She said straight to the back wall I'll send someone to help. When I got there I started match my flared nut to fittings a young lady walked up and asked if she could help. I said sure so I told her what I was needing and she found everything right away. I needed a fuel filter she Took Me Right to it. Then I asked for some bolts she took me there and she found them. I was a good old fashioned hardware store experience. When I got home my wife said that was fast I said yep the have young girl that know the job. SUPER GREAT EXPERIENCE. A couple of times I had to make multiple trips in one day. The staff was always professional and helpful, and almost always had what I needed, which is saying a lot since I managed an old 50-unit building that needed a lot of things for a lot of problems. Sometimes I would grab the wrong thing, and it was never a problem bringing it back and exchanging it for the right thing. Sometimes my boss would get a bit behind in paying for it all, and they would gently remind me, and the ol' slumlord would send them a check from Florida. They were cool but firm about it. It seemed to be a situation they'd been through many times before. They have homey touches here - a small tv on the counter that's always showing something. A fridge with Faygo in the can. My favorite thing about 3rd Ave Hardware is the bicycle selection. In the warmer months there's a whole row chained together on the sidewalk out front. Old ten speeds, 70s 3 speeds, cruisers, mountain bikes, etc. But, wait, there's more inside! Another row between the front door and the register and still more up and down the cramped aisles! (3rd Ave Hardware could really use a more spacious locale.) The prices won't break the bank either. I just bought my second bike from there - a green mountain bike from CCM, that Canadian company that makes hockey equipment. It's a pretty sweet bike for $100. My last one was, too. It was an old 70s 3 speed with a big comfy seat and a glistening orange paint job that just looked like candy. Too bad it got ripped off. Oh well, that's life in the D. I won't pack it in, and I'm glad 3rd Ave won't either. I'm only knocking them down one star because of their paint selection. It's lousy and overpriced. Go somewhere else for paint.

Being new to the area ,I went to the nearest place I could think of . The owner , Richard Duke , sold me a water heater that was on the sales floor . The price was great , but most of all that water heater lasted me over 18 years . The hardware is now run by Sons Kevin and Brent ,and maybe other family members that I don't know well . True , they don't have some of the things that the big guys have . I,m always satisfied when I visit Dukes . PS If you need an off the wall item , Dukes will likely have it .

Self-checkout fury as customers threaten to boycott Lowe's and go to Ace Hardware…read more Self-checkouts have been blamed for people losing their jobs and there is now an ongoing pushback against the technology being used, as one retailer found out.  Ace Hardware in Wyandotte Mi, a 2nd generation owner Jerry Jr. grew up in his father's store.  The negative experience of zero cashiers at Lowe's has me visiting Ace Hardware much more.  Ace sends me 2 coupons each month $5 off $20 a mega deal 25 percent off.  And I get points every purchase towards another free $5 many times each year.  A fast Friendly crew always ready to help.  Been a customer 35 plus years for a great reason .  Thanks Dawn the manager and Jerry the owner .  Seriously Ace corporate needs to make a commercial to promote No Self Checkouts in our stores .  @acehardware #acehardware

I can't image how many items they have in their very clean and well stocked store but I know for sure they always have what we need. The staff is always very helpful and hardware-store friendly. If I were to add up all the little Pro Hardware store paper bags my husband has brought home with a bolt or screw, I think we could plant a new tree in our yard. He loves this place! Removed the fuses and went to Ace, which is near my house. I walked in completely lost. I've never been in here before, and have no idea where anything is. This nice gentleman asked if we (wife and i) need any help. I say yes and tell him what is going on. He tested the fuses for me (I dont have the means to do that) and 1 of them was bad. He took us to the aisle and picked out the fuses we need after asking if we were replacing both fuses. This was a very pleasant experience and I know I will be back the next time I need something!
