Good BBQ. Fun Menu. Cool Atmosphere. I'm so glad that Fort Mill's Main Street is adding some fun local flare. If you're looking for BBQ with a twist, but options to please everyone, this is a must. Because of the location and refurb of an old building, the place is small. If you go on a weekend night, or around dinner time, you'll find a wait, but it's worth it. I always go with the Fort Mill Plate- one meat and two sides. I've tried the collards (a little beat of spice and leafy), jalapeño cheese grits (just a hint of jalapeño flavor, but not always thick), mac and cheese (basic, but good) and sweet potato casserole (served piping hot so don't expect to eat it first). A friend of mine always gets the bowl and loves it. For an app, get the hush puppies (out of this world) or the improper nachos (but don't expect real nachos, instead it's salt and vinegar home style chips covered in pimento cheese). The table has an array of BBQ sauces so every palate has an option. Great local spot I highly recommend. Only negatives for me are the seats in the bar, small and uncomfortable, and the Eastern BBQ which is vinegar based goes everywhere because of the bottle it's in. Don't wear your favorite white top and you'll be just fine. I almost forgot! The sweet stuff. Get the banana pudding for desert. This stuff is the real deal. The BBQ and Brisket was tasty, however it was cold. The fries and hush puppies were also cold. We were surprised that the warm food wasn't warm and it really affected how we felt about the place. Three stars are for the service, which was decent, and food flavor. They really need to serve warm food warm, however and I'm not sure we will be going back. read more

Sad, this place could be sooo good. We started next door at a brewery, we were told while drinking that if we ordered from the improper pig they would walk it over (next door). Called in a n order and was told to come pick it up...no big deal it's literally next door. We ordered some hush puppies and some edemame to start...walked over at the agreed upon time and order not ready..no biggie I can wait. 10 later they gave me a bag, charged me 25$ and on my way...after walking back tor the brewery just cold hush puppies. Had to go back for the 3rd time they added a the edemame...which was ok at best. Service sucks, food is barely ok and price is high. Don't come here, with so many options and with no one in the restaurant can't get an order right can t see a reason to give them a second chance. Sad because it could be real good. read more

Super excited about this location, the interior is well done with lots of historical elements. Staff super friendly and Chris was working the floor attentively and very personable. We frequent the uptown location and this menu is a bit different and I struggled with my over cooked wings. I am 100% sure they would have tried to fix, but every table looked like the same over cooked wings, just not on point tonight. Brisket is super super super tasty. Sides are not huge, some are upcharge items. The chocolate pie is creamy and rich that needs a tad more whip cream to counter the richness of the chocolate. Visited last night while we killed some time in Downtown Fort Mill. I absolutely loved the space and the decorations. The bar, although we didn't sit there, seemed small but cozy and laid out in a way that requires to interact with those around you, i love that. Our server, I forgot his name but he a young guy, was very helpful, professional, and great all around. If all servers were half as good as this guy, you'd never have a bad experience in a restaurant. This kid was good at what he did. We ended up ordering half a rack of ribs with spicy green beans and the brisket with jalapeño grits and waffle sweet potato fries. First of all, I don't like grits, but I devoured every little bit of those jalapeño grits. They were definitely the best thing we had! I mean, I will go back just to order buckets of this stuff. The waffle fries and green beans were on point too. Now, the meats. All the flavors were definitely there. The ribs were nice and smoky and the brisket still had a nice layer of fat that melted in your mouth. Unfortunately, both the ribs and especially the brisket seemed slightly overcooked. My brisket was a little on the drier side. I expect both ribs and brisket to literally melt as you touch it. Neither did this. Again, still very enjoyable, full of flavor and delicious. They have a variety of sauces and, of course, I tried them all. The Queen Bee is definitely the star of the show! I will definitely go back and try more of their dishes, so, good job! read more

After a few visits my stars have gone up. I wasn't completely sold on this place but I have to say, it's grown on me. The staff has always been stellar, they are friendly and knowledgeable. There is always a manager coming around high fiving the kids and making sure everything is delicious. I have had the Smoked Chicken Greek pita, Fern bowl and the Boa Sliders. Fern Bowl by far was my favorite, the pickled onion MADE this dish. If you don't like them pick a different meal otherwise you are eating mac and cheese. The location is super cute and has a little bit of for mill history in it being in that location. It's a great spot with lots of traffic. The step up into the bar area fit nicely. I will say the one thing I really dislike is the bathroom situation. You have to leave through the back hallway and go out into a shared hallway with the brewery. I would think that's fine BUT there are two stalls. People drinking using the restroom and always long lines. It's not pleasant standing on that line for 15 minutes with two small children waiting. Pork rolls - like an egg roll but 'Merican style, BBQ Nachos - that are on house made chips with pimento cheese (THESE ARE REALLLLLLLY GOOD!!!) and pork tacos. The place is nice, but SMALL. That is the thing that stinks - it is constantly a 45 minute wait, though it is deserving of the buzz. Service has been pretty good - first 2 times was excellent, the last was OK (not bad though, just slower than expected during a slow late lunch time). Six kinds of bbq sauce, my fave was the vinegar based Carolina style, but we tried them all and loved them. The lovely staff even sold us a few bottles and are going to ship them home so we don't have to travel with two bottles of sauce. The pork roll was out of this world. My daughter was going to have her husband's birthday dinner at another location but after she had called the establishment they said they did not take reservations. She told them that she needed seating for 24. They said they had tables. When we arrived they said they could not sit everyone together and it was going to be a 2 hour wait. My daughter (being upset of course) she called The Improper Pig and the young lady said that they could accommodate us with no problem!
