I was craving some hot dogs and ended up finding The Hot Dog Cafe. This spot was busy. The parking lot was already full when I pulled up, so I knew I was probably in the right place. I ended up ordering three chili dogs along with a cheeseburger and fries. The hot dogs definitely hit the spot and took care of that craving. The burger was good too, but those fresh-cut fries really stood out. They had their own lemonade They even gave me a few ranch cups without charging me, which was a nice surprise. Little things like that always get noticed. If you're planning on coming here, I'd recommend getting here a little early, especially around lunchtime. This place fills up fast, and after trying it, I can see why. But they still had plenty of seating in the inside so don't worry about that. I believe you will be fine. Overall, I have nothing bad to say about this spot. Good food, quick service, and it delivered exactly what I was looking for. Where do I begin? Well, let me start with saying I was really surprised that they boil their hot dogs here, unless you ask to have it grilled. Who boils hot dogs anymore? Oh my gosh! It wasn't just that it was boiled, but that the hot dog itself wasn't even good! I will say the people there were very kind, and the man that took my order did grill another hot dog for me, but it didn't improve the taste. My husband ordered a hot dog, fries and a drink. I had a hot dog and drink, and we were going to share the fries. I took one bite of each one and threw it away. I ate a couple of fries, which were not crispy or tasty at all, and didn't eat any more. We left the cafe and will not be back. I really do not see what people like about the food, at least not the hot dogs. They tasted like the hot dogs I had as a child and my mom would boil them. Even the bun wasn't good. I had mustard, ketchup, relish and onions on the hot dog so I could taste the hot dog. Really, how do you RUIN a hot dog? I guess by boiling it! The food is absolutely out of this world! I enjoyed my cheeseburger and fries and my husband loved the hotdogs and fries. Although the menu offers plenty of delicious choices, we decided to stick with our favorites. The chili is absolutely the best around ! The atmosphere was very welcoming and friendly. The dining area is very clean and so are the restrooms. We really enjoyed our lunch there and are looking forward to stopping by again soon. Oh, they have great tea and even the best kind of ice, crushed ! They are conveniently located between Spartanburg and Greer and are worth the drive from either direction. I came to the Hot Dog Cafe expecting a cornucopia of dog choices, and I was terribly disappointed. Their options were a regular hot dog, chili bun (no wiener), Dump Dog, Corn dog, bird dog and a plain wiener. I got a plate with a Dump dog, and regular hot dog fixed all the way. The best part of the experience was the Coke. My dog choices were mediocre at best and the fries were tasteless, soggy and sad. I sat at the 'bar' and had trouble eating due to the bar stools being way too short for the bar. The place seemed clean and the service was good, but I can find a better dog at a gas station. I was hoping to find a great little dog place, but next time I'll just go to the Clock. read more

The cafe is modest but very clean and decorated with a nostalgic Coca Cola theme. They have a lot of seating and at lunchtime it is necessary because the food is fresh, plenty, and very reasonably priced. Take cash and maybe loosen your belt one notch and take a drive to Lyman. Update. Getting better at the new location. No more triple fried french fries. I used to be a regular and now I don't know if i will ever go back. They used to cook your hamburger fresh, now they are precooked and sit on the side of the grill until you order. The burger is then pulled out and shot with some water and put under a pot lid until it warms up. The fries are refried multiple times. Part of your fries are so hard from being fried over and over and some are fresh because it was their first time in the oil. While I appreciate efficiency, they need to fry a batch of fries and use them all up. Don't keep the leftovers in the fry basket and add fresh fries over and over. I might go back one more time to see if the guy cooking was just a fluke and the regular ladies are back but for now I am leery and disappointed. read more

I said the hotdog cafe. They sure are busy my son said like they say if it's full with locals it has to be good. I said you want to get some hotdogs he said sure so we turned around and went in. Well they have hotdogs plus a whole lot more food items. The prices were fantastic. Just as soon as we walked in the glorious smell hit us and we were like it smells so good. We ordered ours to go. I had not been to the new location. The Dump Dog was as good as we remembered. Only complaint would be that it took a long time to be served after our order was taken, but it was worth the wait. No credit cards, so take enough cash to cover your bill. They do have an ATM onsite. read more
