Sadly, I need to update my review from the other day. The dining room was busy but by no means full when we arrived for our pre St Patrick's Day lunch. It was one waitress serving so she had her hands full. No problem, we weren't in a hurry. It was the wait between placing our order and getting our food that was concerning. The soup starter took a good 20 minutes to arrive, and it was the wrong soup. The waitress swapped them out for the correct soup, which was only tepid, but again, no complaints. Then a good half hour for the main to come and those, too, weren't hot. All in all, our lunch took almost 2 hours from the time we arrived to the time we paid the bill. Maybe having one server at an Irish pub the Friday before St Patrick's Day needs a rethink. When you drop a hundred dollars on a lunch for 2 people, you expect to get the right order, at the right temperature, in a reasonable amount of time. Hoping the next visit will be a five star experience instead of a three. read more

OMG, Big John brought his A game. The vibe is great, good Irish bar with TVs and games going everywhere. Guinness was poured perfect! Aps were off the hook, best pretzel we have ever had, must be made in house and was delicious. Fried pickles were perfect! Wings were very nice, a bit crisp and juicy, we had the Bern yer arse (hot but tasty) sauce. Mac and Cheese was good, fish and chips a bit heavy, Corn beef sliders great and Shepard pie was amazing. Nice restaurant/bar. The place is comfortable with options to either sit at a table or at the bar. There were several TVs at the bar, so there are options depending on what sports are on. The menu was pretty good with enough options to appease most. I can't say enough about the Steak Tidbits - they were excellent. I ordered them as a starter, but had I known I'd like them so much, I'd have ordered another dish of them. I also ordered the 'B.O.Y.B. (Build Your Own Burger) - which I picked a simple bacon cheeseburger in so many words. It was pretty tasty. My companion ordered a vegetable wrap, which looked quite good itself. I'm not a beer connoisseur, but there seemed to be a pretty good selection for those who do. The drinks I did order were well made. The bartenders were attentive and very friendly. This place shares the space with a few other businesses, including another bar/restaurant. If I had a complaint, it's the parking lot design - not the Irish Poet's fault at all. The lot is poorly designed and while I get what the intention was, it doesn't work. If you use the lot, exercise caution due to the lack of room and bad drivers. I believe there is municipal parking behind the buildings if the lot is full or if you don't feel like dealing with the lot at all. Overall a comfortable place with good food, a good menu, and friendly staff, Definitely a place I'd happily return to. In fact, I want to go back just for those steak tidbits alone. read more

11/20/24. Was a guest at an annual party at the Irish Poet. Everything was buffet style. Mini meatballs, chicken wings and pigs in the blanket were the apps. For mains, we had the chicken francese, penne a la vodka (more like reg sauce), salmon, sliced steak au poivre, caesar salad, roasted potatoes and mixed veggies. The food was as expected since it was such a large party. I preferred the steak, and salmon. What brought my review to 5 stars was the service. Amy and Elena were hustling, but were super friendly and beyond attentive. They took care of the food, clean up and made sure we all had a drink in our hand. The fancy Irish pub in Wantagh. It's large and quite beautiful-- that cozy pub that you don't ever want to leave. My first time here was after they opened three years ago. I appreciated that while the menu isn't especially vegan-friendly, they will made adjustments on some of the menu items. If you're drinking, they have cocktails, a modest wine menu (I stick to Prosecco) and of course a huge beer situation for the beer lovers in my family. I will always associate the Irish Poet with my mother's end of life journey around the time. We had her post funeral lunch here in their side room. Catering worked with us on the menu (including a vegan pasta) and the space was just right for what we needed. And it would be perfect for just about any occasion, my guess is up to 70ish people. It's walking distance to my parents' house and you honestly can't ask for more. The space is so pretty and the staff is so lovely. It gets super busy on weekend nights (of course) and if you're not eating, there may or may not be space for you at the bar, so be forewarned. read more

Just moved to Wantagh and looking for a place to get a good burger and a cold beer. The Irish Poet seems to fit the bill. Great service, from the doorman to the bartenders to the waitresses. Came here with some friends for a little birthday lunch and drinks. We sat at the bar which was surprisingly busy for an early Monday afternoon but the bartender Geraldine was friendly and attentive. I had a couple of Tom Collins to drink and a shot of tequila. My friends and I split the Irish potato jackets-which were like potato skins, the buffalo quesadilla-which was a special and the poutine. All of the food was very tasty and the portion sizes were pretty big. The fries were so crispy and not greasy and the potato skins were not heavy at all. It was a great time! read more

