I got ejected tonight, after a slip and fall on their dance floor. I had not even been there an hour, I was dancing from the moment I came in. After my slip, I went to the bar to buy a bottle of water. The manager, named Kevin, came over and told the bartender I was cut off from purchasing any alcoholic beverages. I have not even purchased any alcohol from the moment I walked in and had no intention to purchasing alcohol. My friend and I made a circle around the bar looking for a place to sit down, was not one. The assistant manager, I'm assuming, then came over and told us we were being asked to leave. They assumed I was but yet when I slipped and fell. Nobody came over there to make sure I was OK. Something is definitely wrong with this establishment and I would not recommend anyone going over there again. they need to be audited for their business practices. If I was too drunk to stay, why would they allow me to leave? If they were concerned about me being really injured, why do they not take an injury report? Something to think about! I will never return there, and I do not encourage anyone to ever go there again. I have medical issues, which sometimes causes me to slip and fall has nothing to do with alcohol at all. I'm not a club guy, but this place was A-OK on a single Saturday night visit recently. It's an old folks' club for sure -- 30s to 70s. Drinks are reasonably priced and servers were quick to and from our little table. Not that I was here for this, The Hop also has all the signs of being a 'meat market.' Overall Rating 2.5 rounded up This place has been around for years. Some of my aunts and uncles used to come here back in the day. The crowd ranges from early twenties to elders and is great for people watching. The music is a wide variety of oldies, country, pop, and some latest hits. Here's the negative: The Hop has great drink specials, food specials (although I haven't tried), and generates a decent crowd. I usually always have a good time; however, the smoke makes it impossible for me to have a great time. I'm sure it would probably upset some regulars, but if they could change this from a smoking bar to non-smoking bar and utilize the "unused" patio for smokers I'd gladly give them more stars. The waitress are so nice and have fast service. The bartenders are great at working diligently and efficiently, and the bar backs are as fast as I've ever seen. The manager is great and the door people are genuine. Definitely recommend! read more

The place would be 4 stars if it wasn't for the smoking. If you love to dance this would be a fun place to do it. Staff was friendly and attentive, drinks are decent. Only real downfall was the smoking and for such a compact space its magnified. read more

Awesome place to dance, or watch people dance. Cool lights. Nice dance floor and NON Smoking inside. I seen other reviews saying there is smoking inside, but they changed that. We had a mini-reunion this evening. The drink and food prices were reasonable. Service was relatively fast, friendly and professional. I ordered a burger platter with fries. It was a large and tasty burger with a fair amount of well seasoned fries. The building is old, but it did not take away from the experience. I'd go back again. read more

Their staff, meaning the bartenders and the door man, are SO rude. First and foremost, this place doesn't take card only cash. So you have to buy a drink to get cashback. The male bartender tried to pass me up for the female bartender, who was noticeably busy. So I said I'm sorry he's an asshole, and despite me defending her? This bitch gave ME an attitude. So after I get my drink and pay the lady at the door, the asshole who opens the door assumed I was trying to leave. In reality, there were a few people ahead of me and I was in the back of the line. I gave them a 2 only cause the bartender was so sweet didn't catch her name though. I read reviews that this place was dingy and roach infested and thought oh maybe they were just angry patrions. Had 3 beers and saw the bartender kill a roach in her wash off sink thought oh maybe it was a fluke. However I sat there for another 20 minutes and saw another roach on the bar. Then when she handed me my shot and beer another roach ran out towards my shot and beer. I don't do roaches and would not like roaches all over my glasses that I am drinking from. They played good music and had a nice staff but I would never return because of the roaches all over the bar. I buy bottles for a reason and this is why. My boyfriend and I decided to stop here just to put an end to our curiosity. Parking is a pain, so we decided we would treat ourselves to some fancy valet parking to make our first visit here stress free or in case we needed to leave with ease. We walked in and paid a cover charge and noticed the diverse group of people! All ages, all kids, all types, a perfect vibe outside our usual Country ballroom with some dancing groves to get "jiggy" with. The entire staff was attentive, friendly and mixed our drinks just right and as far as the visitors, ALL come here just to have a great time drama-free! I think this is a fantastic baby boomer kinda nightclub that plays the real rock and dance music that baby boomers love! The nightclub has tables with chairs! WOW ... something that the venues that cater to the younger crowd has stopped providing??? I don't get this? It has a nice dance floor that isn't sooo crowded that you can't dance on it! The bathrooms were horrible, the management kicked me out because he said that my dress was too short. There were guys in the parking lot stopping me as I came in asking for money. And when I told the bouncer at the door he did NOTHING!!!!!! I went on step further and told the manager Kevin that there were three guys in the parking lot making me feel very uncomfortable asking for money and I thought I was going to get rapped and the manager (Kevin) said it happens just walk faster into the club. read more

If you want to out and not spend a ton of money and want to enjoy yourself and dance the night away, then The Hop is the place to go! Yes, there are some crazy people that go there, but crazy people can go out and have fun too! I met my husband there on March 31, 2000. We were married in July 2000. Still married going on 15 years! My best friend also met her husband there the same night. They were married in November 2010. Still married. The fajita parties are awesome! 10 or more people and you got fajitas at 6:00 pm! The HOP is the best pick up bar/club in town - doesn't matter what location, it is still a meat market......the ladies are here & looking for dingaling! Been to both locations several times and even have ran into, seen and talked to some of the same women I met/hooked up with from the other location. The music doesn't change.....the rotation is the same, can't remember when they played something different; but that don't matter, its a meat market.....after a while, you'll know what song is coming up next - funny how you can call it at either location. The same goes for women....they are on it; if you ain't hooking it up here then you got serious issues with your game my friend. The Hop is kind of like Colonial Williamsburg. But instead of of Colonial America, Its a 100% authentic re-creation of a 1984 tourist bar you could find at the touristy end of your metro downtown area. If you like neon lights, checkered dance floor and the odd smell of desperation and hairspray in the air then this is the spot for you.. I visited the Hop in 2002 for a few weekends, and then visited it again in 2012. ABSOLUTELY nothing changed in 10 years. The drinks are overpriced, and the music is a greatest hits parade from 1978 - 1984. Now for the best part, unless you are in your 50's and looking to re-live your youth, the ONLY people who visit the Hop are Married Caucasian women looking for new dating experiences with visiting urban males, and the aforementioned Urban Males. Other than those groups, the rest of the patrons are observers to the oddest social experiment in Texas. Science should stop working on a functional time machine because I found it. My wife and I went on 09/27/2014 to celebrate my birthday. The scene and music was okay. My Waitress was Darlene Gates and she stole $135 dollars from me. I gave her my debit card to open a bar tab and I paid her cash in the form of 2 $100 dollars bills at the end of the night. She gave me back $65 in change and still charged my card. On Tuesday when I check my bank account she still charged my card, wrote in a tip and forged my signature. I called the owner "Kevin" and he refused to refund my money.The kicker is Kevin changed his story because I talked to them and then went up there. At first he said he had two copies of the credit card receipt over the phone then denied having both when I went up there. I even showed him my signature and he said I was drunk that is why it didn't look right. I've been giving my hancock for 36 years I'm always gone give the same J and R in initialing. That place is a rip off with bad customer service. Plus the free fajita dinner is a scam to get you into the door. read more
