The host was very nice and cooked for us an amazing three course breakfast each morning. It was like we had a gourmet meal unlike our usual breakfasts when we go out and certainly not like what we eat at home. We really enjoyed the other guests at breakfast and our 5:00 happy hour with a plate of cheeses and crackers with wine was wonderful. Sometimes we spent up to two hours or more just sitting around talking with them. The host even went out of her way to purchase beer for us which made it extra special touch for us. Thank you so much for making our first experience a good one. Highly recommend!

We decided to do a Bed & Breakfast instead of a hotel. We got room 5 which has a clawfoot tub in the bathroom, 2 windows (one with a view to the street, the other with a view to their landscaped area) which had a lot of space. The hosts offer a cocktail hour at 5:00 with a fresh snack and a few drink choices. Breakfast is made fresh daily and varies from day to day. The location is excellent; at the end of a quiet street yet 3 blocks from all the shops in downtown Galena. Very close to a couple tourist attractions. The hosts are very attentive and helpful and have been doing this for many years (yet are selling the place...)

The Squiers Manor is an experience. No detail left undone. The proprietors are masters in their field...from the abundance of period pieces furnishing the Manor, to the home-cooked meals, down to the complimentary toiletries; including eye makeup remover wipes. It's in the fine details like these that the love of hospitality shows. Thank you Nathan and Rud.

Recently, I needed to be in Maquoketa, Iowa, for a wedding, and I was glad to learn of the highly reviewed Squiers Manor B&B. With short notice I was able to make a reservation in the Beulah Room, named after one of the Squiers daughter's who grew up and was married in the house, whose father the house was built for. It was a lovely room with a twin bed for our 9 year old daughter, and at a most reasonable price too. The furnishings in our room and all the others we were able to see, were stunning. This may have been the finest B&B I have ever stayed in anywhere in the US and Canada. But not only was the building grand, and furnishings fantastic (Kathy and her husband are antique dealers and have searched high and low for the most amazing furnishings for their B&B), the hospitality was grand too. Kathy accommodated our need to check in a bit before standard check in between 4-8pm, and kindly greeted us and gave us a full tour of the house. If we have any disappointment at all, it was that we could not stay longer, enjoy the evening dessert or partake of the morning breakfast. We have heard it is great. We can't wait to get back to Maquoketa again and visit Squiers Manor again, and we would tell you to make a reservation here if you are passing through or staying for a few days in the area, it is a MAGNIFICENT B&B.

We loved the lush fresh flower arrangements in our room and throughout the entire inn. The common areas (breakfast area/living on main floor and the outdoor patio) are similarly beautiful, with comfortable seating and beautiful vistas. The food - from the afternoon appetizer/cheese/wine tray to the incredible breakfast - was really delicious. And I could go on. If you're at all contemplating a stay in Galena, this is the place to go! It is romantic, quiet, nurturing, luxurious.

For instance, the carpeting was what you would find in a mansion. The linens and towels were luxurious. We were provided with a bottle of wine and appetizers in the evening. There was a nice variety and a more than ample amount. Breakfast in the morning was out of this world! 3 Courses!!! Entrees were expertly prepared and delicious -- and healthy! Probably our favorite was the steel-cut oats with fruit and a banana foster sauce -- YUM! Again, these portions were very generous. Our host, Matthew, was very kind and attentive. I don't think there are enough superlatives to describe our experience!

Our cottage had a very nice porch that we spent a good portion of the weekend relaxing on. The cottage also had a nice fireplace we took advantage of. The meals in particular were a highlight and exceeded expectations. The breakfasts served in our cottage were utterly phenomenal. Every morning was a delight. Each stay, they cook one dinner for guests. That meal also stood out to us as special. It held its own against many of the fine dining restaurants in Chicago. The surprise cookies we got each afternoon were such a nice touch. They were also so very friendly and we felt so welcome there. There was a positive energy that there that was very contagious.

While the outside looks like your typical older farmhouse down a very long, winding, gravel road, the insides are gorgeous. Shockingly so. While they still keep to the country feel, they're beautiful without feeling kitschy. -You could be in a beautiful farmhouse in little Galena or feel you're in a beautiful hotel in Chicago. The food.... have mercy. It's amazing. And plentiful! I can't believe how much I feasted. There's no way you're going to find food this good at any restaurant in Galena. Don't be silly and book a hotel and make dinner reservations elsewhere. Do as I say and just stay here. I never saw humans while I was here. A text or two a day, but other than that it was solitude. Like we were the only people on the property. When we arrived, our key was in a gift bag with cookies and a flashlight. Plus a note with some instructions. Breakfast and dinner magically delivered to our door. Maybe by fairies since no one was there when I'd haul it into the room. Place your dirty dishes and tray in the same spot and they disappear again. It was amazingly refreshing to not have to deal with other humans. Magical Want a gift from the general store? Just take a pic of what you took and text it to them. They'll add it to your charge. Say what? The entire experience was charming. Visit Galena. Stay here at the Inn at Irish Hollow.
