She is very friendly, and the breakfasts she made were delicious. Miss Murphy was very accommodating about our dietary needs. The home is located in a great area, less than 5 minutes from Galena's Main Street. As with most bed and breakfasts, there is no elevator and guests need to use the stairs.

Marie had called us in the early afternoon to confirm details of our arrival, and everything was straightforward and hassle-free. Our 9:00 family-style breakfast in the morning was just wonderful! (I know I sound like I'm glowing, but it's only because we were just constantly pleased!) The fruit, French toast, and sausage were all fresh (and plentiful), and the freshly whipped cream was a happy asset for both toast and coffee. The balcony overlooks a dumpster and unsafe parking lot that you can't use! They host loud parties after coffee shop is closed and are so rude after you check in. They need upgrades and will try to keep your deposit to help pay for renovations needed.

I want to sleep in, I want a hot cup of coffee in the morning, and I want to be able to watch TV during down time, and blow dry my hair after a shower. Renting this golf villa, I was hardly able to do any of that. First off - aside from the couch and rug in the living room, the whole unit is dated. To the tune of the 80s. The 1st floor bed may have had my great-grandmothers hand made lace sheets on it, and shades on the window so paper-thin, it was almost awkward to sleep there. The shower curtain with tie backs should be put back in the '91 JCPenny catalog they came out of. We pulled some extra blankets from the closet, they may have been purchased and washed in the same year...gross. A Macy's one-day sale would cover all the updating needed. Coffee maker? Junk... My luke warm black water wasn't going to do it for me. I get that this is a rental unit, but there should be some minimum requirements to meet before entering the rental program. (Put one of these on the Macy's list too). There were two grills on the patio...which led us to have hope at least one worked. One had a knob missing, and some sticks in it from who knows when, and no LP tank attached. Maybe it's time for that one to go?? The other (same brand/model) thankfully worked. Trying to sit down and enjoy a cocktail while your steak is cooking is another story... This bargain hunters gem of a POS table and chair set may have set the owners back all of $50 during a Menards 11% sale. Not at all comfy, but the clear result of a 'eh, this'll do' moment. Don't worry, there's no view to speak of here anyway...completely wooded back yard. There's a fairway back there, but you aren't going to witness any golf, only the screams and splashes in the close by pool. Cleanliness was also an issue throughout our weekend getaway. Though this may be the fault of the rental company, and not the owners. Most of the dishes and glasses we first grabbed were dirty. I ended up throwing everything I could into the dishwasher for a round of cleaning (and I'd thought I left cleaning at home for the weekend). The bathrooms were half decent, but visible dust, hairs, and other miscellaneous debris were evident on the counters, sinks, and tubs. There was also no blow dryer to be found. I guess I assumed there would be one, my bad. The towels all had a mildew scent to them, and were also thrown in the washer/dryer to pre-wash while we ran out for some groceries. Again, things I didn't think I'd need to do while away for the weekend. TV? Ha. There are about 10 channels to chose from, and zero wifi, or cellular service for that matter. Being able to disconnect from life is one thing, but wondering if you could even call 9-1-1 during an emergency is another. Standard cable and wifi should also be a requirement on these rental units. Everyone has down time during their vacation and wants to watch tv or catch up on Twitter. The Walnut Hill pool... Part of why we decided to rent this unit for the weekend was that it had its own pool (separate from the Owners Club) and since it was late July, we figured we'd avoid some of the crowd there. The pool area was nice, lounge chairs and patio tables with umbrella were not skimped out on. Though the one we chose wasn't in optimal working order, go figure. The pool water was cold for late July, and definitely needed a cleaning. The bottom was filthy, and I saw a band-aid float by at one point. This unit will not be on our list of future places to rent from.

I had a visit planned this year and I had to cancel. I followed the cancelation policy (and submitted their form on their website) and they still refused to refund me. This is not professional behavior expected of a business. Please be weary when deciding to have your stay here. You will have a great time but if you need to cancel, THEY WILL KEEP YOUR MONEY and refuse contact with you. They do not respect or follow their own policies. Don't fall for it. They will not refund your money if you cancel within the time frame stated in their policies.

For some reason I had thought these cabins where going to be spaced a little further apart, the where relatively close to each other, kind of like a city neighborhood. I don't know where I got that impression, but they never advertised it that way. We stayed in the Grant cabin, it was the smallest log cabin they had and it was perfect for the two of us. It was nice and cozy. The cabin was clean and waiting for us. The owner/operator welcomed us cheerfully and explained the amenities. The cabin comes with a microwave, fridge, Jacuzzi tub, TV, fireplace and firewood. There is a couch and small table and chairs to eat at. They supply you with a cork screw, coffee pot/coffee, wine glasses and tumbler glasses. In the fridge was a delicious loaf of homemade blueberry bread and two bottles of orange juice. On bench that served as a coffee table between the couch and the fire place there was a guest book where people put in their stories and a binder with fliers and menus for local business and restaurants. One of the neatest part was the history of the building, not just how old it was but the impact of various guests. There were pennies and corks wedged into the walls at different places, left by guests as a reminder of their visit. Keep this in mind when you show up so you don't get annoyed like I did that someone jammed a cork someplace and the owner didn't clean. My wife and I left our own mark. I loved the location and the feel and can't wait to go back. I will say that at $228.00 after tax a night is a little pricey, but well worth the ambiance and experience.
