Many are familiar with Eagle Ridge resort, which resides in the Galena territory. Instead, call Dixie at A+ rentals, and rent a beautiful, private house from one of the owners for less than many of the hotels and b & b's in the area. We spent the weekend in Galena, and got a beautiful, modern and well-appointed 3 bedroom house in the wooded area of the Galena territory, for only $159 per night. The Galena territory is a large resort area full of wildlife, hills and rolling terrain, riding stables, lake, golf course, etc. Just about 10 minutes away is the town of Galena, a collection of charming little shoppes and great restaurants and bars. If you are active, you'll enjoy the challenges that the rolling terrain lends to runners (my butt is still hurting today!). Also, we saw tons of wildlife on our runs: a red headed woodpecker, a bobcat, lots of deer and wild turkey. At night we were able to enjoy a romantic fire and gaze out into the beautiful wooded landscape. And you can view the various properties online to decide which one appeals to you. The cool thing is they only charge you for the amount of people on the trip, so in some cases, you may even end up in a huge 6 bedrrom house and pay the same as per a small townhome.

I used to take my littles there multiple times a year, but they are now 12 and 9 and even they are starting to take notice of how trashy it is getting. All that staff seems to be allowed to do is nicely ask them to stop, which is not doing anything to correct the situation. Someone needs to start pulling some passes for the day so the word gets out so that the behavior doesn't kill this ski hill!!!

The pancakes were super fluffy with this amazing cinnamon and citrus butter that took an already amazing pancake to a height I have rarely experienced. ..the next morning was the homemade cinnamon rolls. This is all made possible by two amazing inn keepers in Jim and John. They are funny, creative, awesome people whose number one goal is to make your stay incredible. They also have a barn with ducks, goats, and chickens. Meeting the animals is an experience in itself, but I have to let you experience some of the amazing things for yourself. Enjoy! The home is located in a great area, less than 5 minutes from Galena's Main Street. As with most bed and breakfasts, there is no elevator and guests need to use the stairs.

129 Walnut Hill It…read moredoesn't really take much to make me happy...and on a weekend getaway, I'm only really looking for 4 things. I want to sleep in, I want a hot cup of coffee in the morning, and I want to be able to watch TV during down time, and blow dry my hair after a shower. Renting this golf villa, I was hardly able to do any of that. First off - aside from the couch and rug in the living room, the whole unit is dated. To the tune of the 80s. The 1st floor bed may have had my great-grandmothers hand made lace sheets on it, and shades on the window so paper-thin, it was almost awkward to sleep there. The shower curtain with tie backs should be put back in the '91 JCPenny catalog they came out of. We pulled some extra blankets from the closet, they may have been purchased and washed in the same year...gross. A Macy's one-day sale would cover all the updating needed. Coffee maker? Junk... My luke warm black water wasn't going to do it for me. I get that this is a rental unit, but there should be some minimum requirements to meet before entering the rental program. (Put one of these on the Macy's list too). There were two grills on the patio...which led us to have hope at least one worked. One had a knob missing, and some sticks in it from who knows when, and no LP tank attached. Maybe it's time for that one to go?? The other (same brand/model) thankfully worked. Trying to sit down and enjoy a cocktail while your steak is cooking is another story... This bargain hunters gem of a POS table and chair set may have set the owners back all of $50 during a Menards 11% sale. Not at all comfy, but the clear result of a 'eh, this'll do' moment. Don't worry, there's no view to speak of here anyway...completely wooded back yard. There's a fairway back there, but you aren't going to witness any golf, only the screams and splashes in the close by pool. Cleanliness was also an issue throughout our weekend getaway. Though this may be the fault of the rental company, and not the owners. Most of the dishes and glasses we first grabbed were dirty. I ended up throwing everything I could into the dishwasher for a round of cleaning (and I'd thought I left cleaning at home for the weekend). The bathrooms were half decent, but visible dust, hairs, and other miscellaneous debris were evident on the counters, sinks, and tubs. There was also no blow dryer to be found. I guess I assumed there would be one, my bad. The towels all had a mildew scent to them, and were also thrown in the washer/dryer to pre-wash while we ran out for some groceries. Again, things I didn't think I'd need to do while away for the weekend. TV? Ha. There are about 10 channels to chose from, and zero wifi, or cellular service for that matter. Being able to disconnect from life is one thing, but wondering if you could even call 9-1-1 during an emergency is another. Standard cable and wifi should also be a requirement on these rental units. Everyone has down time during their vacation and wants to watch tv or catch up on Twitter. The Walnut Hill pool... Part of why we decided to rent this unit for the weekend was that it had its own pool (separate from the Owners Club) and since it was late July, we figured we'd avoid some of the crowd there. The pool area was nice, lounge chairs and patio tables with umbrella were not skimped out on. Though the one we chose wasn't in optimal working order, go figure. The pool water was cold for late July, and definitely needed a cleaning. The bottom was filthy, and I saw a band-aid float by at one point. This unit will not be on our list of future places to rent from.

This place will remind you of the days visiting your own grandparents out on the farm. Lorraine makes delicious cookies and has coffee ready for the early risers at 6:30am. Breakfast is ready for you to enjoy between 8am & 10am. Each room has its own bathroom & key so you will feel safe & secure - although Galena is a pretty safe place.
