The room for the half assed breakfast is in no way large enough to accommodate the number of guests being dupped into staying hear. The beds are like "trying" to sleep on a board with noisy tin underneath. Horrible experience.

However, it was so disappointing and gross to have to sleep in our booked room for three nights. A few things-- 1.) There was NEVER anyone at the front desk!!! Who are we supposed to direct questions or concerns to? 2.) The "free" morning breakfasts consisted some type of greasy meet, watery eggs, and stale blueberry muffins, bagels, etc. We didn't even bother to grab breakfast there on our way home. 3.) Our room smelled of cigarette smoke and I had a near anaphylaxis reaction to SOMETHING in our room all three nights. Every night we came home, there was about a 2-3 hour window where I was fine... and then just like that the hives would return with a vengeance. I haven't had a rash/hive or issue with my breathing like that in a long time. I have severe allergies to both dust and mold... 4.) The note (see photo) was left on our bedside table sometime on Saturday. What the hell...? They wouldn't touch the bed because it had one of our blankets from home on it. I travel extensively for work and have spent many a nights/days in hotels for conferences, advocacy work, clinical trial panels...you name it. I always bring a blanket and no one has ever refused to tidy up my room or change out my linens because of it. Yes, that happened. The hotel cleaners didn't even bother to take our dirty linens?! 5.) I have a disability/handicapped placard as I have a rare condition that causes significant changes in blood sugar and blood pressure. I also have rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease. We utilize the placard ESPECIALLY when out of town because of my personal luggage, food, medical supplies, medications, etc. on top of my partner's. The entire time we were at the hotel, some asshole was parked like an asshole and took up TWO disability/handicapped parking spots (there were only two). Now, why am I FURIOUS about this? Because there was absolutely no placard or documentation on the truck's dash, taped to a window, displayed in the back, on the license plate, etc. etc. etc. NONE. AND THERE WAS NO ONE TO REPORT IT TO. We have good friends in this area but will never, ever stay here again.

4/5 stars for rooms being dated and needing some work- we…read moredrove 3 hrs each way from Indiana for a little weekend getaway over new years 2024-2025. we rented a suite that had a king bed with a stand up shower and soaker tub and a living room area with a couch that pulled out into a bed and a kitchenette area with a breakfast bar and some stools, microwave and mini fridge. there was no stove or hot plate but there was a mini sink in that area. the room was dated and worn in some ways, but overall I felt it was clean enough. I was not disgusted but it was clear that typical maintenance and updating was needed. The sheets and blankets were clean and there was not a bad smell or anything so it served its purpose for two adults and two young children. I was worried about this place due to negative reviews but I went into it with an open mind. The front desk staff was very kind and seemed happy to assist in any way they could. there is no room service and the only food options are the restaurant in the hotel which closes at 8pm, the snack bar in the water park itself which seemed to have a lot of decent options (we didn't order anything from there though), and local fast food places 5-10 minutes within driving distance. As far as the waterpark goes- our experience was lovely. The place seemed overall clean! there was a good amount of lifeguard staff and a few people walking around cleaning as needed, a child had a toileting accident and another family dropped some food or drink near the snack bar and the staff blocked things off and started cleaning whatever the mess was immediately and thoroughly. 2 adult hot tubs we good sized and parents were good about not letting children play a lot in them. There wasn't a film floating on the water at all, the pool deck and tables and chairs were clean and there was always plenty of clean dry towels available. The water and air temperature was comfortable as well. there was a good sized baby area for the really little ones. The larger structure did have some rust spots and wear and tear present but I haven't been to a water park structure that didn't have that. overall it was structurally sound and I felt comfortable and not grossed out by anything. Breakfast was provided each morning and there was a little bit of everything available but not an over abundance. Toast, bagels, cereal, scrambled eggs, sausage... enough to start the day before going to swim. For the price it cost, we felt we got plenty for what we paid. We will visit again when we need a little water getaway on a budget.

Instead we chanced it and my 6 year old ended up with crazy hives on our last day, after 2 days of waterpark. Doctor confirmed it folliculitis from the waterpark and said she also treated another kid from the same one some time ago. The TVs were straight out of the 90's no ability to stream as even cheap hotels do now. You had to wait 30 minutes to go up or down on the elevator. The continental breakfast was an absolute joke with a line that was an hour long. Literally worst waterpark hotel I have ever been to. Stay away!

The Squiers Manor is an experience. No detail left undone. Recently, I needed to be in Maquoketa, Iowa, for a wedding, and I was glad to learn of the highly reviewed Squiers Manor B&B. With short notice I was able to make a reservation in the Beulah Room, named after one of the Squiers daughter's who grew up and was married in the house, whose father the house was built for. It was a lovely room with a twin bed for our 9 year old daughter, and at a most reasonable price too. The furnishings in our room and all the others we were able to see, were stunning. This may have been the finest B&B I have ever stayed in anywhere in the US and Canada. But not only was the building grand, and furnishings fantastic (Kathy and her husband are antique dealers and have searched high and low for the most amazing furnishings for their B&B), the hospitality was grand too. Kathy accommodated our need to check in a bit before standard check in between 4-8pm, and kindly greeted us and gave us a full tour of the house. If we have any disappointment at all, it was that we could not stay longer, enjoy the evening dessert or partake of the morning breakfast. We have heard it is great. We can't wait to get back to Maquoketa again and visit Squiers Manor again, and we would tell you to make a reservation here if you are passing through or staying for a few days in the area, it is a MAGNIFICENT B&B.
