I struggled whether or not to go 4 or 5 stars on this one. I simply ordered the wrong item. I should have known that you shouldn't order a hamburger in a bbq joint. To be fair there was little wrong w the BBQ burger there was just nothing that blew me away. However the nachos with the pulled pork were exceptional and I enjoyed that they used home made potato chips instead of tortilla chips. Others in my party ordered the bowl w Mac and cheese covered in bbq called the fern bowl. They loved it as well. The presentation of the food is good and the atmosphere is unique and inviting. The staff is friendly and my only complaint is my senior citizen mother was not allowed to order off the kids menu until she really pushed it and they finally let her. Plan some extra time to have a beer at the Amor Artis brewery next door. Loved the fact that they had toys for my 2 year old to play with while we had a pint. read more

Good BBQ. Fun Menu. Cool Atmosphere. I'm so glad that Fort Mill's Main Street is adding some fun local flare. If you're looking for BBQ with a twist, but options to please everyone, this is a must. Because of the location and refurb of an old building, the place is small. If you go on a weekend night, or around dinner time, you'll find a wait, but it's worth it. I always go with the Fort Mill Plate- one meat and two sides. I've tried the collards (a little beat of spice and leafy), jalapeño cheese grits (just a hint of jalapeño flavor, but not always thick), mac and cheese (basic, but good) and sweet potato casserole (served piping hot so don't expect to eat it first). A friend of mine always gets the bowl and loves it. For an app, get the hush puppies (out of this world) or the improper nachos (but don't expect real nachos, instead it's salt and vinegar home style chips covered in pimento cheese). The table has an array of BBQ sauces so every palate has an option. Great local spot I highly recommend. Only negatives for me are the seats in the bar, small and uncomfortable, and the Eastern BBQ which is vinegar based goes everywhere because of the bottle it's in. Don't wear your favorite white top and you'll be just fine. I almost forgot! The sweet stuff. Get the banana pudding for desert. This stuff is the real deal. Thick with the perfect ratio of wafers to banners to cool whip to pudding. 10 out of 10 and big enough for two or even three if you're generous! read more

This was a trendy little place in downtown Fort Mill. As featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives this was certainly worth the hype. Stopped by after a softball tournament nearby and it was later so we were seated within about thirty minutes. I ordered the Southern Salmon BLT which had a healthy portion salmon filet with thick bacon, homemade pimento cheese and of course lettuce tomato and mayo all sandwiched between two slices of buttered Texas toast! Paired this with the jalapeño cheddar grits as a side and wow it was so yummy! My wife ordered a steak and said it was cooked to perfection. It was gone before I had a chance to try it unfortunately lol. One of my kids got the Improper Nachos for a meal and I eat some of these topped with chicken, pimento cheese and scallions and they too were delicious. My other kid got the mac&cheese cheeseburger. For dessert we all split some of the homemade banana pudding and it was so heavenly. They have several homemade sauces with were all unique and good and the homemade pimento cheese well I got some to-go... Val our server was top notch, personable and took really good care of our table! I gave it a full five stars because of the food alone but would be willing to give it six because Val made it all worthwhile! She was awesome! Stopped by early Sunday night for dinner. I had the BBQ Burger, the burger cooked perfectly med. rare. But the toasted burger bun was burnt and hard had to ask for a new bun. Wife ordered the salad with Salmon. There was a miscommunication and she did not get the Salmon. Server corrected but Salmon was suppose to be med rare and came out raw. Sent back to kitchen and came back quickly med rare. Not sure if they put back on the grill or just microwaved. She enjoyed it once it was done correctly. We were excited to try this restaurant because I had heard really great things from neighbors. Although we were disappointed with the food, the restaurant was cute and quaint with good service. The ribs were HOT but cooked hard and dry. We ordered the sweet potato fries, which were room temp. After I asked whether they were cooked to order, we were brought fresh hot ones. Super excited about this location, the interior is well done with lots of historical elements. Staff super friendly and Chris was working the floor attentively and very personable. We frequent the uptown location and this menu is a bit different and I struggled with my over cooked wings. I am 100% sure they would have tried to fix, but every table looked like the same over cooked wings, just not on point tonight. Brisket is super super super tasty. Sides are not huge, some are upcharge items. The chocolate pie is creamy and rich that needs a tad more whip cream to counter the richness of the chocolate. Sad, this place could be sooo good. We started next door at a brewery, we were told while drinking that if we ordered from the improper pig they would walk it over (next door). Called in a n order and was told to come pick it up...no big deal it's literally next door. We ordered some hush puppies and some edemame to start...walked over at the agreed upon time and order not ready..no biggie I can wait. 10 later they gave me a bag, charged me 25$ and on my way...after walking back tor the brewery just cold hush puppies. Had to go back for the 3rd time they added a the edemame...which was ok at best. Service sucks, food is barely ok and price is high. Don't come here, with so many options and with no one in the restaurant can't get an order right can t see a reason to give them a second chance. Sad because it could be real good. read more

