This place is a disgusting shithole…read more I rolled into Dubuque late at night. The first room I was given smelled horrendously of cigarette smoke, so badly that my eyes started watering within seconds of entering the room. I went back down to the front desk and requested a new room. The guy started doing some things on the computer, then another employee walked in and they started speaking in Russian or some other Cyrillic language for several seconds. Kind of weird, because the second guy had greeted me when I first arrived, and he seemed perfectly fluent in English. It just seemed weird that two people who both seemed fluent in English would switch, discuss something, and then the first guy completed the discussion with me in English. The second guy, the one who had originally greeted, had red eyes and looked high AF. Just a really bizarre experience. I got to my second room and immediately noted that it sounded like a window was open. I checked, and it was. There was a faint smell of cigarette smoke in the room, and I am fairly certain that this window was left open to dissipate the smell. I turned on the lights and noticed that the placard on the phone was yellow with nicotine stain. Wtf? This is a fairly modern looking hotel. Certainly renovated not very long ago. What modern hotel has nicotine stains? Then I needed to use the toilet, and discovered that the bathroom stank horribly of cigarette smoke. Like someone had been smoking in there immediately before I entered the room. And it still stank just as strongly in the morning when I woke up. I think someone had been smoking in the bathroom with the exhaust fan on, thinking that it would magically make the stink not go everywhere else. I went downstairs for breakfast and there were biscuits on the hot food display. Just biscuits. No eggs, no bacon or sausage or anything else for hot food. I grabbed a biscuit and some jelly. I went to get a glass of orange juice, and the machine just discharged water. This was at 7:00, and breakfast hours start at 6:30. It's not like I got down to the breakfast area right at the beginning of breakfast and they hadn't had time yet to bring the rest of the food out or restock the juice machine with concentrate mix. If you're traveling into Dubuque, avoid this place. It smells bad, the breakfast is literally just biscuits, and you can't even get a glass of orange juice to wash down your biscuit.

We stayed here for two nights. Average at best…read more Checking in was difficult with no desk staff. The attendant was gone and put up a sign stating that they were helping another guest. I understand that, but there should be a second person filling in while the other is gone. Also, the lobby is very smoky smelling. Obviously, smoking isn't allowed inside but the odors from outside drift in pretty heavily. We were in room #308 and had cracked tiles in the bathroom, our tub drained poorly, and there was a mini fridge but no microwave. Luckily, the bed was comfortable and the room temperature was fine. I'm not a snob when it comes to complimentary breakfast (it is what it is), but those "egg frittatas" you serve are horrible. Ice cold and dried out. I know a lot of hotels serve the reconstituted scrambled eggs and those aren't great either but they're a lot better than the egg discs you serve. Sausage links were good. French toast was ok, but not great. On Sunday morning, we noticed the offerings were pretty much the same, except for ham instead of sausage. The ham was literally deli meat floating in water. Should've stuck with sausage. Also, there was no attendant keeping the breakfast area clean and stocked. The area by the waffle iron and mini fridge was a sloppy mess. Overall, I don't understand the $250 a night room rate. For a mid-range hotel, I don't know what is driving these prices. Perhaps it was the swarm of little league players in the area or just general summer vacation travelers. We had family staying at the Country Inn & Suites in Galena and that seemed to be a much nicer location than this one. Great pool with water slide and a much better maintained facility. I suppose if you couldn't find anything else in the Galena/Dubuque area, this Country Inn & Suites would serve it's purpose, but I'm sure you could find a more appealing hotel elsewhere.

I'm extremely disappointed and disturbed by the hateful and false reviews I've come across…read moreregarding this place. Many of the comments are not only full of misinformation and outright lies, but they're also racist and degrading toward Black individuals. These reviews are clearly not based on facts or actual experiences, but on deep-rooted prejudice, aimed at painting Black people in a negative light. This kind of language is harmful, deformational, and dangerous -- and it has no place on any public platform or in any community that claims to support fairness, truth, and equality. Spreading stereotypes and false accusations is not just offensive -- it fuels discrimination and perpetuates harmful narratives about Black people that are rooted in racism, not reality. I hope the platform or business takes this seriously and reviews these comments for removal. Silence in the face of racism is complicity. We all deserve to be treated with dignity, not falsely portrayed by people hiding behind a keyboard and using reviews as a weapon of hate. Do better. This isn't just about a business -- it's about basic human decency. I had a really good experience during my stay at this hotel. The manager was welcoming, helpful, and professional throughout my visit, and a few other guests were also kind and respectful. The room was clean, comfortable, and I appreciated how easy it was to check in and get settled. However, I've noticed some of the reviews posted online about this place -- and I have to say, they are deeply troubling, dishonest, and rooted in racism. Some of the comments are filled with misinformation and hateful stereotypes about Black people, painting an unfair and completely false narrative. Let me be clear: those reviews do not reflect the truth about this hotel or the people who stay here. They reflect the personal biases of individuals who are using public platforms to spread harmful, racist narratives -- and that should never be tolerated. It's disheartening to see false and deformational comments being used as a weapon to demean an entire group of people. That's not just inappropriate -- it's dangerous. Thankfully, my actual experience with the staff and fellow guests was nothing like what those negative reviews claimed. The environment was peaceful, respectful, and safe. I hope that anyone reading those hateful reviews will look deeper, and I also hope the platform takes appropriate action to remove false and racist content. We should all be held to a higher standard -- one based on truth, respect, and fairness.
