to visit family. There are so many chain restaurants that having a local place is very nice. So last night we had Dinner at the Jalapeño Tree. I had the quesadillas and Jerry had the Fajitas. And he said that the Fajitas were great. And I thought the Quesadillas were very good except that the chicken was a little overcooked in them which made it very dry and tough. Not to bad just a little thus the one star taken away. The flavor was overall very good though. The service was above and beyond. The waitress that waited on us was amazing. She check on us quite frequently even though she had quite a few patrons. Food is mildly consistent at best, service seems to be short staffed for the past several years. Place is fine for simple casual dining, especially if you aren't in a hurry. During one visit we ordered shrimp fajitas- but the moment they arrived in all of their sizzle "splendor", the smell of spoiled shrimp hit us, and those around us. We were later informed by staff that the batch of shrimp they received had been "sitting" for a while and must have gone bad. (?!) so we don't get anything with shrimp there anymore. The white queso is my go-to, thankfully that is one thing that seems to be consistent. Same with the white sauce they bring with chips- but it isn't as consistent in taste. We last went on 02/28/24 and after ordering two tall swirl margaritas like we normally do- we discovered the margarita mix has changed recently and tastes more like lemon lime Gatorade- which is off putting. So one less reason to go here for us. The straws have gone from normal sized to that of a coffee stirrer, so I've learned to bring my own straw. read more

We decided to treat my daughter and her husband to Mexican food today. We are currently moving to Denison and looking for a restaurant that serves great Mexican food. This is a very authentic restaurant with very quick service and highly friendly staff! Kareem was our waiter and we couldn't have asked for anyone better than he treated us! He was amazing at meeting all of our needs and had an awesome sense of humor. He was so fast and awesome at anticipating what would make our meal better. Even though a large group came in after we did and was so rude and demanding to him, his mood remained kind and respectful to them ... while always keeping up with his other tables offering them amazing customer service! I plan on asking for him at every one of our future visits here. The restaurant is decorated in bright colors and large graphics! The food was great and was served hot. The kitchen is very slow and staff apologize but didn't fix it. The manager walks right by Oder and doesn't pick up dirty dishes or refill drinks at any tables. When ask about why so long on food manager blames others. Food when arrived finally was sub par and not hot. Not recommended. read more

Surprised by my girlfriends grandparents with a take out order from the jalapeño tree and it was deliciously prepared and packed. The salsas had a nice texture to them, and the burrito was full of beefy and cheesy flavors. Definitely recommend this Tex-Mex restaurant! read more

We had a 3 combo which was beef taco, chicken chalupa and chicken flauta, rice, and beans. . Between my husband and I we had that, a beer and 2 glasses of wine. Food hot and well cooked. Terrible service, we went in July sat in the bar and the bartender and waitress completely ignored us. They could tell we weren't one of the regulars and had no interest and waiting on us. So we chose The Jalapeno Tree as our first out-to-eat adventure following the partial opening of Texas restaurants, and it was such a great experience!! They had someone outside to greet guests and at their station, they took our phone number then asked if we could wait in our vehicle until they called to say our table was ready. We waited about 15 minutes, then were escorted inside, just us, and seated. Every other table was blocked off so that no one would sit too close. The staff cleaned all tables and chairs, menus, etc between every seating. They provided individual salt and pepper packets so no cross contamination of any s&p shakers. They wore masks and made sure they were so careful about touching our plates and our glasses. I felt so safe and felt like they were on top of their game where safety was concerned. THANK YOU!!! With that said, the food was outstanding as usual. 2 months of no seated dining and no unlimited chips and salsa...you better believe I dove face first into our chip basket! They have super thin and crispy chips, nicely salted, and 2 choices of salsa for each diner. We had the yellow queso for appetizer and it was flavorful and yummy! My husband ordered the brisket nachos - beautiful playing and very tasty, although very spicy! I had the Combo plate (pick 3) with a cheese enchilada smothered in chili, a crispy beef taco, and the tortilla soup. Omg, the soup...quite possibly the best tortilla soup I have ever eaten!! In a Tex-Mex desert in the Sherman/Denison area, at least decent Tex-Mex, Jalapeno Tree is probably the closest to chain Tex-Mex that most Dallasites are used to. That's not saying a whole lot. While the food isn't bad, and the service is pretty good, it has some strange traits. For instance, lots of the food is named after really old celebrities, none of whom are Mexican. Most of whom wouldn't be recognized by the majority of their clientele under the age of 35. Elvis Presley, Tex Ritter, Humphrey Bogart, John Wayne. Just weird stuff. Then, on the drink menu has drinks named after members of the Rat Pack. While the food and decor fits the bill of your typical 80s Tex-Mex chain, it needs to be terribly updated. Jalapeno Tree Denison is our go-to restaurant for lunch every Saturday. We look forward to seeing our favorite servers (Jason and Tammy) and the very excellent manager Rodney. They treat us like family! My husband has the 'Carne Asado' with Charro beans, and the steak is as good or better than a steakhouse, flavorful and tender. I'm on a Keto diet and have found that I can modify the Shrimp Bowl to have 'no rice' and it works great for Keto. Perfection found in the delicious Shrimp Bowl with lots of shrimp, tomato, zucchini, mushrooms and tons of white cheese. They serve both red and green salsa with chips immediately upon seating. Love their green salsa! And the tortillas are homemade on site, fresh and the best we've had. We have never ordered traditional Tex-Mex food there, so can't speak to this. If you want something different and great tasting, try one of their many Bowls or the Carne 'Asado'. read more

I was kinda surprised to see the overall lukewarm review of this Jalapeno Tree restaurant. We ate with a party of 6 and everything, from their adherence to social distancing protocols to the food was spot on. Rather than detail everyone's experiences and entrees, I'll just say there wasn't a single complaint from anyone at the table and everyone volunteered that their food was either very good or great (mine fell into the great class). This isn't my husbands' first choice for Mexican food, but it is one of my favorite. I enjoy the fresh tortillas, chips and green dip prior to the meal and usually have enchiladas as my entree.