Sat down at 515pm.. Amy our server was very friendly. Appetizer & soup was very good. By 715 pm we still did not receive our meals. We were told by the manager, some guy in a suit at 630pm that they were having a large party of 30 people who were swamping the kitchen even though it was a bunch of kids eating pasta with butter. I finally made it inside The Irish Poet!! The bar is awesome, super spacious plenty of beer options as well. It's a very big location so that's great for those parties and large hang outs. Everyone is super friendly and attentive. The table check in is in the back keep that as a mental note so you're not standing in a doorway on either side of the bar lol. So any the food is superrrrrrrr good the mac and cheese with steak on top chefs kiss for sure. The fish and chips perfectly fried and crumbles with juicy goodness. My only issue is you get 3 and the goodness needs too fast. The wings are those perfect size bar wings with great flavor and even if you like them well done they're awesome. The Irish springs rolls are the perfect taste gooey Swiss cheese and juicy pastrami. Last but certainly not Shepard's Pie... the Shepard's Pie is the perfect mix of ground beef, perfect mashed potatoes, veggies and not to mention topped with cheddar cheese! I've never seen or had it like that before but that's it top tier right there. If you wanna win the Shepard's Pie game that's how you do it. You're gonna have a good time here great music, great vibes and amazing food and drinks. With a resume like that The Irish Poet is here to stay. Finally checked out The Irish Poet on Monday afternoon. There was a pretty large bar crowd for a weekday lunch! Geraldine was bartending and she was so nice and inviting. We started off with a couple of appetizers - the mac and cheese bites and the mozzarella half moons. Both were excellent! I had the Buffalo chicken sandwich with onion rings and my other two friends had the fish tacos. The Buffalo sandwich was awesome and I was able to take half home! My friends both said the fish tacos were great as well. The Irish Poet is brand new and the decor is gorgeous. Large bar area with a divider to the restaurant area, which has both high and low top seating. TV's surround the walls so you can definitely go to watch a game. Bar / Pub Pretty decent bar built on a large scale- there are a lot of seats at the Irish Poet. The large bar is manned by an appropriate amount of bartenders, so you never really wait for your libations. Plenty of tv's along the bar so you can catch your favorite games. Across from the bar is the seating side - and again, due to the length of the place, there are a lot of tables available. The only downside seemed to be the food. Large menu with a good mix of American / Irish / bar foods available but to be honest, they were just ok. Nothing to write home about and certainly not a food destination. There is also a private party room available for whatever your occasion. Decent place overall. Parking lot in front. read more

Really big sports bar and restaurant right by the train. It's Irish (duh), and was basically gut renovated from the store it was before. Pretty extensive menu with some better-than-average craft beer options. I wasn't that hungry, so of course I got the big ass burger and fries. Every add-on costs extra. I just went with bleu cheese and caramelized onions. Pretty solid burger. I will say that part of me ordering the burger was seeing a photo on Yelp that looked like nice toasted Brioche bun. Mine wasn't as photogenic. Still good though. Service was pretty good. We were in the side room (again, this place is gigantic), but there were a lot of TVs (they let us choose what we wanted to watch), and they made sure we got good service. read more

A beautiful restaurant and bar with outstanding service. We ordered something called the Irish dip which was corned beef, melted cheese and caramelized onions with a gravy dip. It was okay but I couldn't tell if in fact it was corned beef. I would have thought a restaurant that had the name Irish in it would have real cooked corn beef but this had to be, if it was corned beef and not roast beef, the stuff you would get from the grocery store deli. The portion of meat was a bit lacking so it was hard to tell what it was. So the food wasn't great but wasn't bad and I'll be back but order something that doesn't have corned beef in it. read more

I recently held a baby shower there and everything was great! I loved meeting with the manager the two times beforehand going over everything. She helped me talk things out and customize the set up for the tables and flow of the room. We were able to select a vegan option for an appetizer and main course. She even used a copy of my welcome sign to put in front of the door of the party room and I loved it. There is even a small bar in the event space so guests could open their own tabs or pay as they go since we did not do the alcohol option aside from the champagne punch bowl. The food was good too! Wantagh has more than it's fair share of Irish bars, with the Irish Poet being one of the newer additions. Much more spacious on the inside than the exterior leads on, which is a nice surprise. Long bar and ample standing space as well as a dedicated sitting area if you choose to dine gives you plenty of options. Walls are lined with TVs, it's a great place to catch any major game. Beer choice is good, nothing too out of the ordinary through if you're looking for something a little more off the beaten path. Staff were funny and friendly and I'd be glad to come back here again. Parking both in the front and back lot, so shouldn't be too much of an issue. read more

So, I recently went to the Irish Poet in Wantagh the other night mainly due to reading a bunch of good reviews... I have to say I was disappointed by it. The first problem was there was no A/C on. They had the doors open but it was humid and a bit unpleasant but we decided to stay and give it a try. We ordered drinks and my Margarita was super sweet and not good so that was another disappointment. I thought the cocktails would be good due to the menu but it tasted like it came from a mix. The appetizer we got I will say was fantastic, the Irish Spring rolls. Definitely something different and unique tasting. After that unfortunately goes downhill. My husband's burger was just average and I got the BLT sandwich and when I asked if it came with any kind of sauce she told me no, which I thought was odd, so I asked her to bring me a side of Mayo. Because who could eat something like that dry? Needless to say it was nothing special, club roll tasted like something that came from Stop & Shop, the fries are okay. Service was good and friendly. Our biggest complaint came when we got the bill. We noticed that they charged us 50 cents for the mayo. While that's clearly not a lot of money, it was the point. You're serving a sandwich that doesn't have any dressing on it and then you want to charge your customer for a tiny amount of mayonnaise on the side? I just found that's so distasteful, unnecessary and a bit insulting by the owners.
