Excellent stay. Modern clean property. Excellent gym, filtered water system. Love the walk in…read moreshower and kitchen in my room. Windows that open for fresh air. Excellent staff, breakfast, eating area. The train going by didn't disturb me at 1 am. Thought it might. It didn't, I loved it. We don't have trains in Hawaii, it reminded me of growing up in Ca and the fondness I have of trains in the Midwest. Landscaping was really nice. They have a fire pit and cruise, sit-down area in the front of the hotel. I didn't sit there, but groups of ppl did at sunset and enjoyed their time. Super cool location. Right near downtown, renovated, historic district and walkable to the walking trail along the Mississippi. I loved this place. So central to everything. I stayed 5 nights visiting my Mom, so I got a good feel for this place. Housekeeping and breakfast attendants were super polite and friendly too. Nice experience. Thank you Marriott and Mgr Ms Rodger's and all the staff. 1 thing, the darn HVAC A/C kept coming on when I would turn it off. It would get cold in the room so I kept having to turn that darn thing off. Irritating after a 5 day stay, perpetually having to turn that thing off 6x a day or more. Rrrrr

Usually have had a decent experience here. Got in before 10 after a long drive to try and walk in…read moreto a locked door and no one behind the desk. I had to finally call and the lady appeared. I was quickly checked in which I did appreciate. Not with the same attention I have been in the past but checked in nonetheless. I checked in on the mobile app requesting a late check out of 4pm. I should have realized someone wouldn't go to bat to help but realized my request didn't go through until the morning. I asked as soon as I went down an was told there was nothing she could do since it was too late. I don't doubt she couldn't do anything as she wasn't empowered to do it. Said someone from "sales" would be in and they could help. When I returned, it was the same woman and had to ask if she was able to get someone to help and she said she could do anything. Before that I had asked her to try for a late checkout at 1 which she said was likely the most she could do. That was granted and as disappointed in the failure of the app I was happy to have that since I had no place to go for a few hours. Unfortunately, I don't believe she tried to go above and beyond that. Prior to that, I had come down the evening before to wait for Uber Eats to no one behind the desk again. When she did come out, I asked for a a bag for the ice machine since we don't have a bucket. Was told I'd get a bucket she assured was clean. She came back and offered bowls. Bowls that you'd use for soup or ice cream. Because they don't have any ice buckets. Who is taking their ice buckets? Back to the morning of requesting a late check out, there was no one behind the counter again. Had to wait and the same person from the night before finally showed up. Understaffed? Not empowered? Doesn't care? Idk... disappointed in this stay and see lots of room for improvement.

Hotel Julien Dubuque is one of those classic grand hotels that immediately leaves an impression. I…read moreabsolutely loved the atmosphere from the moment I walked into the lobby. It has that traditional old-world charm, and it's amazing to see how well the historic architecture and interior details have been preserved over the years. The building has so much character, which makes the stay feel unique compared to modern hotels. The front desk staff were friendly and accommodating, and the hotel also offers a large parking area behind the building, which was very convenient. Our room overlooked the river, and the view was fantastic, especially in the evening. We only stayed for one night before continuing our trip, but we thoroughly enjoyed our time here. There are also several restaurants within walking distance, making it easy to find different dining options. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and I would gladly return the next time I'm in Dubuque.

However the next day I returned for breakfast and the person asking to take my order had long polished nails. Long and or polished nails act as magnets to germs and bacteria. I left. The hotel room left a lot to be desired. Since my stay I've left 2 messages with the GM which have been ignored.

Not much for climate control but a ceiling fan and opening windows. Tini-Tiny bathroom. So small the sink is on the outside. Smoking allowed in building. Train!!!! 3am train We found this on yelp that everyone was getting a kick out of this place so we decided to try it. Called ahead (from across town). The woman on the phone was very kind. Walked into the old fashioned lobby and checked right in without any hassle. Besides the front desk is a small market of choices for snacks incase you forgot something. The woman was friendly again and told us all that we needed to know. She told us about the adjoining bar that opened later that night. The two creepy life sized Native Indian dolls weren't much for conversation. Got in the rather old elevator....It made lots of noises as we ascended to our floor. Using an actual key we went into the room. The rooms decor was like stepping into my grandma house. It actually had a grandparent smell. We cracked up at the size of the "queen" bed. That is not a queen. It was clean though. Minus a couple little things the bed was clean and that's important. There was a mini fridge, a couch, a microwave and about 6 different lamps in our one room. What made me laugh the hardest was the instant coffee maker..The antique. Even had the plastic mini cups holders. Oh I was afraid of setting something on fire. You're adventurous right? Tired of the same old hotels, yea try this one for a whole new experience. Also the bar attached to the hotel has karaoke every night and the staff is very welcoming. Within walking distance of many places to eat.