If you are in the rock hill area- please give them a try. They are simply delicious. I got the fern bowl ( Mac n cheese with pulled pork, pickled onions and cole slaw on the side). My husband and son both got the brisket. When I tell you it was the most tender and flavorful meat! Oh my goodness! I wish I would've taken a pic of our plates- but we dived in so quick. We ordered the Charcuterie for two...all the meats were outstanding with an awesome variety of bbq sauces. Visited last night while we killed some time in Downtown Fort Mill. I absolutely loved the space and the decorations. The bar, although we didn't sit there, seemed small but cozy and laid out in a way that requires to interact with those around you, i love that. Our server, I forgot his name but he a young guy, was very helpful, professional, and great all around. If all servers were half as good as this guy, you'd never have a bad experience in a restaurant. This kid was good at what he did. We ended up ordering half a rack of ribs with spicy green beans and the brisket with jalapeño grits and waffle sweet potato fries. First of all, I don't like grits, but I devoured every little bit of those jalapeño grits. They were definitely the best thing we had! I mean, I will go back just to order buckets of this stuff. The waffle fries and green beans were on point too. Now, the meats. All the flavors were definitely there. The ribs were nice and smoky and the brisket still had a nice layer of fat that melted in your mouth. Unfortunately, both the ribs and especially the brisket seemed slightly overcooked. My brisket was a little on the drier side. I expect both ribs and brisket to literally melt as you touch it. Neither did this. Again, still very enjoyable, full of flavor and delicious. They have a variety of sauces and, of course, I tried them all. The Queen Bee is definitely the star of the show! I will definitely go back and try more of their dishes, so, good job! read more

I loved the BBQ sauce variety and the waffle style sweet potato fries. The meat was tender, but slightly dry; the sauce fixed that. The service was great and the quality of the food outstanding. We had the pulled pork sandwiches with French fries onnthe side. Absolutely delicious. We went here for my husband's birthday and we were pleasantly surprised. It is definitely a combination of Asian and BBQ. The charcuterie board was delicious and unconventional. After a few visits my stars have gone up. I wasn't completely sold on this place but I have to say, it's grown on me. The staff has always been stellar, they are friendly and knowledgeable. There is always a manager coming around high fiving the kids and making sure everything is delicious. I have had the Smoked Chicken Greek pita, Fern bowl and the Boa Sliders. Fern Bowl by far was my favorite, the pickled onion MADE this dish. If you don't like them pick a different meal otherwise you are eating mac and cheese. The location is super cute and has a little bit of for mill history in it being in that location. It's a great spot with lots of traffic. The step up into the bar area fit nicely. I will say the one thing I really dislike is the bathroom situation. You have to leave through the back hallway and go out into a shared hallway with the brewery. I would think that's fine BUT there are two stalls. People drinking using the restroom and always long lines. It's not pleasant standing on that line for 15 minutes with two small children waiting. They are definitely a hot spot for Fort Mill - and rightfully so! Good BBQ with some creative dishes that make it different from any plain BBQ place. Pork rolls - like an egg roll but 'Merican style, BBQ Nachos - that are on house made chips with pimento cheese (THESE ARE REALLLLLLLY GOOD!!!) and pork tacos. The place is nice, but SMALL. That is the thing that stinks - it is constantly a 45 minute wait, though it is deserving of the buzz. Service has been pretty good - first 2 times was excellent, the last was OK (not bad though, just slower than expected during a slow late lunch time).
